YES, YES, and depends on what there preaching about! If its about the love of Jesus. Than great, but if its about we should all go to church on Sunday? I'm afraid not.

It's okay to listen to anything IMO. Take it how you will, of course, for you know where that approach eventually led me :).

Only listening to SDA pastors, or only Christian pastors, or only anything for that matter essentially means that you've made your mind up ahead of time that group X has the only truth worth listening to.

This of course is a perfectly good approach if they actually do have the only truth worth listening to.

But if not, however, you'll never know that you've been misled. Imagine a muslim who only listens to Islamic imams. Or a Jew who only listens to lectures by Rabbis. Or a Confucian who only studies the writings of Confucius. They would live their entire life believing that they are a member of the elect few that knows the "Truth."

If you were raised SDA, and you only ever listen to SDA sermons, you're essentially relying on luck that you were born into the correct religion.

Yes. My criteria is if the sermons are deep or not. One has to use discernment in life, not only in sermons.

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Who would u have wanted to listen to if you had lived in Christ's day? :)

In my experience, some of the best sermons and music has been from non-SDA's. And some of the worst from SDA's...

But on the other hand, some of the best were also SDA and some of the worst were also non-SDA...

I think you just have to judge the content on its own merits without worrying about who is sharing it with you.

I would take it one step further and suggest that one can get some spiritual value and benefit from even unlikely "secular" sources.

"Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."

"Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal."

"I love God only as much as the person I love the least."

*Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth.

(And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)

Yes, up to a point. Ever listened to Benny Hinn? Would you listen to a whole sermon? There are Adventist preachers I can't even listen to through a whole sermon!

Depends on their music & their style. I have recordings of several non-SDA musicians.

I will listen only to those who are teaching the truths for this time.

How do you know what truth is, if you only listen to the people who are teaching what you have already decided it is?

If one does not know what "present truth" it is about time he knew especially if he professes to be a Seventh-day Adventist.

Oh, I know exactly what SDAs teach as "present truth," and you're avoiding my question entirely.

The point is that how do you know that "present truth" is actually "present truth" if you choose to only listen to sources that tell you so.

Remember the analogy about a Muslim child who only listens to people who agree with and affirm the doctrines of Islam? If he never exposes himself to other views, how will he ever know whether he's wrong or not?

What if you decided ahead of time that 9/11 was orchestrated by the U.S. government, and then only read books written by conspiracy theorists? You would have plenty of reasons to support your belief, and you'd have a firm conviction that your beliefs were deeply grounded and made far more sense than any other view. Only by looking at both sides of the story from multiple viewpoints can you make a rational and informed decision about the who/what/where/when/why of 9/11.

Do you see where I'm going with this?

What is implied is that sky does not listen to those who don't teach present truth.

I would ask simply, "How do you know if you are not listening to them?"

It is rather like those who condemn certain books as heresy without even reading them.

That's an interesting way of approaching it. I like this :)

No I don't mean this kind of attitude. By "present truth" I mean the truths that God entrusted to us as a people.

You're still avoiding the question. How do you know what truths God actually entrusted to anyone, if you only listen to one viewpoint?

I am not avoiding anything. I don't pretend to be anything or anyone. God has entrusted to His people light that was to lighten the whole earth but that light was resisted. We need to find our bearings back.

i have a friend in my church that stopped listening to JOHN MICHAEL TALBOT

when he found out he is a catholic

i have witnessed these things over and over again on other levels.

in my church once at fellowship dinner someone overheard a non SDA visitor commenting on Phillip Yancey new book

one of the PILLARS of the church turned her head from washing the dishes and announced to everyone "WE ONLY LISTEN TO BOOKS FROM PACIFIC PRESS! " and with that turne back to her dish washing

the non SDA visiter looked over with surprise and with an annoying shrug continued talking with me.

he stopped going to our church shortly after

I know why this thread exists

why this question is asked

we all have seen it

its spiritual abuse going on in this church

THE MORMONS AND JEHOVAH WITNESS have the same understanding as us regarding these things

o BTW i know we are not as punitive as those other cults with these things

thank GOD

All progress in the Spiritual Life is knowing and Loving GOD

"there is non upon earth that I desire besides YOU" PS 73:25

That perspective changes EVERYTHING-suffering and adversity are the means that makes us hungry for GOD. Disapointments will wean us away wordly occupations. Even sin(when repented of) becomes a mechanism to push us closer to HIM as we experience His Love and Forgiveness.

Okay. U R talkin' to a huge John Michael Talbot fan.

I've been to his concerts. I have a huge collection of his CDs. He is a friend on Facebook. And I am an SDA. And it has always been obvious he is a monk. Kinda hard not to know.

But I sure am blessed by him.

I can hear the cons a cryin' though. They will now be after my membership card. I can only imagine the disappointment they must have to learn that their favorite Woody has been conpromised. I can even hear a faint cry of JESUIT JESUIT.

I've never heard of the chap.. But my repertoire stopped somewhere in the '70's...

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

There are a lot of honest people in other denominations that teach conflicting doctrines that claim that same promise.

The promise remains true, no matter what the denomination. Those who search as for hidden treasure with a sincere heart will find what God wants them to find. That may not be the Seventh Day Adventist church for everyone, but it was for me.

One thing is certain in regards to truth. There is coming a time when the Sabbath issue will be revealed to the world in a most profound way. At THAT time it WILL be a testing point for all who are sincere seekers of truth, regardless of what denomination they are currently in.

The important aspect of "truth" is the you either accept it or reject it as it is revealed.
