Patrick Lawrence Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Hi I am trying to find a conservative Adventist church in Ohio. I need one close to the area that the person I have been doing Bible studies with online lives in. The first church I looked at was this one and it is clearly not conservative. http://www.newarksdachurch.org/article.php?id=38 But the judging by the reading room on the Reynoldsburg churchs site they do seem to be conservative. Or at least more likely to be. http://reynoldsburg22.adventistchurchconnect.org/article.php?id=14 Any way I would really like some help if some one lives in the area. Quote http://UROBI.com/
Woody Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 I would highly recommend any of Pastor Hughes churches. Pastor Hughes is a Facebook friend of mine. I've been to his Zanesville church. Pastor Hughes put on an evangelistic series in Zanesville that I attended. SUPER Good. Pure Gospel Truth for these end days. I think that Pastor Hughes might also be the pastor in Coshocton but am not sure. Anyways - again - I would recommend any of those churches. Zanesville, Newark and Coshocton. He actually uses a little more Ellen White than I am comfortable with. But with that one - it depends upon the beholder. Over all I would highly recommend him. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Woody Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Oh and I might add - Pastor Hughes has authored a special edition of Steps to Christ for bikers. He has a big ministry that he is active in to reach bikers. Man - if your pal is a biker - you've just hit the jackpot. http://www.biblebiker.com/ He heads Adventist Motorcycle Ministries. His nic name is Bible Biker. He is member of the Christian Motorcycle Association. And he hold a special Campmeeting for Motorcyle enthusiaists. He's one busy but God fearing man. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
olger Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 I am in Ohio, Patrick. Try Centerville, and Piqua for starters. Hughes is a friend of mine, but.... Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Woody Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 I am in Ohio, Patrick. Try Centerville, and Piqua for starters. Hughes is a friend of mine, but.... Well I agree with Olger and his but. But then - who doesn't have buts. No pastor is perfect. If I were to finish Olger's sentence - I would say: ... but he uses too much Ellen White. But if your friend likes Ellen White and is a biker - hey - what more could you ask for? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

Patrick Lawrence Posted January 7, 2012 Author Posted January 7, 2012 If I do not agree with Pastor Hughes (He is the one that wrote the page I linked to in the first post.) why would I want to send people to one of his churches. I specifically do not want to send them to his church. I would like to find a conservative Adventist church that believes tradtional Adventist doctrines. Think Joe Crews. Compare what Joe Crews says to the page linked to in the first post. http://www.amazingfacts.org/free-stuff/o...ithout-sinning? Now all that being said. I only linked to his page to help explain what I am looking for. I have no desire to discuss Pastor Hughes. I am sure he is a very nice man. But I just want to find a conservative church where I can send some one. Quote http://UROBI.com/
Kountzer Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 The adventist church & the sabbath, or on the sabbath, especially, was and is my refuge from all the polarization that is in the world. You can't turn on the radio or news television without being bombarded with the whole liberal vs conservative mumbo jumbo. Now I got to hear that mess in the adventist church as well? Eww. Not good. The only time I hear about lib vs con churches is at this forum, fortunately. You 'hear' or experience all sorts of crazi stuff here. That's why I don't think this is a good representation of what the sda church is about. I'm thinking the real saints are settled into the truth, and are somewhere studying and praying and doing, in the name of the Lord. Quote I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs. Frederick Douglass
Patrick Lawrence Posted January 7, 2012 Author Posted January 7, 2012 This is not about some abstract ideas but about salvational issues. I agree 100% that we should move past non-salvationol disagreements to all work together. But there are some basic salvational things we cant look past. Any way choosing the church to recommend to a precious soul is very important. And I am going to do my best to find the right one with Gods help. Quote http://UROBI.com/
Windsor Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 I attend a conservative church in another state because it is the closest one by far. I consider myself conservative but would like a church where there are some non senior citizens and people don't throw a riot if you use a CD to accompany special music (as so many so-called conservative churches are). Be careful you don't send your friend to a church like that just because it's conservative because it might turn him off from any church. I would prefer a middle of the road church. Quote Remember Adventists Online?

