Stan Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Most people who bring up the subject, in my experience, of The Abomination of Desolation have been our Jehovah's Witness friends. Seems to be a big thing with them. BobRyan Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 What if the AoD turns out to be a weapon of mass destruction? Then the Christian Jews in Jerusalem would have stayed in the city - and died along with the rest of the Jews in 70 AD - waiting for a weapon of mass destruction to show up. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." He may claim to be Gods emmisary here on earth, but to be actually be God? Thats nonsense. He's claiming to be God through his actions. It's his position, as high priest, being called "Holy Father" (a name attributed only to God Himself), that he claims to be God on earth. It doesn't say he openly speaks it, but he definitely thinks it, and you can see it through his actions. We have dozens of quotes where the Pope claims to be God on earth though. Aliensanctuary Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Although I may be way outnumbered in Adventistland, I suspect the Abomination of Desolation will occur in the future, during the Last Days. Abomination: something horrible, evil Desolation: complete destruction Quote The Parable of the Lamb and the Pigpen https://www.createspace.com/3401451
Lysimachus Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Although I may be way outnumbered in Adventistland, I suspect the Abomination of Desolation will occur in the future, during the Last Days. Abomination: something horrible, evil Desolation: complete destruction I think most Adventists are in agreement that the final Abomination of Desolation is in the future. Like I mentioned, the official position of Adventism is that there are at least 3-4 Abominations of Desolations that take place throughout history. There's one more to go. The first was during the siege of Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar in 589 B.C. The second was during the siege of Jerusalem by Titus in 70 A.D. The third was the installment of the Papacy in the Christian Church. The fourth will be the final restoration of the Papacy just before Jesus comes. Remember, the issue is "abomination", and it is the abomination that "causes" "desolation". Desolation always follows abomination, whether it be shortly after or much later. Yes the abomination of desolation is not restricted to one particular event 1 Kings 11:5-7 (5) For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. (6) And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father. (7) Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon. Because of this abomination the kingdom was taken from Solomon 1 Kings 11:9-12 (9) And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice, (10) And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he kept not that which the LORD commanded. (11) Wherefore the LORD said unto Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant. (12) Notwithstanding in thy days I will not do it for David thy father's sake: but I will rend it out of the hand of thy son. Daniel 11:31 (31) And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate. In this verse it is referred to as the abomination that makes desolate, that is what happened to Solomon, his abomination made desolate. Quote Galatians 3:29(29) And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Gibs Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 This is the text that reveals the one left to be concerned about now. Read on down through the few verses and it reveals it is the consumation. Mr 13:14 ¶ But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains: Mr 13:15 And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house: Mr 13:16 And let him that is in the field not turn back again for to take up his garment. Mr 13:17 But woe to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! Mr 13:18 And pray ye that your flight be not in the winter. Mr 13:19 For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be. Mr 13:20 And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
