I have been thinking about joining

but sometimes I feel that I have no right to be a real part of this.

Or think that others feel i have no right to be here.

I feel I have to assure people here that im a real SDA.

I feel I have to assure people that I am non practicing homosexual.

I feel that I am way over my head regarding my I.Q. when I see such beautiful intelligent insightful thought out essays on the evils of nonkosher gelatin. And all i can ad is-"phooey on orange jello!"

If I pay I would like to be myself.

And I see that isnt often encouraged by a few.

I work hard for my money and I take a big chance by putting my name out there for all to judge.

As adults its weird to see someone say" I wont pay tithe anymore!" and other adults become the parents of him or her

and say YOU HAVE TO-GOD SAID IT!!!

THats looks so codepependent.

most likely the person knows what the bible says.

SDA's have always(since I can remember) always look over shoulders and say what GOD or EGW says. We wont let a full grown adult ask for advice first EVER. We always make it a point to Tell em. I dont think I am saying this right. My intent isnt to beat anyone up or to lesson Biblical mandates regarding reproof or rebuking sin. maybe someone can convey what im trying to say. My frustration is blocking me.

I know this is a forum for discussion and debate and I Always enjoy the diversity of opinions.

Its just too weird sometimes.

Most people have been kind to me cause I try to say the right things... Well....relatively speaking!

Ironic, amusing, and eloquently stated. I don't believe you have any IQ difficulties. I don't believe the evils of nonkosher gelatin require beautiful essays.

Yes, things can get weird around here. Sometimes I wonder how we can all be in relatively the same culture (Adventist) and have so many different ideas on how to treat things such as God's love, standards, and how to respond to those who disagree with us.

I suspect you are testing us with your handle. I hope you stay around. I pray God's love surrounds you.

G4J--My $0.02 worth--I'd like to see you join. I'm one of the non-intellectuals who comes for the fellowship but stays out of the fray a lot. I still like the forum. I like what I've seen that you've written, and quite frankly, once people know you, I don't see that there's that much "splainin" you have to do.

Do what you have to do, but I'd like to see you stay around.

I'd also like to see you stay around, G4J. You have an insightful and interesting way of saying things. I certainly am not an eloquant writer either, and can feel a bit intimidated by those with better skills than mine in that department. I do enjoy reading others opinions and comments, tho.......as long as they aren't always condemning others for differing points of view, etc. Those I get really tired of and won't even read their comments anymore.

..and one final point: the main person who seems to have a problem with your nickname is not a registered member either, and has indicated that he won't be joining up, so I think perhaps that problem will solve itself. Hope you'll join us.

11 cents a day is still 3.30 dollars a month or 39.60 a year or whatever the discount for year was maybe 30 dollars. So the question is what does this forum give the participant that SDAnet.org, Atomorrow.com or other free SDA forums give.

As I recall most of the registered members joined here before there was a monetary charge. So I have no idea of how many people are paid members verses those who like me are not. As far as I know this is the only SDA forum which charges.

I would like to see a forum with a large readership, I think charging is counter productive toward that goal. Just my opinion take it or leave it.

Hi Ron <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Adventist have a thing about building big buildings, and trust people will come. I think you may also know some examples of that. PROBLEM is we do not spend $$$ to get people there. Take a look at some ABC's, Churches, Camps etc.

The reason for the traffic and membership here is because of advertising. If you wanted to spend the same amount putting ads in your union paper for C/A that would work as well.

sdanet, ROA, MSDAOL etc are usually good places, BUT will not grow because they won't spend the $$$ to tell people they exist. Yet there are great members there. Other sites have fallen off the map.

Most of our problems happen with unpaid members, they become drive-by-shooters only a couple of paid memberships have been voted off by the remaining tribe.

There are other reasons as well, but those are they main ones.

Pretty much everything costs someone something. I got tired of both drive-by-shooters and begging for funds.

It's is ok to disagree with me, a lot of people do, and i am very capable of making mistakes, have in the past, the future does not look that much different.

If you receive benefit to being here please help out with expenses.

You are more than welcomed here! I don't think you re "unintellectual" or "out of place" or "that you can't say things right". None of us have a handle on doing it right etc. MOst of us are not intellectuals so you are in good company. I hope you will decide to stay.

Posted

Stan, never heard or saw too many drive by's here, only internal, anonymous shooters allowed by the owner, administrators and moderators. You know who you are, and so do you Stan. I believe there is a little less likelihood of bouncing someone who is paying and keeping things going financially.

Since I will be leaving, I guess I can tell my feelings about handles like G4J. It may be you all think that this is a good way to allow personal growth. In the above post, he admits that he feels obligated to tell posters he is not a practicing Gay. Why is that? Because of the handle, the negative aspects of the handle, I don't believe that most SDAs looking around feel comfortable joining where there is a fear of perversion, and they may not be willing to state their fear, but Stan, Amelia and Bravus have made it clear how you feel about it. Good luck with your marketing strategy.

