greentree Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Hello everyone, how do you go about keeping kosher?would you go to a mcdonalds with a friend, or do you only eat food that has been certified kosher?how do you know if the chicken stock in soup came from a chicken that was killed properly? or that the food you are eating doesnt have gelatin in it from pigs skin?I feel keeping kosher the way the orthadox jews keep it might be a bit overboard, but how do you know what is in the food that you are eating?you would be shocked by the stuff they put in foods now Quote

Plain and simple. As far as purchasing food at grocery stores, etc., the packaging will say if its kosher or not. More than likely if the food was not made by a Jewish company or an Adventist company it wont be kosher. When I say kosher kitchen I mean, there's no cooking of pork products, or any other unclean item on the same grill. And you need a Rabbi to verify this, or they have a Rabbi working for them. And for the meat packing companies, again a Rabbi is the only way to declare if its kosher or not. Hope this helps. Gordon1 Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Hi pk, let's not forget the more recent Emes "kosher" gelatin scandal which must have fooled thousands of SDA & kosher cooks over the years. Rabbis too I would guess. All it took was one test to debunk the claim. • Kosher kitchens also keep meat separate from dairy items - including separate utensils, prep. areas, and dishware. • And there's another office called Mishgeah (sp) who comes at a lower fee than a Rabbi. It can be a racket. Quote
nuff sed Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Why worry about kosher products??? All you have to do is follow the Biblical standards of what is clean or unclean and then eat the meat"WITHOUT THE BLOOD"... I do not know a single Adventist that follows this latter requirement. Nuff Sed.... Quote
Gordon1 Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 how do you know? Welcome Shiner, If it comes from a stranger, you can't know. If you raise it yourself, you will know. Or minimize risks by buying whole (unprepared) foods. Farmer's markets, organic gardens, etc. Flesh foods carry cancer and other diseases, so vegetable fare is a preferable choice. Quote

It can be a racket. That is true, my father told me some really interesting stories about the Rabbis at Zion Kosher, when he worked for the Buthchers Union. But for the most part he said the Rabbis did there job. There were the few who looked the other way when some money was offered. And yes, as far as the kosher utensils, etc., there are many Jewish web-sites that can help with that. Gordon1 Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 what kosher jello scandal?i have an old box somewhere here Grab that box & Google the company. As I recall the Emes gelatin company was in St. Charles, Illinois. But their product was the same-old slimy same=old the rest of the world devours. Nothing vegan about it. Just marketing. There were some YouTube clips from the investigative team. I think that spelled the end of the company. In essence, they were just a packaging outfit. Smoke & mirrors. No one checked under the hood. Moderators John317 Posted June 26, 2011 Moderators Posted June 26, 2011 I do know of one Adventist who does eat meat, but follows a strict, Kosher eating plan. So, there is at least one who does. In SDA Lands like Loma Linda and PUC, there are thousands of SDAs who don't eat any meat and have never even tasted a bite of it in all their lives. Yet I never heard of anyone there being concerned about whether things are "Kosher," although they wouldn't eat or drink anything that had the slightest product of a pig in it. I think it's just that they don't refer it by the word "kosher" but it amounts to the same thing. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

ClubV12 Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 "...there are thousands of SDAs who don't eat any meat and have never even tasted a bite of it in all their lives." Wow, I never realized that! My first thought was, are they OK? Are they actually healthy? Is that a good thing? It's just a new concept to me is all, it's still sinking in. Quote
Dr. Rich Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Do adventists worry about kosher foods? Why? Let's see now, there is Gods covenant (ten commandment), statutes and regulations (codes). The covenant is between God and anyone who will keep the commandments, not part of the statutes and regulations of the kingdom of Israel. When the kingdom of Israel ceased to be, so did all of those pesky statutes and regulations (codes) and therefore so went the food regulations. This was the reason why Jesus said that nothing that goes into your mouth defiles you, it is what comes out of the mouth (words). Problem is, most Adventists that I know have no clue as to what the bible really teaches because they assume EGW and company knew it all. They refuse to eat meat or pork but don't think anything is wrong with touching a dead person or a woman with her monthly cycle. Go figure? Quote
Gordon1 Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 I think John would confirm that many veg or vegan SDAs still eat poorly. Soda pop & chips are not healthy staples. Some junk food companies cater to this market, such as SDA McKee Foods. Quote
