The meaning of the appearance of the first beast of Revelation 13

...I am willing to bet that Satan will fool the whole world (everyone IN the world) except those who are now in the kingdom of the Heavens. He will do this by making them think that he is the Christ and because of Paul's writings, Christians all over the world will be fooled. This is why Satan goes to battle against those in the KOH who preach the same gosple as what Jesus gave, the gospel of the Kingdom. Since Satan will not have any national sunday law, the stupid Adventists who mistakenly believe this lie will also be fooled.

What is "the image of the beast" that all must worship or be killed? And what is the "mark" people must have in order to be able to buy and sell?

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

John317 asked:

"Do you mean the second beast? Isn't it the second beast that speaks has the horns of a lamb but speaks as a dragon?

>The second beast [false prophet] does this and will lead the cult of the first beast who is the one some call the "anti-christ"

"This is an interesting idea. Could you explain the other identifying marks of this beast in relation to Islam?"

>Notice that the false prophet [who is another fallen angelic like the first beast] has 2 horns .... like the first beast has 10 horns

>We can know that the 10 horns are 10 kings who will rule with the first beast .... the false prophet will operate through 2 human clerics [i believe of Islam .... Shiite and Sunni]

"Who then is the first beast and how do you believe Islam will fulfill the prophecy of Rev. 13: 11-18?"

>This first beast is Abaddon-Apollyon, another fallen angelic who rules 7 Middle Eastern kingdoms in the scope of the prophetic visions [5 have fallen .... 2 are scheduled for the time of the end of this present age] for Satan .... this beast will mainfest himself in the little horn of Daniel's visions [Daniel 7:7-25; 8:9-12; 8:23-25; Daniel 9:26-27 [the other prince]; 11:36-45; 12:7; 2Thessalonians 2:2-12; Revelation 9:11; 11:7; 13:1-4; 17:8-14]

>All of the Middle Eastern states that surround Israel today are the ancient territory of the first beast of Revelation .... he ruled over the Middle Eastern Empires of, neo-Babylon; Media; Persia; Alexander's Asian Holdings, and Syrio-Babylonia [a division of Alexander's Asian holdings] in the ancient past

>These states today are of the same mixed populations of the ancient post-flood Middle East with the common bonding of Islam today .... and the little horn [a future human king of the northern Middle East] is called the "Assyrian" in Micah 5:5-6

>Daniel's visions define these same inhabitants and their involvement at the coming time of the end of this present age [Psalms 83; Ezekiel 38; Daniel 2:40-44; 7:7-14]

>It is significant for the student of Bible prophecy to watch the Middle East today .... the Lord is now drawing attention to this very region because that is where He is going to return to take back the earth from gentile rule .... and rule Himself from Jerusalem [isaiah 11; Ezekiel 38; 39; Joel 2; 3; Micah 4:1-3; 5:1-15; Zechariah 14; Revelation 19:11-21; 20:1-6]

As intriguing as WHAT the Mark of the Beast will be I think it more important to know the WHY of the Mark. Why will Christians and especially SDA's (the 5 Foolish Bridesmaids of Matt. 25:1-13) accept this Mark having spent years studying what it will be and how not to get it. Many will be deceived (Matt. 24:4-5) into believing that the Mark of the Beast is really the Seal of the Living God, and will accept it GLADLY, and accuse those who don't accept it of blaspheme, and persecute them even unto death; how is this possible?

We have been told by many here on this forum that God has given His church two infallible sources of truth that make SDA's (especially) impervious to the deceptions of Satan: The Holy Bible and EGW. Yet in spite of these 'infallible' sources at least half (5 Wise and 5 Foolish) will be lost forever because they made the wrong choice thinking that it was the right one. After all, no one in their right mind and with all of the correct information (the Truth) would willingly choose Satan over God. If this is true then how 'infallible' could those sources have been?

The problem is that Satan will look like God. Satan will not physically 'look' like God, no one can do that. But he will convince otherwise sincere and honest believers that he is God BY WHAT HE SAYS.

Then I saw another beast rising out of the earth. It had two horns like THE lamb and it spoke like THE dragon. Rev. 13:11.

Satan will have people believing in him because the words he says sounds to the world just like the words of God. Satan is not going to sound like Satan, this would deceive no one not even the wicked themselves. In order to deceive the whole world Satan must sound as if he is loving and kind, inclusive and wonderful. Satan will do this by ever so slightly twisting what the True God of Heaven has said through His Son Jesus Christ, and it will fool many.

