I guess I should be a vegetable by now but I'm not. I have been off all of that stuff for a few years now, including the liquor, and I seem to function normally. I have even learned a new trade. Am now doing machinest type work, where I set up and operate a CNC Milling machine, and have to remember all kinds of things such as mathematical formulas for arriving at the proper input data for setting up the machines.

I thank God for being there for me when it was either turn back to Him and the truth, or die. My brain may shut down on me tomorrow, but for now it's ok. Also, since I quit taking all the pain medication, I no longer have back pain.

Restoring the years that the locust ate? Praise God!!

My comments were based on these two statements. "My wife has severe memory loss believed to be a rsult of using Neurontin over a period of five years". Which appeared in your first post, and "BTW, my wife had no problem with memory until just 4-7 weeks ago" whch was in a later post.

I have no reason to argue and there would be no good come of it, but I spend my life, including many nights, weekends, and holidays, reassembling broken people. I believe that God has given us the intelligence and means to help many of these trauma victims who would not have the use of their arms or legs were it not for the work of physicians using modern medicines and techniques. That said, I have not been impressed with either Lyrica or Neurontin, and would be very concerned if one of my relatives were using them because of their effect on one's reasoning capacity. As I stated before, I have seen patients who seem to be benefitted by them, but I do believe they are not as effective as anyone wishes and that they are overused. EGW cautions us repeatedly about the dangers of drug treatments. and I think she would include these medicines in that caution.

Again, I'm sorry for your wife's problems and will pray for her healing. I rarely have a day that I don't pray with someone and try to point them to God as the One who can heal their ills.

One last comment. Many of the so-called "natural" remedies have not been well studied and the fact that their side effects have not been detailed does not mean that there are none. God has given us the true medicines - clean air, rest, exercise, abstemiousness, and a diet of fruits, nuts, grains, and vegetables are still the best remedies for most of our ailments. God bless. steve.

In terms of the memory loss, citicoline or cdp choline , a form of choline that crosses the blood brain barrier, has shown some promise in medical trials. I researched it on Pubmed http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/ for a friend whose mom is having memory problems, after being impressed to do so. Does your wife have fibromylagia? I had it a few years ago, but the pain was not severe for me, mine was mainly chronic fatigue syndrome, and I used a couple of things to help.

What you say is quite true Bonnie; I don't think tho that LHC was trying to say all modern medicine is bad. there are many good outcomes, such as you describe in your own case. I hope & pray that your next (and last) episode will be over with and get you back to a better quality of life. I think you said it was a hip thing? Anyways I will pray for you in March. I am glad all the other surgeries have been successful.

LHC also has a very legitimate concern. We live in an age where we can often (not always) ask the doctor for whatever we want. There are many horror stories in our modern medical world about carelessness, ineptitude; and very poor health principles in practice. These things have killed and crippled many people, making the injury lawyers dance with glee.

Ask,ask and then ask again when it comes to taking medication.

If you have a Dr that simply hands out pills it is time to look elsewhwere.

My husband was prescribed some pretty high powered medication. When I read the warnings and side effects the Dr brushed them aside.

I patient out of 200 hundred had from mild to severe side effects and the Dr thought that a acceptable risk.

When I asked him if he would board a plane with me and 198 other passengers knowing one of us wuld be dead when we landed would he take the trip.

That was the end of the DR patient relationship when he said No.

The patient has to be proactive as well.

Yes,it is hip surgery in March and thank you for the offer of prayer

Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this.

This is so true; I have a small pile of prescriptions, unfilled sitting on a shelf in my office. The doctors keep saying I "need" them. It's mostly for antibiotics in my case; why the last one was because I slammed a car door on my finger, thoroughly smashing the nail, and he gave me a very strong antibiotic for this. All I'll say is that it is healing up fine without it. I think if I took all the stuff prescribed to me, I would be dead.

One has to be careful though - there are some times when a medication is needed. We have to poison ourselves wisely.

BTW, I don't remember saying my wife only began memory loss after five years of taking neurontin. It was only after discovering the article that it became evidently clear that she could continue taking neurontin at the risk of continued memory loss until she was a vegetable, or continue the search for something superior that had no such evidence other than fighting over how much the bottom line meant, more than the patients' health.

God blesses!! peace

I don't mean to sound overly simplistic or presumptuous, but do you monitor your wife's fluid intake? I have seen many cases of "memory loss," that were actually just various stages of dehydration. Not drinking enough water. I have seen many cases either improved, or cured, by adopting this simple remedy, in conjunction with others

What condition is she suffering from? If she has fibromyalgia or chronic pain I have had great relief from pain using the methods suggested in tow books...Pain Free for Life, by Dr Scott Brady (go to Creation Health website) and the Mind, Body Prescription: Healing the Pain, Healing the Body by Dr John Sarno. Powerful information...Dr Brady also focuses on the spiritual dimension of healing. He is a physician who has suffered personally and is now at Florida Hosptial. Both books have helped me immensely and I have been able to deal with the pain and FM issues.

Thank you for the tip, Overaged. She drinks distilled water from a jug, making it easy to keep track of the amount of water taken in. Having read the book, "Your Bodies Many Cries for Water", by Dr. Batmanghelidj, we have both practiced reasonably good water discipline for many years.

Oh; I see, well please don't take this as me arguing away with you, but I don't know if you are aware of the potential health concerns re drinking nothing but distilled water. Most distilled water has all the minerals taken out of it, and this could be the cause of some of the problem? Our bodies really need the minerals in "regular" water. You could try bottled water that is not distilled?

What originally motivated me to explore natural processed means of addressing health problems was a book by Jean Carper, entitled "Miracle Cures". She is a medical researcher who, at least in that book, researches known benefits for health from various sources, I believe all alternative sources and proven effective through widespread use as well as opinionated promises from salesmen.

