miz3 Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 The relationship in the "home" changed after the Fall. The relationship outside the "home" did not change one iota. If you notice the curse deals only with the "home" situation and no other. The "husband" was to be the Spiritual Leader in the "home" according to the Bible. However outside the "home" God never ever made this His practice. Women like Deborah, Huldah, were made Leaders of God's People even over other male authorities by God Himself. Even SDA Church .org history cites Ellen White as a God Ordained Leader of the SDA Church .org. As such Ellen White had Authority from God (according to SDA Church .org 28 Fundamental Beliefs) over all in the Church. Did the SDA males always take her commands? No. They often disobeyed her commands when her commands did not suit them. Either Ellen White is the SDA Church .org Authority including her writings or they are not. The official SDA Church .org says, "yes they are Authoritative". As such you have a woman leader in Ellen White that is over all in the SDA Church .org. To those faithful as even cited on this forum to ignore her writings and counsel is put in peril your eternal salvation. After all in the settlement of disputes within the SDA Church .org the last words that settle all issues is, "Ellen White says ........................" and the argument is settled in regard to Doctrine, in regard to dress, in regard to diet, in regard to "everything"...... We have seen this very kind of thing take place numerous times on this very forum. Hmmm. Thus, if Ellen White can be called by God to rule and set the rules of the SDA Church .org then why oh why cannot God call other SDA Church .org women to be Presidents/Ministers/Pastors/Administrators etc.? That is unless you wish to speak out of both sides of a misogynist mouth? Quote
Alchemy Posted March 17, 2012 Author Posted March 17, 2012 Not sure if this is pertinent to the discussion: "God Himself gave Adam a companion. He provided 'an help meet for him,'--a helper corresponding to him--one who was fitted to be his companion, and who could be one with him in love and sympathy. Eve was created from a rib taken from the side of Adam, signifying that she was not to control him as the head, nor to be trampled under his feet as an inferior, but to stand by his side as an equal, to be loved and protected by him. A part of man, bone of his bone, and flesh of his flesh, she was his second self, showing the close union and the affectionate attachment that should exist in this relation." P.P.46. This relation changed after the fall. sky I am glad this point has come up. I am not even implying man and woman are not equal. Both are in need of a Saviour and must put their faith in the perfect merits of Christ for salvation. But, God has established an order of things and the man being the head over the woman is one of them. As far as the image goes, Adam was mankind all by himself. Eve was added to mankind later, but Adam did not need Eve to be mankind, whereas Eve needed Adam to be mankind. Consequently, Adam doesn't need Eve to have the image of God, but Eve needs Adam to have the image of God. Now, of course, we all need the image of God through Christ. Quote Luke 12:32 NKJV
Moderators Kevin H Posted March 17, 2012 Moderators Posted March 17, 2012 I'm sorry Alchemy, but those who have studied the language point out that the image of God in this text is the oneness of male and female, either one is incomplete. It has also been pointed out that when in Gen 2 when God says that it is not good for man to be alone and that he was going to make a helpmeet for him, that it is not a word that means a "helper" in a inferier sense, like boss=secretary, nurse=nurse's aid etc. but in a superior sense, that the only other way this word is used is when the Hebrews were at the end of their rope and in a desprate situation and God is their only help. miz3 Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 I hate to point out but Adam could not have made children all by himself. Adam needed Eve and her part to the DNA. Eve clearly was an equal partner in regard to propagation. Adam could not have done it by himself nor could his DNA alone produce the offspring. Eve contributed an equal part. It is a silly assertion to say that only Adam had mankind in him. Where do you get such wrong ideas? Quote
Robert Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 I disagree completely. Scripture says God created man in His own image, then says God created both male and female. I can't find any Scripture that says God created females, or women, in the image of God. Gen 5:1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day when God created man [mankind], He made him in the likeness of God. 2 He created them male and female, and He blessed them [male & female] and named them Man in the day when they were created. Notice, God named them (plural) man - i.e., mankind. BTW, what's the point? We aren't in the image of God, yet. That will fully happen at translation. Our hearts...our minds for the believer are being renewed in the image of God, but our bodies are indwelt with sin (i.e., iniquity) - our bent to self. Quote

Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted March 17, 2012 Administrators Posted March 17, 2012 Are women created in the image of God? If women are not created in the image of God, then in whose image are they created? Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
Gibs Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 Tom I say in the image of God and only God. "Man" refers to both the male and female, Ge 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 'adam aw-dawm' from 119; ruddy i.e. a human being (an individual or the species, mankind, etc.):--X another, + hypocrite, + common sort, X low, man (mean, of low degree), person. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. First point I would like to make is this, even if some here believe they have studied the language point of the image of God and their view is correct, I would still disagree with the way the language is being applied. I believe there is a more Biblical understanding and it does not lend to the "oneness of male and female" as expressed in this Forum. As far as the help meet, the Bible expressed in Scripture is that woman was made for man, and not the other way around. Quote Luke 12:32 NKJV

The best answer I have from Scripture is 1 Cor. 11:7; "For a man indeed ought not to cover [his] head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man." (NKJV) This doesn't say "image", I know, but it is the best I know of at this time. Quote Luke 12:32 NKJV