Is what you believe right now what everyone in Christendom believes to be true about God and salvation? Does is sound wonderful and wholesome, and does it sound like it is easy to accomplish. Is it a message full of hope and love, grace and redemption? Does it sound EXACTLY like the words of Jesus Christ? If you say 'yes' and you have not compared every one of those words that you now believe to be true with the words and teaching of Jesus Christ and Him alone, if you believe that what you now hold in faith is the real deal and yet it comes from someone other than the real Jesus Christ, then you are taking a chance (slim though you think it may be) of being deceived into believing a lie as if it is the truth.

That is why when the Mark of the Beast is given and received, and it is discovered by those that have willingly accepted this Mark (whatever it is) that they have been deceived in the greatest con game in history, there will be much "weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth" by those who thought they were worshipping the living God when if fact they were worshipping the dead god. These people will have firmly believed that they were receiving the 'seal of God', when if fact it was a counterfeit.

I don't know of anyone who has claimed that having the Bible and the SOP makes SDAs especially impervious to the deceptions of Satan. Ellen White herself taught that many SDAs will accept the mark of the beast and be lost. But they won't be lost because they had wrong information. The deciding factor in whether people are lost won't be a lack of information; it will be a failure to put the information into practice in their lives so that they are sanctified by the truth. Merely hearing the truth and knowing it intellectually is not what really matters. What matters is being so settled into the truth both spiritually and intellectually that one can't be moved.

Nowhere does it say that if you know what the Mark of the Beast is, you are assured of not receiving it. The only way of not receiving the Mark is by refusing it even when threatened with death. It means when that time comes, people must be willing to die rather than sin against God. Only if one is sealed with the Seal of the Living God will a person refuse to receive the Mark under those very difficult conditions of being faced with life or death.

What is the seal of the Living God, and what is the Mark of the Beast?

I agree with you here. Satan's message to the world will sound wonderful, and he will have a beautiful voice and look beautiful as well. He'll even quote the Scriptures just like he did with Christ in the Wilderness.

We can certainly agree together that the Mark of the Beast has to do with true worship of God.

What is the essential difference between those who receive the Mark and those who receive the Seal of God?

John317,

No one can know the time of the Lord's coming visitation which will begin without warning [as a thief comes] [Matthew 24:36-39; 25:13; Luke 21:35; Acts 1:7; 1Thessalonians 5:1-9]

What we can know from scripture is that a remnant part of Israel must be residing in the land and surrounded by the nation's ancient enemies .... this setting exists at this time [Psalms 2; 83; Ezekiel 36; 38; Zechariah 14]

The current unrest among the states of the Middle East surrounding Israel [Daniel 2:40-43] is very significant and this is setting the stage for the rise of Satan's beast in the little horn of Daniel's visions

His coming visitation will involve His judgment upon the earth for a period of 2550 days [Revelation 6:12-17] ..... He will not be seen by earth dwellers during this time lapse, but He will appear to the mortal survivors at the end of it [Matthew 24:29-31; 25:31-46]

There is nothing in the prophetic scriptures that stand in the way and must be fulfilled before He brings His judgment upon the earth

.... it could happen before this day is over .... or He may decide to tarry longer [Zechariah 13:8-9; Romans 11:25-36; 2Peter 3:9]

BZZZZZT--Wrong! The Father told His Son when and how and what was going to happen as we see in Rev. 1:1, and the Son gave this same information to ONLY His bond servants who will be living in the last generation. Jesus did this by sending an angel to John so that John could write it down. He trusted John to write this down because John was an eyewitness to the ministry of Jesus.

Therefore, ONLY the bondservants of Jesus Christ will know WHEN, HOW, and what is going to happen during the time of trouble. Since you don't know, it is very clear to me that you are not one of the bondservants for Christ.

Having said this, IF you choose to eat the food (spiritual truth) from the mouth of the ONE person as Jesus told us in Matt. 17:11 and 24:45, then be warned you must be preparied to give up your long held bias and prejudicial doctrines because the real truth is singular and absolute.

All prophecy in the Old Testament that pertains to Israel and the time of the end not only will not but cannot be fulfilled because Israel is no longer the Kingdom of Heaven for which God gave these prophecies. Jesus took the Kingdom away from Israel so He could give it to another people, which sealed up vision and prophecy for israel.

Any prophecy pertaining to the Kingdom of Heaven (Dan. 2:44-45), the new Kingdom which God has raised up at the time of the end does not include in any way the civil nation of Israel of today. Therefore, the 144,000 do not come out of Israel or Judaism, they come out of the 'new' Kingdom of Heaven at the time of the end. The 70x7 or 490 years prophecy of Dan.8:14 ended at the end of 33 AD (beginning in 457 BC with the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem). No part of this prophecy is or can be separated out of those 70 weeks of years, as has been suggested. When a time period in prophecy is given that timing runs concurrently.

