Moderators lazarus Posted January 5, 2012 Moderators Posted January 5, 2012 I don't know what the fuss is about. Many GOPer's have said bad things about black people. I actually think is part of proving your bone fides as a republican. Even Hermain Cain did that. Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. Dr. Shane Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I don't think there are any more racists in the Republican Party than there are in the Democrat Party. Racism is still alive and well and it is found everywhere from the banks on Wall Street to the barrio in Chicago and even churches in East LA. It is not confined to any race, religious background, economic class or sexual identity. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity

I actually think is part of proving your bone fides as a republican. Even Hermain Cain did that. Have you checked the background of the Klu-Klux clan, those who fought for and against civil rights? Have you listened to Obama, his grandmother"Just a typical white woman"? The issue isn't whether Paul assumes"some responsibility" It is is denial of knowing anything about it while there are specific statements on record being said by Paul. Stand behind what you say instead of blaming others Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman
Woody Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I know it is popular to call out the 'race' card. But personally I don't witness racism. Of course I live in Cowboy country. I live on a ranch. But, I believe that racism is mostly dead. What I see much more of is reverse racism. Being black or any other race than white - is a huge advantage in this country. One that I personally don't qualify. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators Bravus Posted January 5, 2012 Moderators Posted January 5, 2012 The racism is not the issue bonnie is raising here, it's the dishonesty. As ever, it's not the offence that gets you, it's the cover-up. Quote Truth is important
Dr. Shane Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I believe that racism is mostly dead. Racism is alive and well. There are a lot of people that hate others if they have a different skin color and talk funny. My point is simply that racism is not limited to any one race. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... I know there is hate all over the world. But I personally don't see hate based on the color of ones skin. The hate is there because hate is there. But I don't see it as racism. Is it "racism" to hate gay marriage? You see those that want to hate will find ANY excuse. If you have red hair they will hate that. If you have a crooked nose - they will use that as an excuse to demonstrate hate. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

Woody Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Quote: Of course it does. Are you going to avoid the question? To say that there are some races that are exempt from hate - is simply ignorance. So, I see no value in disclosing my race. My race is no different in this regard than any other. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Dr. Shane Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 When someone makes a bold statement like "I personally don't see hate based on the color of ones skin." then their skin color and place where they live becomes very relevant. A white person living in a middle-class community and surrounded by mostly Christian friends and family is not likely to see much racism. A white person living in East LA and working a criminal detention facility or drug rehab center probably wouldn't make such a bold statement. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Moderators lazarus Posted January 6, 2012 Moderators Posted January 6, 2012 I don't think there are any more racists in the Republican Party than there are in the Democrat Party. In American politics, the Southern strategy refers to the Republican Party strategy of winning elections in Southern states by exploiting anti-African American racism and fears of lawlessness among Southern white voters and appealing to fears of growing federal power in social and economic matters (generally lumped under the concept of states rights). Though the "Solid South" had been a longtime Democratic Party stronghold due to the Democratic Party's defense of slavery prior to the American Civil War and segregation for a century thereafter, many white Southern Democrats stopped supporting the party following the civil rights plank of the Democratic campaign in 1948 (triggering the Dixicrats), the African-American Civil Rights Movement, the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Voting Rights Act of 1965, and desegregation. The GOP built much of the its late 20th Century strategy in the South on racism. Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. Einstein
Moderators lazarus Posted January 6, 2012 Moderators Posted January 6, 2012 Have you checked the background of the Klu-Klux clan, those who fought for and against civil rights? Sure. They crossed over to your party Bonnie. Moderators lazarus Posted January 6, 2012 Moderators Posted January 6, 2012 My point is simply that racism is not limited to any one race. I'm not even saying its limited to one party I'm just saying that I'm not surprised that a GOP would have had these racist comments in his background. The GOP is growing out of its racism but it will take time. Gingrich and Santorium have growing pains even now. Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. Einstein
Dr. Shane Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 The problem with that theory is that there was not a massive shift from Democrats to Republicans in the South until the 1990s during the Clinton Administration. Which is the same time Rick Perry switched from being Democrat to Republican. There may have been some shift back in the '50s and 60's but remember it was the national Republican Party that got LBJ's civil right's reforms passed and Richard Nixon built on top of LBJ's reforms so the GOP would not have been some safe haven for white, racist Democrats to flee to. The shift in the '90s was so significant that US Senate seats and governorships actually went to the GOP. At that time Bob Dole stated in his prime-time speech at the GOP convention that if there were any racists in the room they needed to find the door. The fact is racism is all over. There are black people that hate white people. They are racists. There are black people that hate Hispanics. They are racists. There are Asians that hate blacks. They are racists. There are Hispanics that hate Asians. They are racists. I live in an area that is about 90% Hispanic. I have applied to jobs in the public sector and had people far less qualified than me get hired for them. The only explanation is that my skin is the wrong color. One position was for a public school district and the position's requirements stated that it required a college degree. Not only do I have a college degree, I have the degree that prepares a person for the job I was applying for. I was interviewed by a committee of three people. All of them were Hispanics. The interview went great. I clearly demonstrated my knowledge of the job and ability to do it. They didn't hire me. They hired someone who never went to college and did not even have the work background the job required. He was Hispanic. It is very likely that all three of the people that interviewed me are Democrats. So don't try and tell me that racists live in the Republican Party. There are racists in both political parties and all walks of life. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity

Moderators Bravus Posted January 6, 2012 Moderators Posted January 6, 2012 It's worth making the point again, I think (though the discussion of race is interesting and worthwhile and I'm learning a lot), that the real problem for Paul on this issue is one of honesty as much as race. As bonnie's post showed, he defended what he wrote in the 90s, then denied he wrote it in the 00s. Honesty is a prime requisite for president. Quote Truth is important

There's also the little problem of who he accepts money from. When you have verbal and financial support from David Duke,Aryan groups and others like that doesn't it make anyone wonder?
