Samie Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 My thread on the 7 Last Plagues was locked. I am starting a new one. Matthew 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) In Matt 24:15 - 31 (see also Mark 13:14-27), the Lord correlated the setting up of the abomination of desolation with the succession of events that will culminate in His 2nd Coming. He said that the great tribulation will start when the abomination of desolation is set up; at the end of the great tribulation (the period of occurrence of which God will shorten or no one remains alive), unusual celestial phenomena will occur which will be capped by His 2nd Coming. It is then important to know what the abomination of desolation is, so that when its setting up has occurred then we are sure His 2nd Coming is just around the bend. So what is the abomination of desolation? The Lord has said that it was spoken of by Daniel the prophet. So, to Daniel we will go. Daniel 12:11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. Notice that the abomination of desolation gets set up 1290 days after the daily sacrifice is taken away. Another worth noticing are the first two verses of this chapter that likewise speaks of the great tribulation referred to by the Lord in Matt 24 relative to His 2nd Coming: KJV Daniel 12:1, 2 1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. 2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. No doubt, the explaining angel was narrating to Daniel events related to the 2nd Coming. Reason why Christ (the man in linen of Dan 12:6, 7) had referred to the book of Daniel when He correlated the setting up of the abomination of desolation with His 2nd Coming. The word "abomination" in Daniel is from the Hebrew "shiqquts". As used in the Old Testament, "shiqquts" refers to idols or graven images representing pagan deities (see 1 Kings 11:5,7; 2 Kings 23:13). God is against idolatry, and His people therefore are against idols. So whatever it is that is pro-idolatry is against God and His people. So what abomination - idol or image - will make desolation against the people of God? Does the Bible speak about any idol or image which will make desolation against the people of God in the last days? Yes, there is one such idol or image: the image of the beast in Rev 13! Revelation 13:15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. This is the only image in the whole Bible which will make desolation to the people of God, the setting of up of which will trigger a series of events culminating in the 2nd Coming of the Lord. Any comments, forum mates? Quote
12tribes Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 The word sacrifice was added by the translators and should not be there and reading the verse Daniel 12:11 says that the 1290 days happens after the abomination is set up. The abomination is not set up after the 1290 days Quote Galatians 3:29(29) And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Gibs Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 The best clue to what it is, is here in this verse, Mr 13:14 ¶ But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains: 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 12tribes Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Abomination is idol worship 1 Kings 11:5-7 (5) For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. (6) And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father. (7) Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon. So the abomination of desolation in the holy place in Matt 24:15 is idol worship in the holy place Quote Galatians 3:29(29) And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Lysimachus Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 There are at least a total 3 Abominations of Desolations spoken in scripture. 1. The one when the Roman Armies implanted their insignia on the Holy Ground outside of Jerusalem. This was a "type" pointing forward to a much bigger Abomination of Desolation, which leads to our next point: 2. The Papacy sitting in the Christian Church during the Dark Ages. 3. The Papacy revived. Quote ~Lysimachus (Marcos S.) Gibs Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 It looks like to me that the ultimate abomination and that is what this one appears to be in Mk 13:14 is when Satan comes forth and stands up claiming to be Jesus Christ and he will have a very glorious appearance and deceives almost the whole world that he is. Only the elect can see that he is an imposter personating the Great One to come whose presence will devour the body Satan has taken to dwell in. An imposter standing up personating The Holy One is the abomination of abominations. We will see won't we? And will it be long? Just a few more years but these last few will get progressively worse starting sometime soon in this year 2012. I am not a prophet but a discerner of His Prophecy. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Gibs Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Dear Bros. I will paste a few verses of Mark but read the rest of the chapter please and discover this is way past the dark ages but at the consumation, please. Mr 13:14 ¶ But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains: Mr 13:15 And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house: Mr 13:16 And let him that is in the field not turn back again for to take up his garment. Mr 13:17 But woe to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! Mr 13:18 And pray ye that your flight be not in the winter. