Eating Beef, Milk and Butter

Why is it so anathema to eat Beef Milk and Butter.

Jesus as our example did.

Can you really tell me if I raise my own cattle that I would be eating something bad for me?

May we be one so that the world may be won.

Are you certain about that? I've read that he ate fish and lamb (I believe), but you'll have to show me examples about the other foods.

Gen.18:3 And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant:

18:4 Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree:

18:5 And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said.

18:6 And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead [it], and make cakes upon the hearth.

18:7 And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetched a calf tender and good, and gave [it] unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it.

18:8 And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set [it] before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.

18:9 And they said unto him, Where [is] Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.

18:10 And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard [it] in the tent door, which [was] behind him.

OK I forgot that, I was thinking the NT, while Jesus was an actual man living on earth.

Is there a difference? Does it matter which Testament it is in?

The most convincing reason to avoid meat for me is that there will be no killing in the new earth. not even for food.

So - why did Jesus eat it?

So - why did Jesus eat it?

I don't recall that it was forbidden? Do you?

I think your asking the wrong question, why not ask "how can I honor (bring glory to) my Savior by eating/drinking beef, milk and butter?"

I suppose my answer would be that as a "Christian" - I follow the example of Christ.

Woody, Please post some pictures of you slitting your cows throat, also some pictures of you gutting it and slicing yourself some steaks. By the way what are you going to do with what is left after you are through? (Kind of puts it in a different perspective doesen't it)

I don't see anything wrong with it...although if I raised my own beef, I'd had a real problem trying to eat it, since I tend to make pets out of animals that come under my care..

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

I would provide 'shovel ready jobs' for others to do the 'dirty' work. :)

Monty,

We live in a society that does that for us. I worked in a slaugter house and let me tell you that a good 90% of each animal is used.Very few of us milk cows and churn our own butter either.

But for that matter most people don't grow thier own vegetables, grains, mill thier own flour, have and orange tree, grow nuts in the back yard etc either.

EC....I also worked at a slaughter house during a desperate time I needed money while in college. I know the drill first hand. You have emphasized the issue. In many ways we are removed from the reality of our existence. I once counseled a man troubled by work duties one of which required him to stand in a vat of cow eyeballs and shovel them out into another container. This is the side of meat consumption people don't have to deal with.

okay, this isn't a picture of slaughtering.....well...not of a cow, anyway...

Well Monty - I am sure there are enough people in need of work due to the economic conditions of our country - that one should have no problem finding hire.

Good reason not to condemn. (FOR ME) not sure about the honor part, as I have looked into the subject, it makes sense to limit the harmful things that go into my body. But thats just me.

Why didn't Jesus limit the "harmful" things?

Many things man now enjoys and perhaps has been enjoying for many centuries (not to mention that 80% of the foods now available on supermarket shelves weren't available until the last 15 or 20 years) were a concession to man's need after the fall. I'm sure the arguement about the benefits of most of them do reveal room for disagreement, pro or con.

Personal experience, considering my spouse as one with me according to the Word:

My wife grew up with cow's milk being the most delicious staple of her daily diet. Her juvenile mores never left her and as she grew older the habit remained a prominent part of her diet. Until such time as she developed both vascular disease and diabetes.

Some may argue there is no proof positives indicating large amounts of annual intake of butterfat will cause vascular disease. I'll let you do your own research. And since lactose is a form of sugar it isn't farfetched, I believe, to attach the same source a major culprit leading to the onset of diabetes.

Consider the high liklihood that both these diseases, if not directly a result of high amounts of cow's milk, are definitely affected adversly by its' continued use, in any appreciable amounts. Am I then to consider it the right thing to do to diregard the need to discontinue its' use.

If nothing else happened as a result of the passing of pounds of butterfat through one's system every year, it would still be a health issue. And there is only one command in the Scripture that I know might cover how to deal with that issue early.

"Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God."

1 Corinthians 10:31 ASB

If the diseases are a result of ignorance , the results remain the same. And consider this, in taking medicines to combat the symptoms it was found that the remedies have proven worse than the disease and she now is unable to remember which end of the house the bathroom is on, not to mention who her husband is.

Perhaps there will be a miracle and something can be found to reverse the condition.

We have this one most important joy that we share together. We both see Jesus as Savior and He has given us both love for Him and for each other that He has promised to be eternal, but how much more might have been the joy of life here if both of us could have experienced the physical abundant life together now instead of having to wait for the resurrection.

"Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth." 3 John 1:2 KJV

God blesses! peace

Lift Jesus up!!

One of the problems with eating meat is, from what I heard growing up, by my Jewish Adventist Pastors, was that our bodies were not make to digest meat. Also when Jesus was on this earth, disease in animals was not near as bad as today. People are not cooking meat long enough to kill all the germs. etc. So when we eat meat, whatever disease the animal has/had we will have. And also many are not draining all the blood out as the Jews do. And many are eating the fat as well, which god also said we shouldn't do.

Perhaps Jesus didn't know the bad that cows did to a person.
