Administrators Gail Posted February 27, 2012 Administrators Posted February 27, 2012 I usually just say hi. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Woody Posted February 27, 2012 Author Posted February 27, 2012 Hi Gail. Saying hi is not an option. Try again. :) Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Woody Posted February 27, 2012 Author Posted February 27, 2012 You people are being MOST difficult. This is a poll. YOu have to choose one or the other. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Members phkrause Posted February 28, 2012 Members Posted February 28, 2012 I picked the frontal Hug for lack of a hug option. The kiss on the cheeks with a hug is actually what I would vote for. The kiss on the lips for greeting those we don't know, is definitely a no no, but for family is a great option. Most of the others is fine for greetings on the street, to friends, and even hugs and kisses on the cheeks is ok, but we're talking about church are we not? Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Woody Posted February 28, 2012 Author Posted February 28, 2012 Do you treat strangers at church any differently than strangers on the street? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Members phkrause Posted February 28, 2012 Members Posted February 28, 2012 Do you treat strangers at church any differently than strangers on the street? Since you are replying to yourself, I'm gonna guess your asking me? No not at all, I greet strangers the same at church or on the street. It will most liking be a hello to all I meet that I don't know! I was under the impression we were talking about church members that we know? Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Liz Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I'm a hugger, and I've been known to hug complete strangers in the grocery checkout line. And even though I had that one mishap at church a couple of years ago, I still hug people there too. Although, I've never hugged that particular lady again. <blush> Quote For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Mat. 16:26Please, support the JDRF and help find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. Please, support the March of Dimes.
olger Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I like the handshake/hug combo That would be a...HugShake. Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Moderators Bravus Posted February 28, 2012 Moderators Posted February 28, 2012 You need an 'I'm Bravus' option... 'cos I want to add another option, which is 'it depends'. As I said in the hug thread, it's about reading people's body language and giving them what they need, not what I need. All of these options might be appropriate in some circumstances and wildly inappropriate in others. Quote Truth is important

Administrators Naomi Posted February 28, 2012 Administrators Posted February 28, 2012 I placed my vote for the "side hug", but had there been a "Bravus Option", it would have been my choice. Determining which is appropriate for the person or situation is not really complicated, you just know who is a shake-hug, cheek-kiss hug, side-hug ... {oh dear I am getting so confused} Maybe in the future I'll just do a High-5 Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God
HaPPySmiLe Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I am a Big-ol-bear-Hugger! Most people I encouter, dont mind my hugs. but if I feel the person on the receiving side doesnt want a hug, I will generally give a warm handshake and smile. I generally Love everybody and wish to pass it along!!! Quote Smiling's contagious~ try it

Moderators Jeannieb43 Posted February 28, 2012 Moderators Posted February 28, 2012 My reply would be: It depends on who the person is! Some dear friends whom I haven't seen for ages, I give a full hug! Other casual friends I just shake hands and say Hello. Then some new friends whom I don't know well and who may be needing encouragement I might give a sideways hug around the shoulders. So. It just depends.... Woody Posted February 28, 2012 Author Posted February 28, 2012 I should have been more specific when posting this. How about replacing the word "people" with "Woody". Would that change your outlook any? Now be gentle. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
whatisthis Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 When I first came back into the church I could hardly stand the hugs! I'd been through so much stuff! (I know, get out the little violins, but) I had just been thru' enough that it was automatic, and I couldn't really help wincing. But now, after time to feel safe, (years) I'm a chief hugger! But I do try to remember the way I felt then and not get offended and think someone is necessarily "rigid" if they don't want a hug right then! Quote more later

Trouble is not everyone is sensitive to those of us who are not always comfortable with hugs. Some people have physical issues that make a hug painful at times if people are not careful. Probably best to get in the habit of asking. I've had people ask me and have refused more than one. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Moderators LynnDel Posted February 28, 2012 Moderators Posted February 28, 2012 Out of all those choices, I'd go for the hug, but "full frontal" sounds a little too intense. Voting for any one of the listed options would make a liar out of me. Quote LD

Moderators LynnDel Posted February 28, 2012 Moderators Posted February 28, 2012 Full frontal implies frontal body contact. Most church hugs are more frontal than anything else, but only involve one arm, minimal shoulder contact, bodies leaning forward so that nothing else touches, and not enough time to begin counting seconds.
