Quote Galatians 3:29(29) And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Igakusei Posted November 20, 2011 Author Posted November 20, 2011 No, I'm just pointing out that using the modern usage of a specific word as the basis for something like this doesn't strike me as a smart way to do things, considering the Bible wasn't written in English. Igakusei Posted November 20, 2011 Author Posted November 20, 2011 Well, that went right over your head. I'm not arguing that the Bible doesn't contain truth, or even that it isn't the word of God. Quote I believe in life before death
ClubV12 Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 I figured out, just recently in fact, that I have to stop looking at people. In or out of the church. Jesus and the bible are what I base my acceptable life style parameters on. People will fail you every time! The deeper you dig into any persons life the uglier it gets. Quote

Start with that. We know that God's people are in all churches and if they are really studying to find truth they will find it. Why stop at ten, then? By your logic, I should be hanging out with these guys. Also note that 12tribes' little Bible study only really works with specific English translations. Why stop at Ten? Because God has only Ten Commandments. These others are just rules that were for the Jews only. This is where people just plain get mixed up or just start using excuses and say well there are more we have to keep. Sorry but God gave us just 10 not those 613. If we read the Bible correctly we find that the 10Cs were place inside the Ark of the Covenant and all the Mosiac laws were placed on the side. These were for the Jews. Dr. Shane Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Shane, talking to "those people" is exactly why I developed this problem. Sounds like you have no solution. I do have a solution: Religions are man-made, and divine command theories are textbook examples of the blind leading the blind. Putting ultimate, unquestionable authority in something written by other humans from another culture instead of deriving your values from your present reality is a recipe for disaster. You don't see a problem in multiple people using the exact same method to ascertain truth and coming to different and often contradictory conclusions? To me, it's a surefire sign that the method isn't a good one. That's the great thing about science, in contrast as a method to elucidate knowledge from the chaos around us. By only making testable, falsifiable predictions, we can verify and quantify exactly how likely something is to be false. As more and more data comes in on a question, the answer eventually becomes more and more clear and all scientists end up agreeing on the answer. This is exactly opposite from what the image in the OP demonstrates. We have one method that converges on the truth over time through rational inquiry and the careful, methodical elimination of false theories. We have another method that creates an ever-branching network of sub-groups, each claiming to be the last bastion of truth in a sick and messed-up world. There's no error-checking mechanism, because nobody is actually testing anything! Theology isn't about finding the truth, it's about making stuff up to fill in the gaps. I don't personally find the Bible a reliable moral guide, and here's one of many, many examples why. The Bible admits explicitly that there are those who have said in their heart "There is no god" but as Romans 1 points out "they are without excuse" because the invisible attributes of God ... "are clearly seen in the things that have been made". Many determined atheists confuse God's allowing for "free will" - with God's approving of their determination to remain in the dark. They further "suppose" that Christians who show no interest at all in forcing the atheist to change their view - must mean that Christians either agree with them or don't care. In fact - Christians accept the Bible teaching on free will that we find in John 1 "He is the light that coming into the world enlightens EVERY one of mankind.. .but some men love darkness rather than light". Those atheists are like a Buddhist monk in some far away land that decides to light himself on fire in pursuit of some misguided agenda. No Christian wants him to do it, and we would all pray that he would stop and listen to reason. But at the same time - we cannot force him not to do what he is bent on doing. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin."
