jasd Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 cricket, I take your point; however, I hope that you didn't think my post was a direct to you - I know of no other way to post a non-directed post that to add the caveat QR frame: - referencing the Quick Reply frame. Sorry, if you mistook me. Anyway, it is as I've stated, I mostly interested in the content of a post. Dr. Rich Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 I don't care who you are either, jasd. I WOULD care though, IF you claimed to be a SDA Pastor and I was conversing with you under the impression that you had pastoral credentials. This is interesting. SDA pastors have credentials only because they have been through the cookie making machine at Andrews. So cricket, on this blog I have many 'conversations' with people who were not pastors but were so much better informed! Just remember, Jesus did NOT choose any 'pastor' to be among His disciples---and for good reason! Most of the SDA Pastors I know (and I way too many) are clueless as to what Jesus said and taught. Same goes for knowing who, why and how the NT was written and what was called "Scripture" by both Jesus and Paul. Quote
Gordon1 Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Jesus was not credentialed, and would likely be thrown out of Andrews today and then sued by the GC. Mrs. White said the laymen would finish the work. And why was this? The credentialed men are company employees, but God needs those who won't be bought or sold when the crisis hits. Those whom are called, not hired. The paperwork should not sway us, God is no respecter of persons. "Call no man Rabbi". Christ's men were not professionals - no paycheque, no retirement savings plan. Quote
Stan Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 That is why I wish everyone would post in their own real name and not use nick-names, screen names, pseudonyms, aliases or whatever. Singing... nuff sed Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 This is interesting. SDA pastors have credentials only because they have been through the cookie making machine at Andrews. Sorry, I didn't get to Andrews. Do they have a 'cookie-making-machine somewhere else??? Nuff sed Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted June 21, 2011 Moderators Posted June 21, 2011 There's even one way down here in the antipodes. Maybe we could have a 'verified' ID system here? Like they do on Twitter, where you can't just grab the name of a celebrity. Anyone who wants to identify as 'Pastor' anything needs to send evidence to The Stan, and only if successful can they use that epithet. I'm serious, not making fun: just because I don't see it as a problem doesn't mean I can't suggest a solution to help out those who do. (please pardon the multiple negatives - I think they all work out right!) Quote Truth is important
nuff sed Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Am I supposed to send my Ordination Certificate to Stan????????????? What nonsense...Nuff sed..... Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted June 21, 2011 Moderators Posted June 21, 2011 Look, cricket, if what you were looking for was just an enthusiastic round of high fives and amens, you should have said so. You started a discussion with a question and people expressed their opinions. Some of those opinions were different from yours. It's pretty churlish to get all huffy in those circumstances. I've tried to engage as fully as I can with your concerns, and you've just snapped back and branded it a 'waste of your time'. Sorry, but different views are what makes a discussion work at all. Quote Truth is important
cricket Posted June 21, 2011 Author Posted June 21, 2011 Re-read the original post and you'll see what I was looking for. No one answered that question. So, nevermind. Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted June 21, 2011 Moderators Posted June 21, 2011 Yes, fair enough: I have to admit that I had a slightly different recall of the original post. Thanks, too, for continuing the dialogue in a positive spirit. I did, though, suggest a mechanism for doing just what you asked. It seems to me like the only workable one, but I'd be interested to hear alternatives. If you think the issue is important enough, Nuff Sed's comment shouldn't be a deterrent. (please pardon the multiple negatives - I think they all work out right!) I like this solution. Not sure that Stan needs to see the credentials (doesn't he have access to a list of ordained ministers already--maybe not, I seriously do not know), but I do think he is aware of who is a pastor and who is not (isn't there already a "pastors only" subforum here?). I would like to see only ordained SDA pastors using the title here at Club Adventist. Quote
ClubV12 Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 cricket says, "I would like to see only ordained SDA pastors using the title here at Club Adventist." Well I think that's an excellent idea! At the very least for those that ARE using the title "Pastor": an explanation of which belief there are affiliated with in their profile would be appreciated. 'nuff sed, I think thats pretty cool your a retired SDA Pastor! Quote
Moderators lazarus Posted June 22, 2011 Moderators Posted June 22, 2011 I would like to see only ordained SDA pastors using the title here at Club Adventist. Do you mean the title "Pastor" or "SDA Pastor"? I think all Pastors should be able to use the title Pastor. Perhaps there can be some kind of indication as to what denomination that they are from i.e. SDA, RC(Roman Catholic), BT (Baptist) on their profile. There are SDA Pastors who are ordained but would not not be employed by the church because of past misdeeds or some doctrinal difference with the church. An ordination certificate would not prove that they are "kosher". Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. An ordination certificate would not prove that they are "kosher". When reading posts at an unOfficial (but clearly catering to) the Seventh-day Adventist community, the assumption that those with the title "Pastor" before their names are SDA pastors is not unreasonable. So, yes, I do think a distinction should be made--especially in the case where pastors wish to join in conversation here when they are NOT SDA pastors. For example, when Pastor Berg (a Lutheran Pastor) talks about the state of the dead, it is clear to the reader that his beliefs are NOT a reflection of the SDA church; or when Reverend Wiliams says that eating unclean meats is acceptable, it is understood that he is speaking from a Baptist background. More importantly, when a person is seeking online spiritual guidance (that goes further than Bible study or discussions on theology), he or she, if unfamiliar with regular posters here, will not end up seeking help from someone who appears to be a SDA pastor but is not. Moderators lazarus Posted June 23, 2011 Moderators Posted June 23, 2011 ... or even appears to be a member of the SDA church when clearly their ideas don't reflect the SDA views! One of the great things, for me, about CA is that there are such divergent SDA views. It reflects reality. We have never been and are not a totally homogenous group in terms of culture, politics and even theology. It's interesting that we often are sometimes horrified when we meet a fellow SDA who is not as we are. We assume a true SDA must be a Democrat or a Republican, should be in favor of guns or hate guns. We remake Adventism in our own image. CA does a wonderful job in challenging that myth. Those who can't handle that aspect of CA label folk as being not really SDA or simply seek to beat up those who are different. I say these things as some whose job is to pasteurize! cricket Posted June 23, 2011 Author Posted June 23, 2011 What exactly is in the job description for a SDA pastor? Maybe I've assumed something I shouldn't have. Can anyone who wants to be a SDA pastor just say they want to be? Quote
Moderators lazarus Posted June 23, 2011 Moderators Posted June 23, 2011 Every SDA PAstor is called to teach the Word. Not all of us teach in the same way. We all teach "the 28" but we don't all say precisely the same things about "the 28". The Gospel writers expressed the message and life of Jesus in their own way. EE Cleaveland (now deceased) and Dwight Nelson are both SDA Pastors but I would suggest that they may have different perspectives on a whole range of Issues. That's OK. cricket Posted June 23, 2011 Author Posted June 23, 2011 Well, that's what I thought from the very beginning of this thread: teach "the 28". And I still think it's important to denote which persons here, who use the title "pastor" in their online name, are ordained SDA pastors and which are pastors from a different denomination. Quote
