pnattmbtc Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 How did Jesus Christ live? That's what is meant. Quote Christ exalted the character of God, attributing to him the praise, and giving to him the credit, of the whole purpose of his own mission on earth,--to set men right through the revelation of God.
Members abelisle Posted July 21, 2010 Members Posted July 21, 2010 My limited understanding is that in the original Hebrew, "kill" really meant "murder". From Cain on, killing was widespread and and nearly accepted culturally in blood revenge acts caused by tribal conflicts. The intentional, premeditated taking of another human's life. Just MHO. olger Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 What do you mean by kill? You mow your yard don't you? I suppose that makes you a murderer. Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Members abelisle Posted July 21, 2010 Members Posted July 21, 2010 If this was literal, how would one explain the extensive sacrificial system? Isn't that killing? But would you call it murder? God never said "Go murder an unblemished lamb." Get my point? Alex Quote We are our worst enemy - sad but true. http://abelisle.blogspot.com
Guest Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 What if somebody really needs killin? Like say, Goliath did? Quote
olger Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Exactly. People get their hair cut and that kills the hair. We should stop going to the barber. Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Members abelisle Posted July 21, 2010 Members Posted July 21, 2010 Hey guys, Instead of making "wise-guy" comments, what is your understanding of Richard's question? Alex Quote We are our worst enemy - sad but true. http://abelisle.blogspot.com
nuff sed Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 It is generally accepted that the commandment means "Thous shalt do no murder". 'nuff sed Quote

We should stop going to the barber. exactly, what, og? cutting hair doesnt kill it, obviously because it keeps growing. when its killed it would be bald, right? Quote facebook. /teresa.quintero.790
teresaq Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 What do you mean by kill? You mow your yard don't you? I suppose that makes you a murderer. again. cutting grass doesnt kill it. if it was dead it wouldnt keep growing. Quote facebook. /teresa.quintero.790
pnattmbtc Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Yes, those were ironic examples. Gotta go kill some toenails now. Quote Christ exalted the character of God, attributing to him the praise, and giving to him the credit, of the whole purpose of his own mission on earth,--to set men right through the revelation of God.
pnattmbtc Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Jesus said that if are angry at our brother we are guilty of murder, so, as with any sin, it appears that intent comes into play. Also, as with all commandments, I think we can best understand how the commandment should be kept be considering how Jesus Christ kept the commandment. Quote Christ exalted the character of God, attributing to him the praise, and giving to him the credit, of the whole purpose of his own mission on earth,--to set men right through the revelation of God.
teresaq Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 we are told that He is our example...soooo, i guess He either is, or He isnt... we should probably make up our mind about that one way or the other... Quote facebook. /teresa.quintero.790
SivartM Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Hair is not alive in the first place, neither are toenails, and mowing grass does not kill it. I think it means don't kill anyone. Someone said something about Goliath needing to be killed. Would Jesus have killed Goliath? Guest Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 It's funny you should say that, because in reality Jesus is the one who DID kill Goliath. Quote

olger Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 So we shouldn't swat flies? Why is killing wrong? Who made the word kill? Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Guest Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 ? It was Jesus who led Israel of old, and it was Jesus who made that stone fly straight and hit it's mark. Quote

pnattmbtc Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Quote: 51And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem, 52And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him. 53And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem. 54And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? 55But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. 56For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village. I don't see the word Jesus in the Old Testament. So you are adding to the Bible. What makes you think stones can fly anyway? They don't have wings! Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
SivartM Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 I don't see the word Jesus in the Old Testament. So you are adding to the Bible. That's odd, because I see the word Jesus quite a few times in the Old Testament. Especially in the book of Joshua.
