Administrators Gail Posted January 10, 2012 Author Administrators Posted January 10, 2012 My boss had a revelation once when he realised that his wife did not want him to solve her problem, she just wanted him to listen to her as she vocalised it. So he gave her understanding instead of trying to "fix it" for her. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Moderators Bravus Posted January 10, 2012 Moderators Posted January 10, 2012 Perhaps, but I still think that the within-group differences are larger than the between-group differences with men and women, and it's far better to treat each individual as an individual rather than a representative of a group. Sure, it's good to be reminded that not everyone is like us, but stereotypes are too simple to capture the complexity of people. Quote Truth is important
Administrators Naomi Posted January 11, 2012 Administrators Posted January 11, 2012 I agree Bravus. Sometimes the non-serious teasing can be taken the wrong way. For a while you heard a lot about 'being in touch with your female side' but I don't recall much being said about 'being in touch with your male side'. Perhaps we should focus on being in touch with our emotions and character. Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God

I'm thinking you're on to something here, Brav. It wasn't a shrink. It was obsessive/compulsive romance author Melvin Udall played by Jack Nicholson in the movie, "As Good as it Gets." cardw Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 In my practice the majority of my clients are women. What I have noticed is that often what the men in their lives think is the most important is obvious to them and they are farther down the conversation and the men simply can't keep up. What creates much of the difficulty in their lives is because they don't speak up. They need more male energy. What many men don't realize is that many women have much superior verbal skills and they [the men] just can't keep up. It's often the choice of the women to protect the egos of their men that prevent them from speaking more directly. I have observed that many men are pretty immature. I include myself in that observation. I have learned to listen and learn from how women navigate the social world. There is an obvious intelligence at work there. It's very complicated and if you approach from a problem solving mind set without checking in with empathy, you are going to get lost. There is an order to how women interact because they seem to understand each other quite well. If you can get your ego out of the way men might learn something. Quote Rich http://tiny.cc/CM2j8