Gibs Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 P. Lawrence, You won't find a true conservative Joe Crews type of SDA church with the denominational name SDA that I know of. Ohio is a well taken over state with the way liberal salvation theology and all this with the emerging church thing. You need to find a home church that broke out many years back and there is many in Ohio. I live close to the Ohio conference and if you were close to Croton OH. there is one there that are trinitarians. Most that are broken off are not trinitarian. All can be in His Church Spiritually anyway so it's no problem to do so from their home. Fellowship is great with true believers but were error is it is no good. I am a home church member here from my own home and many out around me are. We don't meet anywhere in a building as the expense is too great. We did for many years but to keep up the rent, insurance, electric and heat etc. was too steep. My nearest fellow true believer is 7 miles away and the next furthest is 11 miles. That is another drawback, the cost of commute to get together. I could walk to the nearest denomination SDA church and can't walk far but the service is nothing. Just absolutely nothing. Better not to go and have error tried to be pounded in. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Quote A Freeman In Jesus Christ
Woody Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 I can't find a Croton OH on my Rand McNally atlas - But I don't believe that anyone needs to go there even if it does exist. I personally have found that the Ohio Conference has some of the most Godly leaders on earth. They preach the present truth needed for these end days. For sure I would not leave God's remnant church for some off shoots. However I do agree that it might be hard to find a Joe Crews type SDA church most ANYwhere. And I praise God for that. Praise God we have moved beyond a works oriented faith. No disrespect to the dead - but Truth is progressive and I am glad we have progressed beyond the Crews beliefs. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted January 7, 2012 Administrators Posted January 7, 2012 Just judging by the website of the Reynoldsburg Church, I would say they are not a very active congregation. Most of what is on their website is automatic feed from the website server, with virtually nothing of local interest or activity since 2006. The calendar shows just a couple automatically scheduled things. While they may be busy with other things and don't have someone locally in charge of the website, the appearance is that they have nothing going on. And it doesn't give you much to go on to know anything about them. I wouldn't read too much into what they put up in their reading room. Why don't you just be honest with the person you are studying with online and tell them that there are a variety of Adventist churches, ranging from quite conservative to quite progressive in their style of worship and theological emphasis. And style of worship and theological emphasis do not always correlate. Suggest they go to http://www.adventistdirectory.org/ and use the "Find a Church" function themselves to locate nearby churches and start visiting. Don't try to direct them to a church you would be comfortable with, but let them find one where they would be comfortable. Choosing a church is a very personal thing. And last but not least, trust the Holy Spirit to guide them to where they can find what they are truly seeking and need. The Holy Spirit knows best, far better than any of us could possibly know. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
Gibs Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Croton is just south of Centerburg which is on us rt 36 & 37. The church Woody, today needs all Joe Crews types in the ministry then it would be nearer on track. She is badly off course and will not find the port. She has fell back into Momma for the most part. The Sabbath will go next would not be a surprise anymore and I'm hearing that some are in places are now keeping Sunday. I don't know any names but the liberality we are one is the reason. We are a separate people or should be if we hold to Christ and the true foundation. Anyway I know from all your posts we are not on the same page and never can be so I must leave you to your view as that is each our free privelege that He, Jesus gives to all. Jer 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein. Jer 6:17 Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. He is a big EGW supporter and follows her ideas. But you are privileged to have your opinion. Have you met or heard or spoken to Pastor Hughes or did you just come to this conclusion with out directly talking to him? I would be interested in hearing directly about what is not conservative about Pastor Hughes. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Ger, if Patrick started his search for a church nearby the person he is studying with and started with Newark Church, I'm thinking Piqua is a bit far afield, likely more than 100 miles away, on the other side of Columbus. That's a long way to go to church. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." Woody Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Quote: Croton is just south of Centerburg which is on us rt 36 & 37. Oh. You mean Hartford. Why didn't you just say so. lol !!! And last but not least - As a lifetime SDA - I find no problem with going to church on Sunday. And recently - I've attended church on Sunday more than Saturday. I just fail to see any fault in that. People have a variety of reasons of which we may not be privey to. It's best not to judge. And in response to Olger and his misguided suggestions - let me say that Pastor Hughes presents an unalterable commitment to the Adventist message and to the Lord who brought it. And another addendum for Olger's comments. I have personally found that Ohio has some of the best leadership in North America and the GC knows this. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. olger Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Most of the pastors in Ohio have been pruned down to leave only the supporters of the president and the Emerging church nonsense. There are a few holdouts however and still many faithful people clinging to their God and their watercress. We have a serious leadership problem in Ohio and the General Conference knows it, and the BRI knows it. Change is coming to Ohio "Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining" (1 John 2:8). rejoice always Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."

Gibs Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Olger, Speaking of watercress, I have a great place to get all and more than I can use, it's 11 miles down the bike trail from me and I take a big plastic bag and fill it and bring it home on the rear carrier rack. A few others get some but most goes to waste. Great stuff man, I love it. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Quote A Freeman In Jesus Christ
olger Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Thanks ! I'll take one large bag to go. Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Patrick Lawrence Posted January 7, 2012 Author Posted January 7, 2012 Ok just replied to all the comments in one post to keep things short. Hope it is not to confusing. Thanks Olger but Piqua seems to be about 100 miles away from where they are. Thanks Gibs but I would rather not send them to a home church. I do not believe in breaking away from the Adventist church but fixing it. Like Walter Veith says we should get superglue and stick our selves in the church. Woody clearly we do not agree. Since saying Joe Crews and traditonal views were works based is just wrong. But we are free to not agree I still wish you the best in life Tom talked to some on in the area and they told me a little about the church. At least as far as what they believe. But even if they are not active that what new members can help with. Any way might jsut be they do not have a good webmaster. Oh I am being 100% honest with them. I am explaining about the search I am doing. Matter of fact they are helping me some. And we are praying about where God wants them to go. But I will not just recommend any church when I know for sure error is being pushed. Woody Pastor Hughes wrote an entire page on the church website about his views on Sanctification. His view is not inline with traditional Adventist views. But it is inline with your view and the current ohio conferences view (speaking generally). This is the core salvational issue I am talking about. And this is the only part of his beliefs I am commenting on. So as I said we are free to not agree and I just wish you the best in life. And also wish him the best. But it is just clear we do not agree Olger it does seem Ohio has a problem as I research it more. But good thing it is all in Gods hands Quote http://UROBI.com/
Gibs Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Patrick Lawrence, I wish you luck on fixing it and I too find Walter Veith one of the best. I worked on trying to fix it for years but no headway has been made and the battle was furious some years back and still goes on but the real warriors are few now. Stay in the Truth, Follow Him Only regardless of where it seems to lead to. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
