Administrators Gail Posted June 16, 2012 Administrators Posted June 16, 2012 Are we getting into degrees of agrees here? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
olger Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 I will raise your agree to one more agree. I agree³ Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
cricket Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 If the wife is trained to be a witness to such events, or if she is ordained to help minister, that might be all right. Some spouses would only complicate things, IMO. For all of you who keep agreeing with one another, do any of you care if the wife/spouse is trained to help, or is it just fine with you if the spouse is untrained in counseling and NOT bound by law to keep private matters private? Keeping private matters private perhaps should be the duty of Christians in general, counsellors or not. I feel strongly about gossip... Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
cricket Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 I agree with that. However, there are those in the ministry who have spouses who do not fill the duties of a Christian. Quote

True enough! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Are SDA pastors trained and qualified to be counselors? Do we blame abuse or improper contact on lonliness? Most abuses begin in the school/church of the accused, not overseas. When any party falls in "moment of temptation" that is clearly planned what will the No unchaperaoned policy do? Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman

That happens to be the problem that I had with our pastor that just got moved. His wife blabbed private things about me and used me to the tune of over $10,000.00. Quote
OzarkWoman Posted June 17, 2012 Author Posted June 17, 2012 I agree with that. However, there are those in the ministry who have spouses who do not fill the duties of a Christian. And what about the actual pastors who do not fill the duties of a true Christian? Quote
cricket Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 Are SDA pastors trained and qualified to be counselors? I have no idea. Probably some are, and probably some not. I have always assumed that they are required by law to keep private matters private--something about only having to disclose matters of privacy when under court obligation. I don't know of any law that says that a spouse of the pastor is under such obligation. Quote
cricket Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 And what about the actual pastors who do not fill the duties of a true Christian? I think there is legal recourse with a pastor (an employee bound by contract with the conference) who acts inappropriately--censorship, excommunication, loss of employment. Quote

True enough! Just as there are those in the ministry who do not fill the duties of a Christian as their spouses do. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted June 17, 2012 Members Posted June 17, 2012 some of the most gossipy people I have known were the spouses of pastors...and it seems the reason for that is because they are "privy" to *juicy* information not known by the general congregation.. I would **never** acquiesce to having a spouse around if I wished to talk to someone about something confidential. That includes the spouse of a pastor, of a psychologist, of a doctor, or of a friend. I think a pastor is qualified to be a pastor...not a counselor. Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
