bonnie Posted November 29, 2010 Author Posted November 29, 2010 There is a fine example of an extremist with a black and white view of the world. She can't even separate religion from politics. Given that some of my political views coincide with my religious views that may be true to a large degree. Fence sitting does not sit well in either my religious views or political view. My political view is a desire for much less government intrusion.I want the government out of my religious beliefs. There are several other issues that cross paths. It would be interesting to see you define "my extremist views" Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Dr. Shane Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 It would be interesting to see you define "my extremist views" I think you have done that better than anyone else could so I think that is that. The passage from Revelation is clearly talking about religion, not politics. One can be "hot" and on fire for the Lord and not give a rip about politics. Another can be "hot" and on fire for political causes and be "lukewarm" when it comes to religion. The passage in Revelation address only the religious aspect of our lives, not the political. That said, being a moderate doesn't mean one is a fence-sitter. One can be a militant moderate. It simply means their political position is in the middle. Political positions are charted out. One can take one of several tests and see where they land in the political spectrum. I have always landed just to the right of the middle. So I am a moderate that leans conservative. Sonny Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 David Stockman on "taxing the rich" Stockman statistics: In 1985 the top 5% (the wealthiest Americans) had a net worth of 8 trillion dollars. Today that same group now has 40 trillion dollars. This group is who the Republicans want to continue the Bush tax cuts for. They have primarily made their money through what Stockman calls a "serial bubble". A "serial bubble" is created in the financial markets, not the manufacturing sector. Without our manufacturing base, which is going mainly to Asia, no real jobs are created. Hence the transfer of wealth of about 32 trillion dollars to the wealthiest Americans. Again, these are the ones that the Republicans (mainly through the lobbying of the rich) want to extend the Bush tax cuts to. Quote

Members phkrause Posted December 11, 2010 Members Posted December 11, 2010 Sonny your posts are right on. The other thing about the Bush tax cuts thats really interesting is this. If they were so great than why are we in the place we're at? If supposedly its to get back all the jobs, than how come since those tax cuts were first emplimented have we been losing jobs? The country started colasping a few years after those tax cuts which like you say were to keep the rich just getting richer. This notion that they will bring back work doesn't make any sense whatsoever, because if that were the case why have so many lost there jobs, starting back in '07. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2

bonnie Posted December 11, 2010 Author Posted December 11, 2010 The bottom line is it is not your money, not the governments money,it is that of the wealthy man that worked harder than most for it. Funny how God requires 10% from the poorest to the wealthiest. For those that have such envy for those wealthier than they, there was/is a solution. Mortgage all you own, work 16-18 hours a day at least the first few years, then you can be among the wealthy. My brother is a wealthy man,he worked for every dime, harder than most of us would be willing to work.He has been generous with others, helped those in need and paid employee's more than a fair wage. He has since closed up shop due to the economy and the government wanting more of what he makes to give to those unwilling to work as hard. Explain what portion of his income is owed to you or anyone else.He uses far less in public funds,no public assistence, children and grandchildren went to private schools, does not require what another man has worked . My husband and I were and are far from wealthy. He earned a better than average income. His usual work week was 6 days a week,12 hour days. We took the financial risk, were responsible for paying others in a timely fashion. What part of that was owed to those not willing to work as hard? Their chief method for doing this is propaganda that convinces large numbers of people, mostly through culture-war-type appeals, to vote against their own interests. I don't think anyone votes against what they believe to be against their own interests. Rich people create jobs. Poor people don't create too many jobs. There are poor people that actually understand that concept. The classes are not fixed either. The classes in America are dynamic. There are people constantly moving out of one class (poor, middle, upper, ultra-rich) and into another. So a person in the middle class aspiring to move into the upper class may see Republicans as more likely to help him or her realize that dream. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Dr. Shane Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 The bottom line is it is not your money, not the governments money, it is that of the wealthy man that worked harder than most for it. Well,,, some people work 60 hours a week and make $1,000 and other people work 40 hours a week and earn $10,000. So it isn't just as simple as work hard and you'll make lots of money. Our government has set up a free-market system that creates opportunities for entrepreneurs to prosper. Our government educates the public so that entrepreneurs have an educated workforce available to them for employees. The government plays a huge role in creating a total environment for business to prosper so it isn't as if business is creating all this wealth on their own and owe no debt to society. So it isn't just as simple as work hard and you'll make lots of money. My brother and many like him started with nothing. The government did not educate them in their chosen professions.Other than so far we live in a free market economy. No part of the government had anything to do with the sucess or failure of my husbands business. They had a lot to do with taxing us 2 ways from Sun. My brother did not even have high school diploma. He had motivation and a dsire to not workf for others. He educated himself, took his lumps when he made a mistake and constantly did better. bonnie Posted December 13, 2010 Author Posted December 13, 2010 Quote: They never attended public school? Never hired any workers that had attended public school? Never purchased anything from stores or suppliers with owners or workers that had attended public school? Am I to understand that the public school system did not profit your brother or husband at all? The taxpayer funded the public school system. The government has no money of it's own.Only that which it takes from the working citizen. In addition many of us have paid more than a fair share for this so-called public funded education plus paying that amount or more for private education. Sorry I don't revere the so called government provided education as it is US citizen funded. Going down hill drastically and far from the taxpayer's wish for a higly qualified education. {quote]Government creates an environment in which business can prosper. bonnie Posted December 13, 2010 Author Posted December 13, 2010 Government public funded schools are a miserable failure for the most part.I looked at ne dad's schooland workbooks from 3-4th grade. It would have been difficult for a 9th-10 grader today. Dr. Shane Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 When one travels the world their eyes open up and suddenly they realize how important government is. Every single person living in the US benefits from public education. Many nations do not have a free educational system and many of those that do are only six or eight grades. No American should ever complain about paying school taxes, to do so shows ignorance or ingratitude. Where there are dictatorships you will not find the motivation, desire, ambition to succeed. Wrong. There are many ambitious people that live under dictatorships. It is a mistake to think that ambition itself is enough to make a successful business. It isn't. The government must create an environment that allows a business to prosper. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity

Dr. Shane Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 The failure on our schools is primarily due to the failure in the home. Parents that are involved with their children's education do not normally have children that are failing. However, in America we have a crisis in the home and this can be seen by our children struggling in the school. Communities must support public education. Every member of society benefits from living in an educated society. The Constitution established the government. Many other nations have modeled their Constitution after ours (US). However, even under the US Constitution, the government can fail to create an environment friendly to business to create prosperity, jobs and a booming middle class. 100 years ago the nation lived under the same Constitution but young girls worked 60-hour weeks in sweat shops and men died young in coal mines leaving their heirs without an inheritance.
