Dr. Shane Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 I am too tired to read the whole thread. I respect the Court's decision today and it really was a non-activist decision. There are some really bad things in Obamacare I don't like but there are a lot of really good things too. It had no Republican contribution to it so it may be a good thing if Republicans can tear it up a bit which will probably make it better. I doubt it will all get tossed out even if Romney becomes the next President. I will say that I don't like the individual mandate although I can see where Roberts is coming from that it can be understood as a tax. Most of the time taxes are paid for a benefit a person gets from the government so calling a penalty or a punishment a tax is stretching things but the Supreme Court is allowed to stretch things. The people and legislators are always free change the law. What upsets me more is when the people pass a law and courts strike it down by stretching things a bit. In this case the court upheld a law by stretching things, that always leaves the people with the option of striking the law down themselves by electing different leaders.
