Stan Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 We should not go out of our way to make hard thrusts at the Catholics. Quote: Thrusts at the Catholics—It is true that we are commanded to “cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and show My people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.” Isaiah 58:1. This message must be given, but while it must be given, we should be careful not to thrust and crowd and condemn those who have not the light that we have. We should not go out of our way to make hard thrusts at the Catholics. Among the Catholics there are many who are most conscientious Christians, and who walk in all the light that shines upon them, and God will work in their behalf. Those who have had great privileges and opportunities, and who have failed to improve their physical, mental, and moral powers, but who have lived to please themselves, and have refused to bear their responsibility, are in greater danger and in greater condemnation before God than those who are in error upon doctrinal points, yet who seek to live to do good to others. Do not censure others; do not condemn them. {CW 63.2} I wish those on facebook would share this quote from the above Quote: We should not go out of our way to make hard thrusts at the Catholics. with their facebook friends who are doing what EGW and Common Sense tell us NOT TO DO. I have no tolerance for that kind of unChristian behaviour. May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Administrators Naomi Posted February 19, 2012 Administrators Posted February 19, 2012 I have suggested that this quote should be put on the back of church bulletins! If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God
skyblue888 Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Here is another very similar: "God has jewels in all the churches, and it is not for us to make sweeping denunciation of the professed religious world, but in humility and love, present the truth as it is in Jesus. Let men see piety and devotion. Let them behold Christlikeness of character, and they will be drawn to the truth." E.G. White Bible Commentary, Vol.4,1184. "The merits of His sacrifice are sufficient to present to the Father in our behalf." S.C.36.

Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted February 19, 2012 Administrators Posted February 19, 2012 Strangely those that take the "cry aloud and spare not" injunction of Isaiah 58:1 as their calling to bang other folks on the head fail to regard the actual message that follows it in the 58th chapter of Isaiah. It is a call to compassion for one another, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked freeing the oppressed, housing the homeless, etc. The call to cry aloud and spare not was a condemnation of those of Gods people that did quite the opposite of showing compassion. "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)

Stan Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 The truth is this, some folks like to hammer Catholics to get some power in their life. They are bullies. Gordon1 Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Bullies naturally resort to force Stan. Its part of the fallen condition. From observation, use of force is a marker (indicator) of a bully, unless required by law to preserve order. Even Christ dared not rail against Satan (Jude 9), but still He warned of Satan's methods & deception. The only lasting power for our lives comes from Christ, and this is self control. Meekness, or strength under control.
Gordon1 Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Here's the premise Stan - bullying (intolerance & persecution) is inherent to fallen man - part of his/her nature. We should expect it, as we expect a pig to roll in mud or a dog to chase a rabbit. Therefore, everyone is naturally a bully if not converted (nature changed) by Christ. Open bullying (intolerance & persecution) is kept under wraps by some, due to social mores & restraints. But all such niceties will be swept away when the mark of the beast is imposed. There will only be two classes as open persecution breaks forth. The use of force to impose will is not God's character, but Satan's.
Gordon1 Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Or as you put it, "some folks like to hammer"
Lysimachus Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Some very sobering statements Stan, thanks for sharing! I wonder if this statement applies in the "exact" same way concerning those who know the truth but have exerted every effort to oppose it vehemently? Who have gone out on a limb to destroy the truths they once believed, and create nasty websites mocking Adventists? Do we just continue to speak real soft to them, without any sharp rebuke ever? Do we just take it sitting down? They will take advantage of it I tell you, and walk all over you--and then they entrap the honest passerby seeking for truth. It's a fine line no doubt. There was a time when Jesus called the Pharisees vipers, and their father the devil. And he overturned the merchandise in the temple. So we must discern the nature and position of the hearts of our audience. ~Lysimachus (Marcos S.) Stan Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 am thinking that we need to speak with them in the same way we would want them to speak to us. I like why EGW said, we should be pointing out what is right, not what is wrong. Hard to go wrong with that. Being confrontational, even if the name of the Saviour has not worked well with them, or when people do it to us. Administrators Gail Posted February 25, 2012 Administrators Posted February 25, 2012 Jesus said- Quote: John 12:32And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. I suppose it might depend on what outcome we are aiming for as to how the delivery is made. Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
miz3 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 That is a hard line for the SDA Church .org to follow given the strong and severe statements made by Ellen White herself in the "unchanged earliest versions of the Great Controversy". It seems to me that Ellen White does not heed her own wisdom. For once Lysimachus counter point has some validity. The messages SDA Church .org have preached for over 160 years concerning the RCC/Pope have been anything but "gentle, diplomatic, etc. etc." Since SDA Church .org apply (erroneously in my view) the beast and the mark of the beast to the RCC/Pope and the extremely strong language of the Bible in Revelation concerning said beast and what they are and what their outcome will be, is it any wonder why the SDA Faithful have strong hateful and even fearful feelings and expressions toward the RCC/Pope? SDa Church .org "chickens may be coming home to roost".
Moderators Kevin H Posted February 26, 2012 Moderators Posted February 26, 2012 Miz3, you are right Mrs. White did not heed her own wisdom. She kept thinking about what she saw in vision, kept studying, kept growing, complained about how the church was hesatant to grow, and felt that there was more to learn after she died. She held a more liberal view of her inspiration than say Stephen Haskell held and while they remained close friends, both were frustrated that they could not convince each other of their understanding as to how inspiration worked. The church has tended to follow Haskell's views.

Gibs Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 It is a different story down here at the end the aggression will not be so much as was in early years but to the fallen others. Read this one from EGW, " I saw that the two-horned beast had a dragon's mouth, and that his power was in his head, and that the decree would go out of his mouth. Then I saw the Mother of Harlots; that the mother was not the daughters, but separate and distinct from them. She has had her day, and it is past, and her daughters, the Protestant sects, were the next to come on the stage and act out the same mind that the mother had when she persecuted the saints. I saw that as the mother has been declining in power, the daughters had been growing, and soon they will exercise the power once exercised by the mother." {SpM 1.4} Quite revealing. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
