skyblue888 Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 There is more to be read from the 1903 General Conference Bulletin. Please be patient as I have to type word for word. ClubV12 Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 I've heard, many times now, seen numerous posts concerning your position on this Sky, but it fails to make plain and clear what you propose. What WAS the suggested order of things in 1897-1901 that was rejected? I see a lot of EGW quotes (which could be interpreted different ways), testimony of various men (for and against) concerning the matter, but no specific reference to what their talking about. How much of it is relevant today? As has been mentioned, theres a lot of water under the bridge. The issue of a single man as President seems pretty clear. Three Presidents you dismiss as once again the "devisings of men". So WHAT form of leadership IS acceptable? A dozen men? Fifteen? A rotating committee? Nothing at all? The concept of Unions or Conferences seems to be acceptable. By whom and/or how was the Conference supposed to be led? Here are several items you seem to be opposed to: By-laws. Rules and regulations. Voting, resolutions, church manual, church creed, etc etc. I don't have a clue what "etc etc" encompasses, but is sounds "evil", whatever it is. The early church convened a "General Counsel" where they discussed the "law" and issued a decree concerning their findings. Which all the churches were expected to follow. While in that General Conference they were the highest authority on earth. I think that still applies today, even with a "King" at the helm. Few, if any, have ever followed God's original and best plan for our life. The Jews wanted a King, they got one, granted it didn't work out as well as they expected, but God did not abandon them for that. No man of God left the camp in disgust over it. If the GC doesn't vote, pass resolutions, abandons a church manual, has no rules or regulations it seems that would lead to a distinct "dis-order" of things! What would you propose, specifically, SHOULD be the order of things? It's easy to say things like, "Each man should be led of God", who wouldn't agree with that? But we know from history that is an impossible position! Great men of God will not agree on any given specific point of interpretation. Uriah Smith didn't support A. Daniels, James White had his own views, these strong willed men of God with all sincerity and rightfullness of heart STILL did not agree. At some point, a decision has to be made. WHO or HOW is that supposed to happen? How did it happen in 1897? I hope you can give some concrete advice on these matters as you see them. The constant flow of thread after thread and post after post that the "sky is falling" (is that a pun?) and doom is upon us does not offer any help. It only lends itself to insecurity, questions, discourgement and division. I understand the plain and cutting testimony needs to be given, but why am I left with the idea that THIS plain testimony is not of the Spirit of God? Well mainly because it points out a LOT of error without offering any hope of a solution! Quote

Tell you what, sky: Why don't you come down here some time to Loma Linda and we can spend a few days or more studying the topic at the White Estate? I'll consider everything you say about it. teresaq Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 But following Christ's ascension, was any of the apostles elected as "president" of the Early Church? ... That is interesting. Moderators John317 Posted August 15, 2011 Moderators Posted August 15, 2011 At the White Estate? Yes, the Loma Linda Branch office. That is interesting. Jesus chose 12 and they tended to be co-equals, tho the papacy would declare differently. And that is excatly the point! He said, "Ye are all brethren." Jesus was to be the Head and we, believers, the members of His body. When we are joined to Him who is the Head, we are actuated by the Head and there cannot be any schism or division as long as we remain joined to Him who is the Head. A return to primitive faith and godliness is a return to Christ being the invisible Head of the church which is His body. This is examplified in the book of Acts. The Early church then had no such thing as a "president" and no such things as the devisings of men: men's constitutions with elections by voting, by-laws, resolutions, rules and regulations, church policy book, creed, etc etc Over time our leaders became so accustomed to these human devices that to let go of these "toys of childhood" would mean disorganization to them as though the Holy Spirit was not able to keep us organized in Christ Jesus without the use of any of these human devices. Sadly, in 1907, the Holy Spirit had no choice but to acknowledge the fact that "the self-confident management of men has resulted in putting God aside and accepting the devisings of men." T.M>481. And this has been our legacy ever since. sky Quote "The merits of His sacrifice are sufficient to present to the Father in our behalf." S.C.36.

Moderators John317 Posted August 17, 2011 Moderators Posted August 17, 2011 Yes, she sure does-- the best, I think. Along with enchaladas, tomales, tostadas and many other kinds of Mexican dishes. Sweet tomales, vegetable tomales, and turkey, chicken and beaf tomales. I rarely eat meat now, though. I recently gave her a Spanish translation of Diet and Foods and she's going through it. Please pray for her as she studies. I just let her read and don't say anything. She already stopped eating pig a long time ago, but I would really like us to have no meat in the house, yet that has to be her own choice, of course. The way she became SDA is that I simply left books and magazines around the house, and prayed. After about 3 years, she asked me if she could go to church with me. About a year later, she asked to be baptized. During that time she also invited two women to church, who soon also decided to be baptized. All that from just leaving reading material around the house and praying that Jesus would impress her heart and open her eyes. Moderators John317 Posted August 17, 2011 Moderators Posted August 17, 2011 LOL-- it's true I am partly Mex. I have felt that way since I was little because I was born just across the border from Tijuana and most of my early friends were Mexicans. I think Mexico is one of most interesting cultures in the world, but their government is for the birds. They know it too, but they are helpless to do anything about it. The government has made it illegal for the citizenry to have any weapons. The only ones with the weaspons are the criminals and the police, and neither of these care a hoot for the regular citizens.
