Woody Pastor Hughes wrote an entire page on the church website about his views on Sanctification. His view is not inline with traditional Adventist views.

Well I understand that you are opposed to certain chuches. Not sure why. But I do know from personal experience rather than what is on the web - that Pastor Hughes presents the good old time Gospel and Present Truth for these last days. His views are of the Gospel and our prophet. That is all he uses - scripture and the Spirit of Prophecy.

So, I fail to see your reasoning since you have not presented anything that you feel is wrong about what Pastor Hughes preaches. You've not even spoken to the man. I have.

Please provide a quote about Sanctification where you disagree with our brother and pastor Hughes. A loyal and faithful SDA pastor.

I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.” Galatians 2:20, 21. God’s standard is the same for all mankind, including the last days.

One righteousness! One plan of salvation! One Savior!

Christ Our Righteousness!!!

Sounds like the Gospel to me, the 1888 Message we were told needed to be accepted before Christ returned...

Behold what manner of love the Father hath given unto us.

Yes woody I did present what I thought was wrong. His view on sanctification according to his own words on the site. And judging by your statement that he teaches something not in line with Joe Crews etc etc. So it seems he would be a great pastor for you since he agrees with your views. Not so much for me since I do not agree with you :)

what words would that be? I would like to see what specific words you feel are not SDA.

Patrick - with you being a Crews follower - let me ask you the following questions:

Do you believe that the wearing of shorts is a sin?

Do you believe that mixed swimming is a sin?

Do you believe that it is a sin for a man to wear long hair as Jesus did?

Do you believe it is a sin for a woman to wear a pant suit?

Do you believe it is a sin to wear patterned, pastel-hued shirts?

Do you believe is is a sin to wear scented grooming aids?

Do you believe it is a sin to use face creams and colognes?

Do you believe it is a sin to use hair nets?

Do you believe it is a sin to wear "cosmetics"?

Do you believe it is a sin to wear a wedding ring?

Do you believe that if we don't follow the health laws we are doomed to Hell?

Do you believe that "sporadic spurts of obedience are not enough" and will "Unfit you for the kingdom of God"?

Do you believe that control of appetite is the victory that every child of Adam must claim in order to be saved?

Do you believe that drinking tea and coffee is a sin?

Do you believe that even if all the caffeine has been removed that drinking coffee is still a sin?

Do you believe that drinking cola drinks is a sin?

Do you believe that it is a sin to wear a wig?

Do you believe that it is a sin to dye your hair?

Do you believe that it is a sin to eat at a restaurant on Sabbath?

Do you believe that it is a sin to name your children Kim, Chris, Leslie, Gene, Lee or Dana?

Well this is getting tiresome. But if you have the courage to just say NO to any of these - then please explain to me the focus of your friend Joe Crews. For I've been kind here in my thoughts towards him. He is much more radical than just saying the above are sins.

If someone wants the reference for all this - each item is in the small book - Creeping Compromise. It's a tiny book. So I am sure he just touched the surface. I should point out that many of these beliefs are totally contrary to our church's beliefs and the church has even stated so. Just look at the issue of the wedding ring. This is contrary to what our church has declared. The others are just SO obvious there can be no debate.

So, if one is a Seventh day Adventist - I would hope they stand by what the church believes.

May we be one so that the world may be won.

Do you believe that the wearing of shorts is a sin?

Oh man - I am sinning right now if so!

Do you believe that mixed swimming is a sin?

Now thats just plain silly, of course it is - I mean they are in water! Swimming! You could get cooties or sumpin! bwink

Do you believe that it is a sin for a man to wear long hair as Jesus did?

Oh ohs........ I'm in trouble again

Do you believe it is a sin for a woman to wear a pant suit?

Well, it certainly makes it less fun for teenage boys to stand under the stairs she is climbing......

Do you believe it is a sin to wear patterned, pastel-hued shirts?

What kind and colour of pants are you wearing?

Do you believe is is a sin to wear scented grooming aids?

As long as its not Old Spice you should be ok

Do you believe it is a sin to use face creams and colognes?

Of course! Leave those pores open and let your acne blossom!

Do you believe it is a sin to use hair nets?

I used to know this kid, and SDA kid and his parents were really old school adventists. He used to like to eat hair. So maybe there is something to this whole hairnet thing. Me - not so much so.

Do you believe it is a sin to wear "cosmetics"?

Only if you are in a band named KISS

On second thought those dudes are pretty ugly without it too...

Do you believe it is a sin to wear a wedding ring?

Do you believe that if we don't follow the health laws we are doomed to Hell?

Given some of the bland food I have eaten due to those health laws, I thought I was already there. Course I ate some really tasty stuff as well.

Do you believe that "sporadic spurts of obedience are not enough" and will "Unfit you for the kingdom of God"?

Show me one 100% obedient person - I'll show you someone in a coma

Do you believe that control of appetite is the victory that every child of Adam must claim in order to be saved?

Well, they will be healthier, but is that saying that overweight people are gonna be lost? Huh?

Do you believe that drinking tea and coffee is a sin?

Only if you put hazlenut flavoured creamer in it.

Do you believe that even if all the caffeine has been removed that drinking coffee is still a sin?

Yes. Absolutely.

Do you believe that drinking cola drinks is a sin?

Only if its Pepsi. Actually I was taught that. I can still tell you right were I was when I had my first can of Coke. It was 20 miles past the Hope slide in BC, heading east. In a big red pick up with 4 people squished into it.

Do you believe that it is a sin to wear a wig?

How fake does it look?

Do you believe that it is a sin to dye your hair?

How old are you and what colout are you dying it?

Do you believe that it is a sin to eat at a restaurant on Sabbath?

I guess I can kinda see where an SDA might have a stance on that. Ya gots to eat though.

Do you believe that it is a sin to name your children Kim, Chris, Leslie, Gene, Lee or Dana?

WHAT?!?! Wow I am lost on that one. Huh?

Woody can you not see you and your friends on this thread are exactly the reason why I want to be careful what church I send this person to. :) I have not tried to start a debate. I only asked a general Adventist forum for some help. So why in the world would I want to send this person into a church where their beliefs will be attacked, torn down and ridiculed?

Pat......... dude that is really hard! This is some good ole' boy Christianity I tell ya.

If I am that friend you refer to - no worries cause:

A. I have no passport so I can not attend a church in Ohio

B. I won't go to an Adventist church mostly because of really judgemental and holier than thou people.

Good questions.

I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs.

Historic SDA's find all prophecy to be history. They are usually called "conservative" but cling to the "old paths".

Jer 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

Those I do believe are more of Republican leaning and most are of that persuasion.

A lot of them are trinitarian too. They are hard against the ones that see there is only one God whose name is indicated by YHWH. It either YHWH King of Israel or YHWH of Hosts. The latter being The Father in the Body prepared, Jesus Christ.

One new testament verse for that is, 2Co 5:19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

Or you could go back to the "Shema", the proclamation,

De 6:4 ¶ Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

LORD is YHWH AND GOD is ELOHIYM.

The roots of Adventism run deep and the reform never got completed but a lot more so than any other protestant reform.

1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
