That little statement can be applied to many things we do. But today I want to apply it to the most important thing I know of. What's that?

Our Salvation. Why would anyone one want to shortcut on that issue? Isn't it worth more than all other treasures you could amass while on this earth?

Yet people pass over this one so lightly not giving it their most serious thought and consideration making sure they have all the facts right. Why would anyone not be willing to give all to this great important issue? We should be willing to work all our non sleeping hours making sure we made the mark required.

Is there a standard to be met? I'm afraid so, why for the judgement then. Why the measuring up and the balances?

Mainly ole self must be "killed", that is broken on the Rock, allowing Him to be the total master of our lives. Really we are His and not our own if you think about it, let us give Him our all completely, nothing withheld and praises be He sets us free like we never knew before.

Mt 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Mt 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

He will make each and every one of us an overcomer if we will let Him, give in to Him and be His freed slave of tranquility.

Ah, the secret,

Col 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

How many ways is there?

Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Lu 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

There You Go, Deny Self and take up our cross "daily" and follow Him and it must be Him only!

1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Narray a one of us has any excuse that we cannnot be overcomers, please read,

Php 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Eph 3:16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;

Eph 6:10 ¶ Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

Col 1:11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

Col 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

He tells us to be overcomers and when we have faith in Him and are given to be His, is there any doubt but what you can do ALL His Will?

Another reason to get the job done right is because there is no second chance to come up in the first resurrection, if not it will be the second resurrection and that isn't no joke.

In the second resurrection those will be raised with the same bodies and deformities they went to the grave with, But,

Those of the first resurrection are raised,

1Co 15:51 ¶ Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

1Co 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

1Co 15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

Shall we not do it right the one and only chance there will ever be?

2Co 6:2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

As old Joe Crews would say, "we must set our faces like flint to do his Will" and refrain from ours.

We must remember our way is not His way. We have a fight continually against a carnal nature.

Jer 17:10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

1Ti 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

An example of what it takes to do the Christian walk as a job worth doing is to do it right is Daniel. We must stand up and be counted as he and those with him and went through that firey furnace and didn't get harmed. Did Daniel and the 3 other worthies keep back an iota from giving all to God? No I'm sure ALL was on the line.

They had a purpose true, to please God above all else, it paid even before the first resurrection, thsy were Miraculously delivered in and from the hottest fire they could kindle.

The Heavenly Cannan Land will be worth all that we can give, in other words it will take all to buy that "field"! Why come up a pennies worth short of the purchase? When we wasted maybe a thousand times that on some worldly pleasure.

What is the treasure we seek? Let us not come so very close and come up with a miss! Make sure all is surrendered of this old worldly self love and love of the world.

1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

The SDA church has fallen into getting far too liberal to please the world and bring in large numbers as the goal and that is not a job worth doing.

It's fine to be liberal in some things but to take away the requirments especially on the salvation issue is a grave error indeed. Has that been done? Yes it has with what I term "new age theology", it is on the order of Jesus has done it all for you. Just believe and you are saved forgiven for past and future sining and on and on with different leanings of extreme liberality amounting to saved in sin, which is an untruth.

Getting this job done right is the most important one of your life. It may mean the loss of the true life as this life isn't but a breath of time compared to the eternal which is free but it is His way and not a Theologians’ way of men.

Follow Him as He is the Way The Truth and The Life. Let us make sure we are doing that job right, it is worth doing I assure you.

Jesus Christ has done it all and it's not 'new age theology' to believe that.

The focus of the gospel is what 'Christ has done for man' not the other way around.

You have this idea that faith is not enough, that we need to help God. Like God needs our help to save us.

Jesus saved you before you were even born and only requires one thing in return - For you to believe it.

True biblical faith is not as easy as most people think.

True biblical faith is not as easy as most people think.

Actually, it is NEW theology to believe that Cheddar. Jesus never said that He did it all for you--never! He had ample time to do this after His death, and give it to John in revelation--but the opposite is the truth. Jesus never said that ones faith will save them, nor will grace. Jesus never saved anyone my friend! That is pure fiction to believe as Jesus only made it possible for those who also overcome sin to be saved. Please read the words of Jesus and the book of Revelation and you will find the real truth.

If God could do 'it' all, then why would God NEED people to help Him as found in the book of revelation? Why the need for those who KEEP (works?) all of the ten commandments AND follow or hold fast to the words of Jesus? (Rev. 12:17). Biblical 'faith' is really trusting in God's words--the words Jesus spoke and given to us by His eyewitnesses. If you do NOT trust in those words and ACT upon them by obeying them, then simply beliving that Jesus is the Christ is moot. Even Satan believes that Jesus was the Christ.