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Lysimachus Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 When you read Matthew 24:1-42, it seems that it applies to both the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple there, and events that precede the second coming of Christ. Bert Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 When you read Matthew 24:1-42, it seems that it applies to both the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple there, as well as events that precede the second coming of Christ. In other words, it seems to have a dual application. The 'abomination of desolation' is a reference to the destruction of the temple by the Romans in 70 A.D. Not only was the temple desecrated and totally destroyed after being sacked, but the city of Jerusalem was destroyed and its people killed, leaving the city in desolation. You will also notice that verse 16 urges the people of Judea to flee to the mountains. Also, in verse 20 it infers that hopefully their flight would not be on the sabbath day. However, when you continue in Chapter 24, there are endtime events that are mentioned as well. That is why I feel that Matthew 24 provides for a dual application of two catastrophic events...the destruction of Jerusalem and the events immediately preceding the second coming of Christ. Quote
Lysimachus Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Quote: "The disciples had been filled with awe and wonder at Christ's prediction of the overthrow of the temple, and they desired to understand more fully the meaning of His words. Wealth, labor, and architectural skill had for more than forty years been freely expended to enhance its splendors. Herod the Great had lavished upon it both Roman wealth and Jewish treasure, and even the emperor of the world had enriched it with his gifts. Massive blocks of white marble, of almost fabulous size, forwarded from Rome for this purpose, formed a part of its structure; and to these the disciples had called the attention of their Master, saying: "See what manner of stones and what buildings are here!" Mark 13:1. To these words, Jesus made the solemn and startling reply: "Verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down." Matthew 24:2. With the overthrow of Jerusalem the disciples associated the events of Christ's personal coming in temporal glory to take the throne of universal empire, to punish the impenitent Jews, and to break from off the nation the Roman yoke. The Lord had told them that He would come the second time. Hence at the mention of judgments upon Jerusalem, their minds reverted to that coming; and as they were gathered about the Saviour upon the Mount of Olives, they asked: "When shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of Thy coming, and of the end of the world?" Verse 3. The FUTURE WAS MERCIFULLY VEILED FROM THE DISCIPLES. HAD THEY AT THAT TIME FULLY COMPREHENDED THE TWO AWFUL FACTS--THE REDEEMER'S SUFFERING AND DEATH, AND THE DESTRUCTION OF THEIR CITY AND TEMPLE--THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN OVERWHELMED WITH HORROR. Christ presented before them an outline of the prominent events to take place before the close of time. His words were NOT THEN FULLY UNDERSTOOD; but their meaning was to be unfolded as His people should need the instruction therein given. The prophecy which He uttered was TWOFOLD IN ITS MEANING; WHILE FORESHADOWING THE DESTRUCTION OF JERUSALEM, IT PREFIGURED ALSO THE TERRORS OF THE LAST GREAT DAY" (The Great Controversy, pp. 24,25) Matthew 24 has a TWO-FOLD Fulfillment: Matthew 24:1-3 "Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple. 2 And Jesus said to them,“Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down. 3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying,“ Tell us [QUESTION # 1]: WHEN WILL THESE THINGS BE?[QUESTION # 2] And WHAT WILL THE SIGN OF YOUR COMING, AND THE END OF THE AGE?" "The prophecy which He uttered was TWOFOLD in its meaning; while foreshadowing the destruction of Jerusalem, it PREFIGURED also the terrors of the last great day." {GC 25.3} "From the fall of Jerusalem the thoughts of Jesus passed to a wider judgment. In the destruction of the impenitent city He saw a SYMBOL of the final destruction to come upon the world." (The Desire of Ages, p. 743) "Jesus did not answer His disciples by taking up separately the destruction of Jerusalem and the great day of His coming. He MINGLED the description of these two events. Had He opened to His disciples future events as He beheld them, they would have been unable to endure the sight. In mercy to them He BLENDED the description of the two great crises, leaving the disciples to study out the meaning for themselves. When He referred to the destruction of Jerusalem, His prophetic words reached beyond that event to the final conflagration in that day when the Lord shall rise out of His place to punish the world for their iniquity, when the earth shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain. This ENTIRE DISCOURSE was given, not for the disciples only, but for those who should live in the last scenes of this earth's history." (The Desire of Ages, p. 628) "Christ saw in Jerusalem a SYMBOL of the world hardened in unbelief and rebellion, and hastening on to meet the retributive judgments of God." (The Great Controversy, p. 22) "Jesus, looking down to the last generation, saw the world involved in a deception SIMILAR to that which caused the destruction of Jerusalem. The great sin of the Jews was their rejection of Christ; the great sin of the Christian world would be their rejection of the law of God, the foundation of His government in heaven and earth." (The Great Controversy, p. 22) "The Saviour's prophecy concerning the visitation of judgments upon Jerusalem is to have ANOTHER FULFILLMENT, of which that terrible desolation was but a FAINT SHADOW. In the fate of the chosen city we may behold the doom of a world that has rejected God's mercy and trampled upon His law." (The Great Controversy, p. 36) "The whole of the twenty-fourth chapter of Matthew is a prophecy concerning the events to precede this event, and the destruction of Jerusalem is used to TYPIFY the last great destruction of the world by fire." (Last Day Events, p. 18) "While these prophecies received a PARTIAL FULFILLMENT at the destruction of Jerusalem, they have a MORE DIRECT APPLICATION to the last days." (Testimonies for the Church, volume 5, p. 753) "The ruin of Jerusalem was a SYMBOL of the final ruin that shall overwhelm the world. The prophecies that received a PARTIAL FULFILLMENT in the overthrow of Jerusalem have a MORE DIRECT APPLICATION to the last days. We are now standing on the threshold of great and solemn events. A crisis is before us, such as the world has never witnessed." (Thoughts from the Mount of BlessinG, pp. 120, 121) "The warnings that Christ gave to Jerusalem were not to end with them. The judgments upon Jerusalem were a SYMBOL of the events of Christ's coming to judgment in the last day, when before Him shall be gathered all nations. "He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other." {TM 232.2} Quote ~Lysimachus (Marcos S.) Gibs Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 We are not concerned now with the application back in Jesus time but the now and the text clearly makes it the prominent fulfillment at the comsumation. I can see no doubt about it. It sure isn't talking about the pope more likely Satan doing it over there where the world is all on fire about, the worldly Jerusalem. The great consequence being satan taking over the world as it's Great King is what I see of it at present. Keep working on it, I look at all views. None have more fun than us people! 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. If Hitler were still alive today, you'd probably be defending him and telling us "you're Hitler bashing and Nazi bashing!" It's only because Hitler is dead and so is the Nazi regime that you have no problem over it. But seeing the Papacy is still alive today, it's not permitted to point the stern finger at this system as being the Man of Sin in 2 Thessalonians 2. A man who sits between the cherubim, claiming to be God. Pure blasphemy! I shriek in horror to think that you show any sympathy toward such a Satanic system. Catholic people? Different story. God loves them, and many will be saved. But to show any sympathy whatsoever for the religious system is to inadvertently wonder after the Beast. Gibs Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I believe when Satan is allowed to come forth and personate Jesus Christ that he is finished with his whore. That is the way of being a whore, the time comes she is cast out. Satan's goal is to be the King here and he knows this is the only place it can be done and he stole it from Adam and thinks it is His Right but Jesus Christ will soon come and then It will be seen whose Right It Is. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Showing himself that he is God - Paul did not say that antichrist will walk into the temple and say: ‘I am God’. That would be too obvious. He claims such honors and such reverence as the true God would if he should appear in human form. He will show himself that he is God; by taking upon himself the titles of God, by usurping a power over the consciences and souls of men; by dispensing with the laws of God and man; by assuming to himself all power in heaven and in earth; by taking upon himself the power to open and shut the gates of heaven at pleasure; and by pardoning sin, which none but God can do; this is the Antichrist's mouth speaking blasphemies mentioned in Rev 13:5. “The Pope is of so great dignity and so exalted that he is not a mere man, but as it were God, and the vicar of God...The Pope by reason of the excellence of his supreme dignity is called bishop of bishops... He is likewise bishop of the universal church. He is likewise the divine monarch and supreme emperor and king of kings. Hence the Pope is crowned with a Triple Crown, as being king of heaven, and of the earth and the lower regions. .” Extract from Ferraris Ecclesiastical Encyclopedia RC printed in Rome 1890 Quote
