Cool. But do you have to be 'holy' to give a 'holy' kiss or to receive one?

What exactly is a "holy" kiss? Is it on the mouth? Both cheeks? Is it the "spirit" of the kiss that makes it "holy"?

Sacrifices, temples, priests, etc. were all pagan, but the sanctuary service took on new meaning for the Jews. Most pagans' lives are so similar to ours that we wouldn't be able to tell the difference just by sight. The days of the week are pagan. Should be not use those? The conservative Quakers use numbers for the days. A person can get really carried away with all the stuff. Jesus came that we might have an abundant life, and was judged as a gross sinners by the religious leaders because he broke with their traditions and set an example for us of grace and truth.

That's what I was going to say. It's no pagan tradition at all. Just a custom developed for a certain purpose, that people kept doing long after the reason was forgotten.

Jesus probably used the Aramaic rather than Greek greeting.

There is lots more social/cheek/air kissing going on now than back

in the good old days when I was a girl. Whether that should be labelled

a holy kiss when it occurs at church I do not know.

At least in this country I wonder if it due to the mixed cultures here, in many of which the social or 3 kiss habit is strong.

The Maori of New Zealand have a traditional greeting which involves

"Mixing the breath", done by rubbing noses. Of the origins of that one

Seriously, organ music with worship started out pagan, so? I don't see anyone suggesting we get rid of our pipe organ and high-end electronics because long ago and far away temple prostitutes pleased temple-goers in private areas.

Thanks for the Friday night chuckle. Good stuff on the holy kiss! I wish we would dispense with handshakes. There are more people than you think who don't wash their hands after using the bathroom (women included). Donald Trump said he preferred the Japanese style of bowing. I agree. It's respectful, and with no contact. It drives me nuts when people think they HAVE to shake my hand, even though both arms may be carrying things.

It's very very dangerous to shake hands, what with the onset of flu and the like; it just helps to spread germs and disease. A Jehovah's Witness that I know even said it was "evil." BE VERY AFRAID... Woe to those who call "evil" good.