Adventist churchs today are going by the way of all other christian churches. They are now teaching lies, that there is NOTHING you can do to be saved. Sure, this message may make you feel good, especially if you are one who refuses to search for truth and practice it. That is exactly what Satan want's people to feel, secure so that they refuse to learn the truth.

If a preacher gets up and teaches that one is saved by grace, then they are not presenting the whole truth of the matter because grace of God is reserved only for those who show their love to God by keeping all of the commandments.

Well don't miss the boat with that thar bet, read this and reconcile with it.,

EGW speaks,

" There is divine grace for all who will accept it; yet there is something for us to do. We often hear it said that it is what Jesus has done for us, and not anything that we can do for ourselves, that will secure for us heaven. This may be true in one sense, but in another it is not true. There is a work for us to do to fit ourselves for the society of angels. We must be like Jesus, free from the defilement of sin. He was all that he requires us to be; he was a perfect pattern for childhood, for youth, for manhood. We must study the pattern more closely". {RH, November 17, 1885 par. 6}

With the "New Age Theology" many are going to miss the "boat" so to speak, get it right now in this day of salvation which is too soon to end as it is getting close now to the finish line!.

Re 2:11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

He isn't going to make any to be an overcomer, it that where the case He would have made us to be unable to sin in the first place.

Jesus talked about faith more than Paul did!

Every miracle that he performed required that the recipient have at least a little faith.

The first message that Jesus spoke after being filled with the Holy Spirit was 'repent, and believe the gospel'.

If you're going to throw Paul away, you need to throw Jesus in the trash can too!

Faith brings all of the other blessings with it.

If you really want to be an overcomer and it sounds like you do, you should quit listening to Ellen White because she was a legalist for most of her life.

Just because some pastor preaches a ‘faith message’ and then goes home and beats up his wife and kids or runs off with his secretary doesn’t mean that the ‘faith message’ is bad.

It just means that that pastor had no faith at all or very little.

Jesus said that some have little faith while others have great faith. So that’s what goes up and down, not our law keeping.

No, NO Cheddar, EGW was no legalist. She preached against legalism. That's what the church mostly was of until the messages of AT Jones and Wagoner came in. She had stated to the effect that the law, the law was preached until it was as dry as the hills of Gilboa and this was the message to get on the narrow way out of the ditch of legalism. But what happened most did come out of legalism but then most of them began to get in the opposite ditch of liberalism and today the theology of salvation in the SDA church is no different than in the mainline Sunday churches.

It is the narrow way because it is a fine line sometimes between legalistic and liberalistict. But the world to day demands, preach unto me "smooooth" things or I'll be gone to where salvation is had and I can do as I've always done. Oh yes that thar is the way the worldly church has gone and loves it and will fight for it will great vigor, you better believe!

The whole trouble is is that it is not the way to salvation that Christ has made and is the only way. That way cannot be made to suit man, man must suit the Waymaker!

Follow Him and Him only and do all His way, leave your way and others back there in the ditch!

Interesting posts here and all of them good. Cheddar not accepting EGW and me not accepting both EGW and Paul's words for building my foundational belief upon. And then Gibs and others choosing what they want to believe from both Paul and EGW. Yes, I have gone through a bag of potatoes and taken out the rotten ones, same with bags of fruit. I guess many do this with everyone's writings as I know several Mormons who do the same with Josepth Smith's writings. JW's do the same with the whole bible as do Adventists. Pick and choose what you want from the words of others just to fit your sandy soil foundational belief--is that what Jesus wanted us to do?

Didn't Jesus say something about throwing out the whole loaf of bread if it even has an insy bitsy tiny winnie bit of yeast in it?

And it is very clear to me that all of 'us' defend the beliefs that we have by using the bible. Does anyone see something wrong here besides me? Sure, we have some unity, but not the unity that is required for citizens of the KOH. So the question remains-what really is the truth? And--where do we find this real truth?

This is a good thought FISAU. Faith really is of no value unless it’s placed in the truth.

The reason Jesus spoke of people having little or weak faith is because they believed more in the lies of the world than in the word of God.

For example, when I first became a Christian I had a really hard time believing that the world was created in six days. I had always been taught in school from the time I was little that the world was millions of years old and man evolved from sludge. It took me years of prayer and bible study to finally give up those false ideas.

We all have lies that we cling to and evolution isn’t even the worst one. The worst lie of all is the one that says ‘we have to do good works to earn our salvation’. Satan has built his entire kingdom around this one. It’s even common to hear it in most churches so that should tell you something right there.

Salvation is a free gift bought and paid for by the blood of Jesus Christ. If you try to work for it you will lose it and be lost forever.