How is Daniel 2: 40-43 related to modern Israel? Don't those verses have to do with the break up of Rome and the states of modern Europe? The fourth kingdom referred to was Rome, right? It followed the third kingdom, which was Greece.

The little horn of Daniel 7: 7,8 arises out of the fourth kingdom. Isn't this horn also spoken of in Daniel 8: 9-12?

I believe you're right that no human will be able to calculate the time of the Lord's return. God's faithful people will be able to know by the signs when Christ's coming is near,"even at the doors," but the Bible doesn't reveal the exact time.

I don't see that time period in Rev. 6: 12-17. Where do you get that period-- 2550 days?

You seem to be saying that Christ will return secretly. Am I understanding you correctly?

Does he come invisibly?

Do you believe it's possible that Christ is on earth already?

But what about the things prophecied in Rev. 13: 14 to 14: 12?

Specifically, what about the mark of the beast and the proclamation of the three angels' messages mentioned in Rev. 14: 6-11?

What is the meaning and purpose of those messages and have they been given to the whole world yet?

Finally, how about the seven last plagues referred to in Rev. 15 & 16? When will they be poured out?

John317 asked:

"Does it matter that the Jews in Israel are mostly unbelievers in the Messiah and that they are relying on the military and on the United States to keep them safe from their enemies?"

Israel is still currently in unbelief today

Both the secular and the orthodox of Israel do not recognize Jesus as the nation’s Messiah [very few are a part of the Lord’s church today; not even on the charts]

However, the Lord is still in the details and protecting the tiny nation’s survival for His purposes [not Israel’s self generated nationalism] [Jeremiah 30; Ezekiel 36]

His is preserving the nation for His coming visitation to pressure Israel and to judge the nations for the same unbelief

This should be obvious by the very fact that Israel still exists against the odds of 300 million Moslems who want the nation destroyed and the balance of the world is on the same track [Psalms 2; Ezekiel 38; 39]

It is the Lord who is using Israel to draw the world’s attention to the Middle East and the resulting down fall of all nations because of the refusal to recognize Him for who He is; they are going to find out the hard way

The coming 70th week decreed will see a remnant part of the nation turn to Him for their very survival [there will be no chance of this happening by their own efforts]

He will bring the 1/3 believing through the time of “Jacob’s trouble” [the 70th week] and the balance will be killed in unbelief at the hands of Satan’s beast and his followers [Zechariah 13:8-9]

Those who will believe of Israel and be saved will consist of the following:

1. The 144,000 who will preach the gospel of His soon coming kingdom during the 70th week [Revelation 7:1-8; 14:1-7]

2. Those who will flee the nation for the Lord’s preservation when Satan’s beast invades and occupies Israel, Jerusalem, and the temple mount at the middle of the 70th week [Zechariah 14:4-5; Matthew 24: 15-16; Revelation 12:4; 12:16]

3. And those who will still be residing in the nations during the same period [Luke 21: 20; Revelation 12:17]

The Lord will confirm His covenant with the “many” by reaching the 6 objectives for the believing remnant [Daniel 9:24-27]; He will bring them under the covenant [Jeremiah 31:31-37] and restore the kingdom to them [Micah 5; Zechariah 14; Acts 1:6; Romans 11:25-36]

John 317 asked:

His church of today is an entirely different matter, composed of a few Israelites and mostly gentiles of the nations [both those asleep in death, and those living]

The church is built upon belief in Him and His salvation, and is not defined by national identity

Those who mix Israel and the church [primarily replacement theologies] will never understand the prophetic scriptures correctly and in addition they are standing against His intents [not a good position to take]

I am a gentile by the way, but I have respect for His plan to bring His wayward nation of Israel back into the fold [this He is going to do according to His promises]

And if He cannot be relied upon to keep His Word on this matter; then we of the church are in deep trouble for sure

I will address all of your other questions on this post soon .... busy day for me today

John317 asked:

"How is Daniel 2:40-43 related to modern Israel? Don't those verses have to do with the break up of Rome and the states of modern Europe? The fourth kingdom referred to was Rome, right? It followed the third kingdom, which was Greece."

