If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

I don't really understand, or agree with, the thing about "heathens." They should be able to come up with something a lot better and more appropriate than that.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

You mean, Meat or coffee or pepper is only for Babylonians :)

Do you see why we are the laughing stock of the world?

Would Jesus wear such a t-shirt?

I don't think so.

I like the "144K" one. Used to know guys who could run that far! bwink It's only 89 miles.

Alex

P.S. That's 144K not 144,000K, right?

We are our worst enemy - sad but true.

I think it's awful when nobody can recognize satire. The only reason I can think of to be offended by these t-shirts is if you actually believe that coffee, pepper, and meat are for heathens.

It's obviously a has some humor to it... not a judgment on people who use pepper or drink coffee.

So what if it's satire? Do we really need to publicly advertise that there are controversies within our church about those issues?

I have heard about coffee and meat, but when did pepper become a no no???

I certainly might be disposed to wear them ironically, preferably while partaking of said items with every evidence of enjoyment. bwink

They are obviously lampooning certain well known adventist beliefs. It would take another knowledgable sda to get the punchlines.

I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs.

Lampoon or not, punchlines or not, when a non-SDA sees it, what does s/he think of it? Another SDA exclusivism & superiority attitude.

That's a good point. I guess a better thing would be to get people in using the clean message, and then let them find out about the constant bickering, condemnation and misunderstanding of those issues later... when they bring a meat dish to a potluck, or walk into the church with a cup of coffee :)

Gerry,

I can guarantee you that it was some Andrews student made these for extra cash, and tong in cheek attitude. Do you really think that a normal Adventist would buy and wear such T-shirt? I mean honestly, how many people on this forum do you know that would do that? I can't think of a single one... I can't think of a single person in our church that would do that.

So, what's the outrage? That guy/girl obviously has a point. And a point well-taken. Why not addressing the issue, which is more serious than a T-shirt, and which t-shirt does point to?

Instead, we have "how dear he?" attitude and concern for giving the world the wrong angle on Adventism. IMO the shirt merely reflects fundamentalist and narrow-minded attitude that some Adventists carry. Mature people will see it as it is... a crack at that attitude... a caricature.

I would wear one of them, and apparently they have sold quite a few t-shirts.

"Tong in cheek" or not, I am greatly offended because it hit close to home. My son went to our schools from the first grade through high school. He would not set foot today into a SDA church because all he remembers of his SDA experience are the put downs of other religions & other Christians, things he never heard at home. So call it "tong in cheek", funny, or maybe even hilarious. But I still think it's an idea conceived in the mind of an idiot & a shirt worn by a moron, who have no sensitivity as to how offensive it is.

Gerry,

And calling people idiots and morons for making/wearing a T-shirt is not offensive at all, right? People should only be tolerant of your feelings on the issue?

I agree Gerry, I have a Catholic SIL who doesn't like the Adventist church as it is, if she see these I can only imagine what she would say.

Interesting thoughts, on both sides!

Truthfully, I don't know what I would do. I probably wouldn't wear one myself, but would chuckle in the presence of one.

I can imagine how this would be a political statement within some circles!

Sorry, but that's how angry I am. Or maybe you find it "tong and cheek" or funny?