Hi cheddar

"The worst lie of all is the one that says ‘we have to do good works to earn our salvation’.

I don't believe that the Adventist Church actually teaches this doctrine, however I guess the lives of members does reflect this theology. That is why life in the church becomes burdensome as one tries to win their way to heaven.

The only way is Christ, who" worketh in you both to will and to do his good pleasure"

We are justified by faith but faith does not stand alone. It is faith that works that saves, because faith without works is dead.

Posted

In the judgment we will be judged by our works. Works are an outward evidence of what is going on inside. They can’t save but they do reveal.

The statement I made is a true statement but you never hear it that way, it’s always some subtle variation.

Like - ‘Faith is important but you need to keep the law also’ or ‘Faith is one oar of the boat and works are the other’.

God will never accept anything that sinful man can do. He will only accept what Christ has done for us which we receive not by working but by believing.

Posted

Yes, Cheddar, your post would be correct according to words found in the NT, but would not be correct if they were to be compaired with the words of Jesus as found in Matthew, John and Revelation. Therein lies the foundational problem. This is THE problem that has caused division among all who call themself a Christian and even from those who are Adventists. It caused division among Adventists in 1888 and has continued ever since.

Sure, many have attempted to weld this division shut by dancing, twisting and tap dancing through the New Testiment but without any true success. Those who can't see this problem are those who are now spiritually sleeping.

The very last words of Jesus warn everyone that the rewards one gets are for the WORKS or deeds that they do or not do--not the faith that they have or do not have.

The very last words of Rev. are ‘The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.’

I have never denied that we are not rewarded according to our works. I said that we can never earn our salvation by our works.

The way the world is set up – if you want good things in this life you need to work for it and earn money. Unfortunately, people bring this corrupt thinking into the church and think that salvation must be the same way.

When I’m at my job, I work really hard and do everything the best I can. But in my relationship with Jesus I don’t try to overcome sin – I trust that Jesus will give me the victory even though he doesn’t always give it right away.

Just a bit more from EGW and she makes it clear we have a part to do, call it works but it is only a work of True Love of Him,

"We have a work to do to fashion the character after the divine model. All wrong habits must be given up. The impure must become pure in heart; the selfish man must put away his selfishness; the proud man must get rid of his pride: the self-sufficient man must overcome his self-confidence, and realize that he is nothing without Christ. Every one of us will be sorely tempted; our faith will be tried to the uttermost. We must have a living connection with God; we must be partakers of the divine nature; then we shall not be deceived by the devices of the enemy, and shall escape the corruption that is in the world through lust. {RH, November 17, 1885 par. 8}

We need to be anchored in Christ, rooted and grounded in the faith. Satan works through agents. He selects those who have not been drinking of the living waters, whose souls are athirst for something new and strange, and who are ever ready to drink at any fountain that may present itself. Voices will be heard, saying, "Lo, here is Christ," or "Lo there;" but we must believe them not. We have unmistakable evidence of the voice of the True Shepherd, and he is calling upon us to follow him. He says, "I have kept my Father's commandments." He leads his sheep in the path of humble obedience to the law of God, but he never encourages them in the transgression of that law." {RH, November 17, 1885 par. 9}

Ok, I understand that and it is just another way of saying that overcoming sin will take care of itself as long as we are showing Jesus we love Him by obeying what He said. right? And besides cheddar, I am not worried for you as you seem to have a good grip on salvation issues.

But what gets me I suppose and perhaps the same for Gibs, is that too many who call themselves a Christian (even Adventists) believe that Jesus is the Christ but when you ask them about Jesus they are clueless because they have never read the words of Jesus from His eyewitnesses. These are the ones who will wear a cross around their neck and/or have a tattoo of a cross and then believe that they are saved even though they clearly keep on openly sinning. By their own deeds they blaspheme the Holy Spirit.

Yes, John wrote the word 'grace' twice, once in the begining and again at the end of Revelation. But Jesus never said anyone will ever be saved by grace alone.

Hello cheddar

I guess the best illustration for the vitality of faith that works is in John 15:1-8

1 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples."

Faith can be likened to us as branches and works as fruits..it is noteworthy that fruits determined the branches' destiny..either it is thrown away and burned

or pruned to produce more fruits..that is the reality

Works that cannot save, are works that is devoid of Christ, no matter how good the intentions..It is he that "worketh in you both to will and to do his good pleasure". Justification and sanctification are both his works..there is nothing

that we can give to please God because he provides for our faith and works in us to produce fruits that are acceptable to him..that is why works is essential because it is the product of his own works in us

Posted

I really like that Fisua, it is dead on point and simple. That is what I enjoy about the actual words of Christ vs words of those who never knew Jesus but think they know all about Jesus.