G4J, I for the most part don't have a problem with you being here, but your descriptions of your SF livestyle I could have done without and you would do better to change your handle and talking so openly about it, since it puts it back through your head again. No ill will, just think you are misguided in this regard and IMO not Spirit guided.

Bravus, very interesting, this new policy chases away Stan Laurel and myself but you appeal for G4J to stay because I won't be there. Very interesting marketing strategy. You all are definitely interesting in how you all think new members will come. Good Luck.

1. It's not a new policy, it's the logical conclusion of an experiment.

2. It's not chasing anyone away: G4J is choosing to subscribe, you're absolutely welcome to do so too. You're choosing not to support a service of which you've made extensive use: your choice.

3. I've said it to your face before: your persecution of G4J for his nickname was way out of line. You were basically the one person here who was making him feel unwelcome and unsafe, and that's unacceptable. If you'd been intending to stay, then we'd have had to find a solution, but since you've chosen of your own free will to leave, I don't think it's over the line to let him know that he will feel safer.

4. It's not my experiment and not my forum in any sense - I'm just an observer. So it's not my policy to seek new members, or to have a marketing strategy, and my comments aren't part of any strategy. I definitely welcome new members, and support Stan in his efforts to attract them here, and you're very welcome to be a member, if you choose to.

Dear Bob,

I am not comfortable "taking people on" directly, but I will make an exception here. Is your mix of passive-aggressive and outright belligerent attacks of the people and policies you don't approve of really called for?

As for Stan's policy, successful landlords have learned that requiring a reasonable rent makes good sense - renters are much less likely to trash the house if they are "buying in." Those landlords who don't, usually get out of the business in the long run; the maintenance costs are just too great. It's why no-rent and low-rent setups almost never end up working. Ownership, in one form or another, matters.

At CA, buying in involves a good deal more than simply refraining from trashing the house. For the most part, those who buy in tend to care about themselves, their reputations, the quality of their posts, and the associations they keep. Call it a foible of humanity or whatever, but it works and that's the way things are.

And for the record, in my case also, I am speaking strictly for myself here. Nothing else.

Regards,

Norm

A number of threads were moved - including this one, but several others as well. Stan will know which, because he moved them, but basically anything that had had any play in the last week or so, I think.

or,

not that it is a matter of huge import, but in that I generally read things pretty straightforwardly, I'm of a bit of perplex, as pertains the ongoing... ;-

Erm, 'active' means 'active', as in 'experiencing activity'... i think that's pretty straightforward...

Edit: OK, I realised later that this is only the case if one defines 'activity' for a thread as writing rather than reading...

Gay4Jesus, I have no problem with your handle OR your frank sharing of life experiences OR anything else that has to do with you being you. There is room at the foot of the cross for all of us. Don't let others' very obviously personal problems get to you. They are only telling on themselves 100% and saying nothing at all about you.

I would be glad to see you stay and join the forum.

uhhh, yes, normally; however, where the majuscule accent is employed in casual dialog --it is generally meant to lend or to convey more than the cursory ‘read’ might otherwise afford… Like,

ACTIVE:

/ those having X many viewers to post – ratio

/ those having more than X number of posts – over a given period

/ those have a post submitted within the last X number of days, weeks, months, take your pick…

/ those that the Ad considered more acceptably ‘active’ in tone than others…

/ those having an adjudged ‘actively’ quality signal

/ or, even, as some ‘actively’ labor…, ‘presentable[?] linguistic construction’

/ or…etc

In other words, ‘activity’ is elliptical; ACTIVE or ‘active’ or “active” or active or active, etc, can all be gravid with meaning.

In other words, where’s the ‘Hospital’ thread? or where is ‘Refugee’? or…,

…with the reiterated explication that it is of no huge import; just perplexed…

I'm not going to belabor this. I simply desired to know if there was a hang-up in the system or if there was censure/censorship being utilized.

Thanks :-o

Stan, I’m not of mind to cause you grief. I think that, inherently, you are a fair man; however, I perceive that certain ‘pleadings’ bear upon you… and what you desire to attain-to. That being said,

please, allow me my last word on the matter.

Refugee:

/ was well into its third page

/ …proximating a hundred [?] posts [/fuzzy mind engaged]

/ last post submitted within last several days

/ as a plus --attempted to avoid the completely extraneous

Now, if ‘active’ turns upon the fact that no one else (to speak of) posted to the thread recently (Clio, the exception and welcomed), then fer shur, it meets the criterion for -- inactive. Otherwise…,
