Twilight Posted November 21, 2010 Author Posted November 21, 2010 I apppreciated the comment (I think of Pam's) where some Chritian behaviour falls lower in common courtesy and respect than that of the secular-minded. I have thought hard about that many a time and wished it (and I) could be better!! That can be aggravated by a system, that does not allow someone to express their own feelings or fears Gail. Disempower a man and you create an enemy. Empower a man and you create a friend. The best wisdom is always second hand...
Administrators Gail Posted November 21, 2010 Administrators Posted November 21, 2010 The current problem, as has been accepted by many here Amelia, is that a poster cannot raise issue against a moderator and discuss that issue with the other moderators. They are excluded from the "court", judged and condemned, with no say whatsoever. This is the criticism I am raising. Mark :-) Actually, Mark, I have sat in several such discussions. A member PMs those who he would like to include in a hearing. You are more than welcome to try that avenue. Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Not true, like I said, anyone can post a PM and add as many people to it as they want. If you want other moderators in on a problem, PM it to all of them and it will be dealt with in private. It has happened in the past and worked well. <p><span style="color:#0000FF;"><span style="font-weight:bold;"><span style="font-style:italic;">"Do not use harmful words, but only helpful words, the kind that build up and provide what is needed, so that what you say will do good to those who hear you."</span></span> Eph 4:29</span><br><br><img src="http://banners.wunderground.com/weathersticker/gizmotimetemp_both/US/OR/Fairview.gif" alt="Fairview.gif"> Fairview Or</p>
Twilight Posted November 21, 2010 Author Posted November 21, 2010 If every jot and tittle were to be argued here, this board wouldn't have room for Jesus. But if we do not follow His principles, have we even invited Him in? The best wisdom is always second hand...

It has happened in the past and worked well. I was not aware that could be done. This is the first time, even on this thread that that has been suggested to me. But it does not allow a poster to invite people to the original PM the moderator raised. I tried to do that with the PM I had issue with and it was not an option. I even asked how that could be done, but received no advice or suggestion that such a thing was possible. The best wisdom is always second hand...

Twilight Posted November 21, 2010 Author Posted November 21, 2010 Anyway. I have made my point. It is up to those that run the site to take my points and consider or reject them. There is nothing else for me to say. The best wisdom is always second hand...

I think it may prove useful and hopefully effective. Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Members abelisle Posted November 21, 2010 Members Posted November 21, 2010 I have been viewing this conversation all day and as one of the moderators, I believe it's the behavior (as displayed in the rhetoric and language of the poster) that is at issue, not the content or substance of the post. Considering the fact that Adventists don't all have the same understandings and applications of doctrinal issues, we can't harangue people who don't see things our way or don't follow Adventist doctrines/beliefs as you think they should. If that were the case, this forum would become a place where the spiritual health of all posters would be constantly attacked as not being correct or represnting that of what an Adventist should be according to what another individual deems to be correct. This forum is about conversations, not confrontations. Alex (hoping I've made my point as clearly as I can?) We are our worst enemy - sad but true. Â http://abelisle.blogspot.com

Dr. Shane Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I just read through this emotional thread. My comments are, if a person doesn't like the way a moderator moderates, just don't post in that forum. Post in other forums with moderators that one doesn't have issues with. Life is too short to get all emotionally worked up about how we are treated on the internet. I have gotten into that situation before but have to admit that sometimes I just take myself (and some situations) just too serious and need to give it rest and breath deeply for a while. And a few words that I have found to be quite helpful are... "Perhaps I was wrong, I will try to do better." Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted November 22, 2010 Administrators Posted November 22, 2010 Wise words... "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)

Dr. Shane Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Natter Matters would probably be a better place but Mark may not have access to that forum. Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
Planey Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Mark Please spell out what you consider to be "Christian principles" I for one have observed this board in operation for a lot of years and have always found it to be run by Christians who behave like Christians. So I would like to know how you think it should be changed. Just out of interest, I know he was pre-Christian, but how did Moses run the show when he was in charge of the Exodus? Moderators Bravus Posted November 22, 2010 Moderators Posted November 22, 2010 Amelia suggested you could copy and paste the original PM into a new one you created, and add as many people as you like. That's technically possible but it's poor netiquette to share content that has been sent to you privately with others without permission... Truth is important
LifeHiscost Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I agree totally though Olger, there does seem a bias of opinion on this board amongst some moderators that is against anyone holding to the foundational truths of our Church. I don't know if this reasoning holds any water but maybe it's because some wish not to offend those who might stick around if their natural tendency to be offended isn't pricked, whereas the grounded Adventist might be considered mature enough not to let opposing views shake their personal convictions nor take personal offense. "Great peace have those who love Your law, And nothing causes them to stumble."Psalm 119:165 NKJV If this were an official Adventist forum, that viewpoint would seem to me to be counter productive to the pillars of the Adventist faith. (Personally I think it is anyway) OTOH when it is definitely known, or even supposed that the foundation of the forum is not anchored on the Rock, anyone would seem to have the same vantage ground (barring the recognition of the moving of the Holy Spirit when the Word is brought to bear) no matter how farfetched their personal biases might be. "But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven. “Don’t imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came not to bring peace, but a sword. ‘I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law." Matthew 10:33-35 NLT God blesses! Lift Jesus up!!
Twilight Posted November 22, 2010 Author Posted November 22, 2010 I have taken some counsel from a poster who has asked to be nameless. They have helped me to see that the way I deal with error is not correct. As this counsel was given in a true Christian spirit I can accept it. It was something I was not aware of, but once it has been revealed, I have confessed my sin to God and asked Him to cleanse me from it. I will endeavour in future, not to "attack" error. But rather reveal error by sharing the truth. I did not understand this principle and I apologise to those that I have offended through my ignorance. I thank those on here that have been true friends and offered me support and counsel in an appropriate manner. God bless, Mark The best wisdom is always second hand...
Twilight Posted November 22, 2010 Author Posted November 22, 2010 I still maintain, that we must have an open system of questioning everyones behaviour, as revealed in the gospels. A system where someone has a chance to defend themselves amongst brethren, as revealed in Math 18. I will take on board the current suggested offering given here, but would request a much more robust system be considered for moderation between posters and moderators, where moderator abuse is suspected. I apologise for breaking the rules of the board, but hope you can all understand that it was a reaction to what I perceived as an injustice, with no means of recompence for posters. The best wisdom is always second hand...
LifeHiscost Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 debate is not a Christian talent. HEAR! HEAR! Lift Jesus up!!
Moderators John317 Posted November 22, 2010 Moderators Posted November 22, 2010 You show in that post a wonderful Christian attitude, Mark. John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
