Am I being deceived?

Eph. 1:9-11, and 2:4; Prov. 21:1; Ps. 110:3; Rev. 5:13

We believe that God, who is rich in mercy, who turns the hearts of the children of men as the rivers of water are turned, who works all things after the counsel of his own will, whose people shall be willing in the day of his power, will, in the dispensation of the fulness of times, gather together in one all things, in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth, even in him; and that every (intelligent) creature in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all those are in them, shall at last unite in the song of Moses and the Lamb, saying Blessing and honor, and glory, and power, be unto Him that sits upon the throne, and unto the Lamb forever and ever.

Here's what Belisle/Abelisle posted on post#363158 of the thread "EGW Critique". It shows that some believe the Urantia book is inspired.

Quote:
...I've been reading the Urantia Book ( http://www.truthbook.com )

and it both illuminates the Bible and provides extensive and more broadened cosmological info. Of course, I realized that this is a scary proposition for the average Adventist since it smells of New Age and strikes at the heart of Adventist traditional beliefs. For example, our understanding of who Melchizedek is (anticipating John's typical "Can you give us an example?")

http://www.truthbook.com/index.cfm?linkID=1340#U93_6_1

Besides the info re: Melchizedek, this book provides answers to other questions such as the age of the Earth and probes more deeply into the theodicy issues surrounding Lucifer and the "war in Heaven".

The book is available freely online and the reader can cross reference material with the Bible to make comparisons. Just like I use the SOP to gain further insight into the Bible, I use this book as illumination of things previously not understood.

Try reading it. I believe it was just as inspired as EGW was.

....

I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw the last line.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

1) Why are you dragging my personal beliefs into this conversation?

2) If your "eyes" feel so offended, why not pm me with the details instead of making this public?

3) If you've been reading my posts so carefully, you will see that I have not pushed this agenda on anyone and have left this personal belief where it was. (no further posts re:Urantia Book)

4) I have not deigned to publicly criticize your beliefs (even if I thought they were erroneous). Why are you doing this to me?

Alex (where's the tolerance we should be demonstrating as Christians for each other?)

Good Point Alex. I am sorry this happened to you.

1) Because the question of the Urantia Book came up on this thread and I remembered what you had said about it. I hadn't heard of it until you posted your views of it, and that is the first time I read any of it. After reading it, I was astonished that you said you believe it was as inspired as the writings of Ellen White.

2) My eyes are not offended at all. I was surprised, not offended. It takes a lot more than this to offend my eyes. But I do believe it's worth talking about.

3) I never suggested that you pushed this book on others, but it was obvious from your post that you would like other SDAs to read it and to be aware of it. Otherwise you would not have posts links to it and mentioned that SDAs are missing out on something good by not knowing what's in that book. You said, "Try reading it. I believe it was just as inspired as EGW was." That's a pretty high recommendation.

4) I wasn't aware that by posting your statements and views on the Urantia Book, you would feel I'm doing something wrong to you. Why would I think this, since it was you who first wrote and posted the statements? All I was doing was bringing up the positive comments you had made about the Urantia Book.

5) How am I showing intolerance for you or for others by quoting your post about the Urantia Book? I don't agree with you in your judgment about the book, but my post didn't show you intolerance. I simply stated that you apparently liked the book and believed it was "inspired."

If you post something I've posted before, I wouldn't consider it intolerance on your part, as long as you quote it accurately.

If you'd like me to delete it, I will be glad to do it, Alex. I honestly didn't think I was saying anything that you wouldn't say since they are your own words.

John,

As intelligent as you are, I find it puzzling that once again you have completely and conveniently missed the point.

Let your comment stay so that others can see how your mindset works. Let them see if they understand where I'm coming from. Obviously you don't.

Where are you coming from? Where does the belief come from that the Urantia Book is as inspired as Ellen White?

Ellen White was inspired by the Holy Spirit, the same Holy Spirit that inspired the Bible. Do you believe that the same Spirit that inspired the prophets and apostles also inspired the Urantia Book?

Check out the links about the book on post #409506.

I don't think so, but I am willing to be persuaded by reason and evidence.

What is the point that you believe I once again missed?

For me the important point here is that there is very strong evidence that the Urantia Book is deceptive and teaches lies, yet you say that you believe it was "just as inspired as Ellen G White."

I really am interested in your viewpoint of the book and why you believe it was inspired.

Can't speak for Alex, of course, but maybe that comparison was meant to place a lower value on the inspiration of EGW rather than to place a higher value on the Book of Urantia? i.e. to suggest that they're both simply devotional works that have value but need to be read in the light of Scripture? Shouldn't necessarily take your own view on EGW's inspiration as read and work it through from there...

Yes, thanks for that. You could be right. There's also the possibility the view of inspiration here is similar to the view of the poets. I don't see that as being in agreement with what the Bible teaches, though. But these are some of the reasons I am interested in what Alex thinks about it.

I just saw some of the questions about the posting on the forum and the posting on the New Perspective Web site - yes I posted both at about the same time. Is there some rule against this? Sorry if I shouldn't have posted to both sites.

Thanks for clarifying that, and no, there's no rule against doing that. I think people were confused by finding the other site and wondered whether you'd recycled something old to post here but claimed it related to last week's sermon. Good to know that's not the case.

You definitely raised some interesting points.

Interesting that Club Adventist is linked along with "Shepherds Rod" and "Davidian Seventh day Adventist" as SDA Related Links on that website.

Yes indeed-- interesting. I don't like to see that association. I hope it's not one that will stick.

Why is it so important that John be denigrated. And it seems grace is also what John depends on. His forthcoming admission of past indiscretions reveals no purposeful desire to be condescending to others.

No. I'm not guilty of any of your sins. To be very blunt, and run the risk of once again being censored by some of my fellow C/A members, you are the one who is the deceiver here. You have an obvious agenda, and it isn't a good one.

I think it's a shame that you bunch all of those together as if they all represent the Seventh day Adventist Church. Because they do NOT. And I would be careful if I were you, in the use of the name "Seventh day Adventist" because the church takes a dim view upon those who would try to use it indiscriminately. If I'm not mistaken, if the name is used without express permission and propulgates beliefs not in line with SDA standards and beliefs, you could be in legal trouble.

Ah...I see you edited your comment. Am I now not guilty in your eyes of the "sin of omission" as you had first written????

Why can't people be honest when they post something instead of being clandestine???

No argument here. From whence comes the everlasting Covenant? And how long does it last and for who is it intended?

"The rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”"Genesis 9:16 NKJV

"Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen."Hebrews 13:20,21 NKJV
