You realize that we nary can say anything, unless you do too?! Well; I'll go first. At first, I chose "Overaged" just as a way of joking about how I am over age 18. I didn't mean for people to get any intonations of it being intended to denote being too old... Now I am stuck with it... Quote "People [rarely] see...the bright light which is in the clouds..." Oh I will post mine, but not for a bit as it will likely inspire some theological debate and I would rather avoid that for a bit. Well, sir, now that you did make that your name you get a shot at the rocking chair. Quote

Aliensanctuary Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 EmptyCross is a rather enigmatic handle. Is the Cross Empty because of victory or disbelief? Is your avatar the burning eye of a demon or is it just a little Holy Red-Eye? M. T. Cross Posted November 29, 2011 Author Posted November 29, 2011 Empty Cross. About 11 years ago I was working on a music project with a friend. All original stuff. My part of the deal was writing lyrics. I had just watched the movie Stigmata and got thinking about the Catholic Church. It led me to thinking about how a lot of people seem to place the Cross itself in a higher place than the man who died on it. It becomes an idol. So I wrote these lyrics based on all that and just imagery Another seven candles lit here tonite As they seek consolation in an Idol Christ Then the holy man reaches down his hand And tears flood their eyes On the ancient walls Scenes tell of the fall In sacred disguise The clouds roll in Here comes the cost Face to the floor Before an Empty Cross A sword in the side left there to die But for the thorned crown and nails to dead saints they cry Fervor grows manic blood red panic Forty lashes recieve The wounds dramatic Bleeding stigmatic Crimson tears she weeps The sky grows dark Now all is lost The faithfull bow before an Empty Cross And the rising shriek Echos a hollow history seek A place to hide To late now you're crucified Your soul is tossed As the faithfull die Nailed to an Empty Cross' I liked it a lot and hence my online name became EC for a long time. I actually never use it anymore, but thats what I registered here with LOL My avatar - all I am gonna say is its a symbol of scrifice and wisdom. Quote
Overaged Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Thanks for sharing that EC! I love the connection of the "empty cross" and the "man on the cross." Your lyrics show a lot of thoughts about a lot of things. A most interesting story! Quote "People [rarely] see...the bright light which is in the clouds..." I think you'd have to read about the themes first, otherwise these may be lost behind some violent scenes of men fighting in the basement, some language, and occasional sex scenes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fight_Club_%28film%29 Quote
Administrators Gail Posted November 29, 2011 Administrators Posted November 29, 2011 Is this a testosterone film? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
fccool Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 It's a philosophical film disguised as one. That's why you'd have to read about it to know what it really represents. Much of the violence is the metaphor of the outburst to the numbness and isolation that our society has become. Quite frankly, I don't think it's celebrated in the film, as you'd find out in the end... it's just a necessary medium to make a bold statement about condition of manhood, and virtual absence and evaporation of qualities that define men. My friend wrote a book recently about the crisis of manhood in developed world. This movie is reminiscent about many points that he makes. It basically notes that there are whole nations of creative, smart, capable individuals who trade their lives for a job, to support a lifestyle of constant buying of stuff that they don't need or want, which becomes their life and purpose. Violence in this movie is a metaphorical outburst to this societal condition and norm. Quote
