Igakusei Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 But I also need to point out..... ....that assumptioms, specifically wrong assumptions, can lead to wrong conclusions.... BUT just like linear geometry is based upon the assumption that the shortest distance between two points in a straight line, different perspectives can give just a valid and workable conclusions...IE geometry- the shortest distance between two points is a curved line. Used for global caluculations for saving gas in airlines/airplanes... So, as Stan says, What does it mean to love God? That's the great thing about science! It's self-correcting! Assumptions are never made without evidence, but when incorrect assumptions are made, they are eventually rooted out and replaced with more predictive and accurate assumptions. An example of this might be the assumption that celestial bodies behaved according to the principles of classical mechanics. When the principles of general relativity were discovered and proved, cosmology adapted where appropriate and our picture of the universe became a little more clear. Can you list a few currently-held assumptions that you feel aren't justified? Quote I believe in life before death

Igakusei Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 ....and religion doesn't correct itself, right? Then how do you propose that there are so many different religions? From Catholicism, we have Protestantism...each based upon different ideas upon the bible.. Quote I believe in life before death
skyblue888 Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Thanks hamilton for these great videos. Short but very inspiring and revealing of an intelligent design. Just to think that Jesus Christ is the creator of all these mysteries in nature is an amazing thought. sky Quote "The merits of His sacrifice are sufficient to present to the Father in our behalf." Robert Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 What does it mean to love God with all our heart, mind, and with all our strength? Here is the problem: In 1 Corinthians 13, Paul defines God's love when he states that “agape is not self-seeking.” If God gives me agape as a gift so that I may return this agape back to Him, then we have a problem because God Himself is no longer is agape. We make God selfish if we say He gave us the gift so we may return it back to Him. Look at 1 John 3:23: And this is his command : 1] to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, 2] and to love one another as he commanded us. To love God means to believe in His son. He is our everything. He is the source of our agape that goes out to others. He is the source of our salvation. He is the source of our life to come. We show our gratitude by placing our faith in Him. In return He gives us agape to flow to our neighbors.... Quote
Ron Amnsn Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 What does it mean to love God with all our heart, mind, and with all our strength? If you let scripture interpret scripture, you get a rather specific answer to this question, but it's not an answer that is popular among Christians. Do a search in scripture (with e-Sword or other Bible software) for the phrases like all your heart. Then read the context of each passage to learn what the people were doing, or should have been doing. When King David was passing the throne to his son Solomon he was quite specific about what it means to walk with God with all your heart. That throne which Solomon was inheriting is the same "throne of David" that Jesus inherits. David is described in scripture as a man after God's own heart, so it seems we should pay attention to what David taught. Quote

I do agree with you that the Bible might answer that question with these verses. But for me I believe it should be a more personal thing than being able to answer that with quotes from the Bible alone. And instead of using David and Solomon as an example, I would use Enoch. Administrators Gail Posted September 24, 2011 Administrators Posted September 24, 2011 Not having read the entire thread I'm only reporting what first jumped into my brain upon reading the question. To love God with ALL of those, is a lot of giving up of self and trusting God for the results, in me and around me. It is obedience in the sense of the spirit which produces also in the letter of the law. The law must be founded on love, the love which works only good to others instead of myself. Lord, help me- it's a lot larger concept than I am likely to admit! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
