Well Orange, after learning that my hubby (who was my fiance at the time) was not welcome, I stopped attending there, too, and during the disfellowship process ended up moving in with him here in the Van. area (for long and boring legal & financial reasons). Even so, as we had done while I was visiting here in our dating days, we attended our 'new' church in this area, and those who knew us were understanding and kind, and absolutely no one was judgemental about us living together. They did rejoice with us after we got married! I am so thankful that this experience did not turn my hubby off...after 7 years of not going to church, he had come back JUST before we began dating. So now, mostly the only residual from the whole thing is that I pray that it will never make any of us bitter.

The God I worship is a God of love, and I know that He loves me.

ALSO any church that makes a statement that a person is not wanted back, is wrong. UNLESS there is a threat to children or similar situation.

I know Churches that have done that, and I am so sorry you went through this.

Stan!! So good to hear from you. Actually, although I haven't updated yet, it would not be "twlipke" anymore, but "tchabot". One day I will get around to it. :-)

Actually, it is too bad that we can no longer be welcome in that particular congregation, but since moving to this area, we have visited several others besides our new home church. So, it doesn't hurt me the way it once did. Our current home congregation has been nothing but wonderful, even before we were married last year.

Off topic a bit, do you think it would be o.k. to have our infant son dedicated in the church, even if neither of us is a member? We are planning his dedication in July, but forgot to bring it up with the pastor when we met with him. We still want to raise him (as well as our two teens from my first marriage) in the "nurture and admonition of the Lord." But I was wondering today if that is an appropriate public venue.

I am out at the ABC and/Silver Hills every month; one day I will stop in and see you! Or maybe at campmeeting. Take care!

It will great to see you, you may have to reintroduce yourself to me as it has been so many years since I saw you.

It should be ok to dedicate your child to the Lord at Church even if you are not members. If there is a problem would you like me to see if you can do it at camp meeting?

This is a good day for me, thanks!

Thanks Stan...I will let you know if our pastor here has any problem with it. I'm sure it will be fine, but if it isn't, then we would love to have our little guy dedicated at campmeeting.

We'll be in touch over the next couple of months!

It is good to talk to you - I really miss doing community service work.

Thanks,

Tammy

Tammy: If you can't find a pastor to dedicate your son come on down to Florida for a vacation and I will dedicate him!!!!....and being retired I don't even have a church..........but I have enough friends who do.

Anyone who would refuse to dedicate a child for ANY reason is just on the wrong track IMO. Nuff sed.......................

By the way, Stan, our pastor is delighted to dedicate our little son. It will be a very happy occasion - and only 9 days away now. I'm thinking of being out in Abbotsford this morning or tomorrow - if so, would love to get together. :-)

Tammy, if you drop into the ABC, introduce yourself to me and let's have a little visit. I can't believe you make a trip here once a month and I don't know who you are!

My office is in the back...

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

I guess for me Jesus' own words are the final word. I can't reconcile 'go out into the highways and the byways and *compel* them to come in to the wedding feast' with a 28-item test at the door intended to keep them out...

Our obsession with deciding who's in and who's out of the treehouse club is something we should have outgrown.

And you're saying who? is obsessed.

"The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican."Luke 18:11 KJV

Most people learn that as they learn more, the less they know. An experience and walk with Christ is just that. Knowledge is not stagnant but growing and expanding.

...let all in? Are we gate keepers or greeters? Do we have open arms or a check list? Who knows the heart but God. The greater question is, are we in Gods church!!

See #458340.

"Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening]."1 Cor 13:7 AMP

And I think that includes those who framed the 28.

As to excluding those who practice certain mannerisms___.

"Jesus turned around and looked at his disciples, then reprimanded Peter. “Get away from me, Satan!” he said. “You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.”"Mark 8:33 NLT

"Then you must throw this man out and hand him over to Satan so that his sinful nature will be destroyed and he himself will be saved on the day the Lord returns."

1 Corinthians 5:5 NLT

But the question still stands, do we need to define who Jesus is?

"When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”

So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”

Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. "Matt 16:13-17 NKJV

"And we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and he is eternal life."1 John 5:20 NLT

And I view legalism far more serious than whether Christ burns people in Hell or not.

I'm not sure who you're talking about, Woody, when you say legalism is a more serious problem than whether Jesus burns people in hell. The Ten Commandments never drove me away from Jesus, Who asked me to keep them as He kept His Father's commandments. But the fear of burning in a fiery hell for eternity (a false picture of our God of Love BTW) kept me for years from freely giving my heart to Him.

It wasn't until the Word came to my attention,

"I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me", that I at last confided enough in Him to receive the promise, "He that has the Son, has Life."

"When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love."John 15:10 NLT
