Twilight II Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Doctrine means "teaching". The only time "teaching" is dangerous, is when it is not founded on the Word of God. But if that teaching is delivered through the Indwelling of the Holy Spirit and double checked through the Bible, then it is not death. It is life... Quote
Twilight II Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 My concern here is that some will attack the idea of sound "doctrine", because they immediately assume all "doctrine" is legalist in intent. Without sound "doctrine/teaching", delivered by the Holy Spirit, with the Bible as the source material, then one is in danger. An attack on good doctrine and a raising up of poor doctrine, will indeed lead to death. Poor doctrine, or poor "teaching" does indeed lead to death. But good doctrine or "teaching" leads to life. And it is not just the "neo-conservatives" that suffer from this use of teaching incorrectly. The "neo-liberals" also contribute to this spreading of death through poor doctrine quite happily... The fundamental problem has always been the same. When a man does not have the Indwelling of the Holy Spirit. When a man does not place scripture as his foundation. That man will be a source of "bad doctrine". Quote

Administrators Gail Posted October 30, 2011 Author Administrators Posted October 30, 2011 Yes, indeed! The soundest doctrine of all to me is the one that God is love. I like what was mentioned about doctrine given without being mixed with the love of God soon becomes poisonous (or something). Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
ClubV12 Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 In Sabbath school there was, of course it's Galatians, a discussion of the law vs grace. Somebody said Adventists have this "list". To which everyone agreed the list was a problem. I said, "I like the list", all eyes looking at me like, WHAT?? I continued, "And David liked the list, Oh how I love thy list". So many things on the "list" have helped me live a better healthier life. We need to pray for a LOVE of the list, not for how to keep the list. The "list" will take care of itself when we begin to see the beauty in it as David did. Quote