This passage of scripture is a description of the 4th kingdom of Satan's beast in the little horn at the time of the end [beginning with neo-Babylon, then Persia, then Alexander and the division of Syrio/Babylonia], .... and then the little horn's kingdom at the time of the end still pending

This beast is described in Daniel 7:7-25; 11:36-45; 12:7 and he will emerge among the mixed populations of the same Middle East where he has ruled for Satan in the ancient past [Revelation 9:11; 11:7; 13:1-4; 17:8-14]

Five of his past kingdoms have fallen .... all Middle Eastern ..... and the next two will be in the Middle East as well

Daniel 2:40-43 is the setting of his final seventh divided kingdom of iron and clay of which he will rule with ten other kings who will remain divided politically, but will confederate with him [Psalms 83; Ezekiel 38]

Rome is not in this vision at all which is a projection of the inhabitants of the Middle East who have been there since post-flood settlement times and still there today [ethnically mixed, but divided politically].... the common bonding is the religion of Islam

The beast's 5th fallen kingdom was Syrio Babylonia [significantly a Babylonian culture] [see my post Middle Eastern Culture]

Then this beast was "not" ..... during the Roman period .... and still is not at this time [he is in the abyss where he cannot interact with humanity]

But he will come out of the abyss at the beginning of the end of this present age to rule the same Middle East again [he is not human, but a fallen angelic] .... "and yet is" [Revelation 9:11; 11:7; 13:1-4; 17:8-14]

Roman rule occurred in the breach of the prophetic visions between the end of the 69th week decreed for Israel and the beginning of the 70th week still pending [between the Lord's first and second advents] .... and so did the subsequent rules of Arabia, Mongolia, Parthian, Ottoman, and British .... none of these are in the scope of the visions

>This time frame of the total period of the Lord's hour [time] of trial is extended [Daniel 12:11] .... there are 30 days added to the second 1260 days for a total of 1290 days .... all added together gives 2550 days

>The Lord will turn on the beast and his kingdom in the 30 day period and destroy it [Revelation 16:1-16; 19:11-21]

"You seem to be saying that Christ will return secretly. Am I understanding you correctly?"

"Do you believe it's possible that Christ is on earth already?"

>The Lord is omni-present and has always been in relation to His creation including the earth ..... but we cannot see Him unless He chooses to appear to us

>He can move in and out of the material world at will and He stands just on the other side of the door between the eternal and the finite .... a divide which flesh and blood cannot breach

John317 asks:

The following are brief answers to the questions:

"But what about the things prophecied in Rev. 13: 14 to 14: 12?"

>All are future and still pending events that will take place during the Lord's coming hour of trial .... during the 2550 days of His wrath and judgment upon the earth

"Specifically, what about the mark of the beast and the proclamation of the three angels' messages mentioned in Rev. 14: 6-11?"

>Those who take the mark will do so willfully wanting to identify with the beast whom they will worship as a god [Revelation 14:9-11]

>The first angel will herald the preaching of the gospel of the Lord's soon coming millennial kingdom on the earth carried by the 144,000 sealed children of Israel [Matthew 24:14]

>The second exclaims the fall [destruction] of the "great city" part of MBG which will occur early in the tribulation period just after the 144,000 are sealed for service [Revelation 8:7-12 [burning mountain/kingdom]; 17:16-18; 18:1-21]

>The third tells of the fate of those who follow and worship the beast during the tribulation period [Revelation 19:11-21; 20:11-15]

What is the meaning and purpose of those messages and have they been given to the whole world yet?

>All describe the literal meanings within the context of the verse .... and none of this has yet taken place .... all will occur during the coming tribulation period

Finally, how about the seven last plagues referred to in Rev. 15 & 16? When will they be poured out?

>These specific judgments will occur toward the end of the tribulation period and all are the Lord's turning on the kingdom of the beast and his followers bringing his 42 month [second 1260 days of the 70th week] rule to an ending .... these judgments will all take place during the additional 30 days added to the 2520 days of the 70th week and will culminate at Armageddon [Ezekiel 39; Joel 2; 3; Micah 5:5-6; Zechariah 14; Revelation 10:7; 11:15; 14:14-20; 16:1-16; 19:11-21]

I agree with you, except that I believe the 490 years ended in 34 AD.

If 27 AD is the beginning of the last week of the 70 weeks then 33 AD MUST be the 7th day/year of that last week, isn't it? 34 AD is the beginning of the next week of years and the next cycle of 49 years that are described in Lev. 25.

As far as I know the last week would look like this:

27 AD 28AD 29 AD 30 AD 31 AD 32 AD 33 AD

Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6 Day 7

Sun Mon Tues Wed Thurs Fri Sab

The day before the Spring Equinox in 33 AD is the last day of the 490 year prophecy of Dan. 9:24. Also, 30 AD as the Wednesday year would be the year in which Jesus was crucified. 33 AD is also the 49th year of the jubilee cycle. 34 AD would be the first year of the next 49 year cycle. These timings are found in Lev. 25.

If this is wrong let me know how it is wrong. Thanks.
