Moderators james423 Posted May 7, 2005 Moderators Posted May 7, 2005 When we studied the psychology we needed to know to become teachers, one fact stood out (at least in my mind) - there will be in any group only about a dozen who will respond. Most of the time, my Sabbath School class responds just that way with about a dozen discussing and responding. Once in a great while the others join in. Most of the time in that class - could be anywhere from 20 to 60 members - we hash things out. I've never had anyone get confrontational and stamp out of the class yet. If you respect others' opinions, they usually don't get that upset. Yes, we have had people from various extreme groups in the class. One of my fellow teachers (we rotate) almost had someone leave the class because the teacher was going to read from the Good News Bible, but that's the only time I remember. The pattern I've mentioned and the lack of no-holds-barred confrontations holds true for all the other churches where I have taught the lesson. Quote James Brenneman
darlene Posted May 7, 2005 Posted May 7, 2005 And james423, that is the way it should be. As a follower of Christ we are to respect one another and we can always agree to disagree. Quote

Guest Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 Like I said before....you had to be there.. As usual..a person reads words and uses these as clues to compile a picture and emotional framework... Psychological projection usually enteres into the process. Whatever.... Quote
Guest Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 Is there any minute measure of confrontation in disagreeing??? Is there any validity to the saying that there are only a few letters difference between disagreeing and disapproval? Quote

Anyone consider this post.....CONFRONTATIONAL? Quote
darlene Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 The degree of difference is in the attitude. If one has a argumentive spirit or an attitude of 'I am right and you are wrong' then there will be all kinds confrontation. If one has an attitude of 'we are here to learn what the Lord has to say to us' then they have a 'teachable spirit' and I believe that is what God would want us to have. After all, He is the Divine teacher and we are His children. Quote
Guest Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 Matt 15 "6": And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. "7": Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, "8": This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. "9": But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. "10": And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand: "11": Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. "12": Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying? "13": But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. "14": Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch. Quote
Administrators Gail Posted May 9, 2005 Administrators Posted May 9, 2005 Hmmm Looks like we are seeing some confrontation here! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
darlene Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 Yes, we're making the Bible say what we want it to say..... Quote
Guest Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 SO WHAT ELSE IS NEW...?????? Acts 15 "35": Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also. "36": And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do. "37": And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark. "38": But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work. "39": And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus; "40": And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God. "41": And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches. Quote
Guest Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 Most people who go to churches are dumbed down by inept , incompetent pastors who are dispensers of religious dope that I refer to as NFDMTTS. Quote
