Members phkrause Posted May 11, 2011 Members Posted May 11, 2011 The promise remains true, no matter what the denomination. Those who search as for hidden treasure with a sincere heart will find what God wants them to find. That may not be the Seventh Day Adventist church for everyone, but it was for me. One thing is certain in regards to truth. There is coming a time when the Sabbath issue will be revealed to the world in a most profound way. At THAT time it WILL be a testing point for all who are sincere seekers of truth, regardless of what denomination they are currently in. The important aspect of "truth" is the you either accept it or reject it as it is revealed. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2

This is probably the most coherent answer I've heard with respect to that question, but there are a number of reasons why I still feel it doesn't make any sense. Quote I believe in life before death
Administrators Gail Posted May 11, 2011 Administrators Posted May 11, 2011 Quote: i have a friend in my church that stopped listening to JOHN MICHAEL TALBOT Okay. U R talkin' to a huge John Michael Talbot fan. I've been to his concerts. I have a huge collection of his CDs. He is a friend on Facebook. And I am an SDA. And it has always been obvious he is a monk. Kinda hard not to know. But I sure am blessed by him. I can hear the cons a cryin' though. They will now be after my membership card. I can only imagine the disappointment they must have to learn that their favorite Woody has been conpromised. I can even hear a faint cry of JESUIT JESUIT. He's just coming out with a new CD, which I sampled on his website. Have you seen his latest look? He's grown the beard out and has gotten a lot greyer. It made me feel ancient. :) Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Administrators Gail Posted May 11, 2011 Administrators Posted May 11, 2011 Who's JOHN MICHAEL TALBOT? No harm in askin... He is a Catholic monk who has had a longtime presence in the mainstream Christian music arena. I have JMT fans amongst Adventists, amongst conservative Adventists. His name belongs in the realm of Sandi Patty, Michael Card, Wayne Watson, Amy Grant and Wintley Phipps. I think they've all be creating CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) for at least 30 years- all of them. Michael Card is (or was) some type of "brother," too, I thought, although I'm quite sure not Catholic. He has a family. Not long ago he wrote a song about the seventh-day Sabbath. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Planey Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Interestingly it is not just Seventh-day Adventists that grapple with the questions that Woody posed in the OP. Michael Card (a strongly Protestant singer/songwriter) copped a significant amount of flak from a section of his fanbase when he recorded an album (Brother to Brother) in collaboration with John Michael Talbot. So it appears such insular attitudes are not unique to us as a people. Graeme Quote Graeme____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted May 12, 2011 Administrators Posted May 12, 2011 I believe that Michael Card is Baptist. He has degrees in Biblical Studies which explains his strongly Biblical lyrics. I understand he is a Sabbath keeper. His album with John Michael Talbot is one of my favorites. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
Stan Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Michael Card was a Presbyterian minister, a Professor of Old testament Theology. AND a Sabbath-keeper, that was a number of years ago. Flyboy Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 The point is that how do you know that "present truth" is actually "present truth" if you choose to only listen to sources that tell you so. Indeed! Quote
Flyboy Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 "You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free." Jesus. Wait! Wasn't that the title for a Steven Curtis Chapman song I was humming in the railway station the other day? I don't think that Mr. Chapman is an SDA so perhaps I'll have to pull out the old Heritage Singers... now that right there, that is SDA'ism enough to make up for some time spent listening to Mr. Chapman. Balance, right? Sin and repent, then repeat. Look, as long as someone is uplifting God and we don't make that person into a demagogue then why should this be an issue? I mean, really, does every song that we listen to by a Christian artist need to affirm all of the 28 doctrines in the four minutes it takes to listen to that song? Here is another question. Is listening to non-SDA music, regardless of genre, wrong? If not, then why is listening to Christian, non-SDA, music wrong? Same goes for books. There is a tendency among us humans to want to make us like a bunch of Christmas cookies, using only one or two cookie cutter shapes. I think God is a bit bigger than that and the *least* of my worries at the Pearly Gates will be answering to a stern-faced God, looking down over his spectacles (wait, perfect eyesight, nevermind the spectacles), tugging on his long white beard (or does that make him too... mmm... er, uh, Arabic?) as I struggle to find the words to explain myself and why my MP3 player has only non-SDA Christian music on it. I don't think I could answer that question very well, I just wouldn't be prepared for it. Besides, I would be distracted by Mr. Chapman waving at me from the other side of the golden fence after God waived him through for putting praiseful (yes, I know, not a real word) songs and words on the lips of people everywhere over decades. That evil Steven, naughty, naughty boy!!! Bottom line, use our brains. Pray. Follow Him. Quote

Administrators Gail Posted May 13, 2011 Administrators Posted May 13, 2011 Well, usually anything you have to add adds a lot, even if it's in very few words! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