My wife has a mind of her own and I, already having lost one family by too aggressively pursuing health principles, decided even if I did have an ironclad guarantee of a proven pathway to health, letting her know gently what I felt would be helpful for her wellbeing, she needed all the space she desired for any implementation of her own.

Because we both had a strong belief in Jesus as, not only Savior but also Lord of our lives, she was easily persuaded that natural processed sources might be something to investigate by personal use.

Since my own health had minimal if any problems, I only embarked on the same course as I felt it might apply to me in some cases. She trusted my efforts enough to make choices in supplements that eventually proved to be her salvation re: eliminating asthma, her excema and fibromyalgia and most advantageous, her migraines, although after many years without a vistage of them they seem to be coming back, which is probably part of her high stress level resulting from pain. The last not too difficult to deduce because of new pain levels from complications after a botched vascular surgery.

She also was told by a physician she no longer had diabetes after a prior diagnoses of the same, a result of taking controlling supplements, and keeping her blood pressure down to

122/65 at best, although that varies as a result of higher or lower pain levels.

Re: the benefits of distilled water as opposed to tap water, it depends upon who the authority might be making their best guesstimate. After developing kidney stones from 15 years of drinking tap water and starting to distill our own water, which revealed about a tablespoon of minerals from each gallon of water distilled, I felt the lesser of two adverse affects would probably lie with the water distilled. A natural remedy was found that solved the personal immediate problem of kidney stones and after a second treatment within 3 months, there has been no re-occurrence. This after being told that once a person develops kidney stones, they would always be a problem.

And BTW, I've also been told that bottled water holds no edge over pure water from the tap. Of course, in any community supply of water there are poisons introduced to kill the bugs.

DO WE NEED THE MINERALS IN OUR TAP WATER?

"The only minerals that the body can utilize are the organic minerals. All other types of minerals are foreign substances to the body and must be eliminated.

The Choice is Clear

Dr. Allen E. Banik, M.D.

"There are no essential nutrients dissolved in tap water which humans depend on from this source for their survival or well-being. All essential nutrients can be obtained from foods and proper dietary supplements."

Water - What's In It For You?

Allen McDaniels, M.D.

". . . If you are eating a broad selection of fruits, vegetables, etc., it is extremely improbable that you would be deficient in any of the essential minerals."

Live Longer Now

John H. Leonard, J.L. Hofer, N. Pritikin

"The body's need for minerals is largely met through foods, not drinking water."

American Medical Association

"The greatest damage done by inorganic minerals - plus waxy cholesterol and salt - is to the small arteries and other blood vessels of the brain (75% water). Hardening of the arteries and calcification of blood vessels starts on the day you start taking inorganic chemicals and minerals from tap water into your bodies."

The Shocking Truth About Water

Dr. Paul Bragg, N.D.Ph.T.

"The minerals which the human body needs that are in the water are INSIGNIFICANT to those in food

. . . and anyone simply eating a varied diet - not even a balanced diet - could hardly suffer a mineral deficiency."

Dr. Henry A. Schroeder

Dartmouth Medical School

"While several of these trace elements (mineral) may be recognized as essential for human nutrition, it does not necessarily follow that human beings must obtain such elements from public water supplies."

Herbert I. Sauer, Director of Health

University of Missouri

The body uses water as a purifying agent. The kidneys excrete toxins by dissolving them in water. Distilled water is a marvelous blood purifier, helping to bring into solution and dilute any toxins in the body, as well as aid in their elimination through the kidneys.

Dr. Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the telephone, recognized the health value of distilled water, and claimed that its daily use prolonged his life. Afflicted and bed-ridden with sciatica, Dr. Bell could find no relief for the pain. The attack came just as he was investigating the deposit of salts in the human system. A well-known scientist had written a book in which he said that old age came from such deposits, and that the ills of advanced years were due to the lack of their elimination. He believed that when such deposits went to the joints, man had rheumatism. When they went to the kidneys, he had kidney trouble and stones in the urinary organs; and when they lodged in the arteries, they produced what is called hardening of the arteries. In the same way when such deposits coated the nerves, they caused sciatica. Dr. Bell wrote: "I knew that distilled water was pure. I thought that if I drank plenty of it, I could get rid of some of the salts that were covering my sciatic nerves. I tried drinking it and it worked like a charm. I have kept up my drinking of distilled water and I attribute my almost perfect health largely to it."

But God didn't make "distlled" water. He made it with minerals in it. Are you refering to minerals added to water? It seems we should not fiddle with water by distilling it - because God's original diet is what we want - isn't it? At any rate; I apologize if I am going too far off topic here - this was meant as a suggestion to help

Try drinking rain water, then. Perhaps that will give you similar benefits to distilled, if you're opposed to the artificial distilling process. Let God distill it for you naturally.

Interesting stuff Karl about distilled water. I've also heard that distilled water was not good for drinking.

The water that comes out of my tap, (Davidson County Water) is not fit for anybody to drink. It is so full of chemicals that you can smell it when it comes out of the tap. And the taste is downright disgusting. I will shower in it, but drinking it is out of the question.

Just a couple miles up the road, my sister has well water that tastes better than any water I've ever had. So I just go and get 8-10 gallons at a time, and drink that. My sister, on the other hand, won't drink the well water, and has big jugs of bottled water delivered by "Water Boy". But my brother-in-law drinks the well water.

You have a good point LHC about being too aggressive with health message principles - with many, that just does not work.

Thank you, Overaged. That's a story in itself we believe is a result of putting the final choice in God's hands after coming to a conclusion of our own. With myself it was a result of dating about 12 other very fine individuals, coming to a conclusion, then asking God for a final decision. I'll save the "rest of the story" for another thread.
