Woody Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Is it okay to allow meat at our church potlucks? It would appear that our prophet would have supported this. Consider the following: Quote: Many healthful dishes can be prepared which are free from grease and from the flesh of dead animals. A variety of simple dishes, perfectly healthful and nourishing, may be provided, aside from meat. Hearty men must have plenty of vegetables, fruits, and grains. Occasionally some meat may have to be given to outsiders who have so educated their taste that they think that unless they have meat, they cannot keep up their strength. What say you? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Administrators Gail Posted July 18, 2012 Administrators Posted July 18, 2012 The one church I attend does usually include one meat dish such as salmon or sliced something. The other one, the traditional one, will have more vegan. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Woody Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 Good for your church Gail. And I didn't include the reference for the quote which is CD 407. I love it when I find balance in our prophet's writings. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
jasd Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 >>from the flesh of dead animals.<< [/grinning] Puts me to mind a Shecky Greene story: "Little Bo Peep has lost her sheep and don't know where to find them... Leave them alone and they'll come home wagging their tails behind them. 'What!--they should be wagging their tails in front of them?' It's in the book!" "Meat at Potluck"? ...s'posed to follow Jesus Christ's example, what? Else, so much for WWJD, yes? Quote
cricket Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Did Ellen White leave any recipes laying around? I'm looking for healthful vegetarian dishes that have none of the following ingredients: gluten wheat soy msg walnuts peanuts legumes aged cheeses (parmesean, romano, etc. ) corn sweet potatoes kale cabbage sauerkraut mushrooms almonds pecans tahini sesame seeds spinach poppy seeds turmeric okra cranberries black tea cinnamon amaranth buckwheat potatoes cream of tartar pistachio rice milk-vanilla soy milk strawberries raspberries curry black pepper bananas apples iceberg lettuce romaine lettuce sesame seeds corn syrup cornstarch vinegar carrots Quote

cricket Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Allergies. The above list is an incomplete list of foods my husband cannot eat. I'd love it if someone could give me vegan recipes that would give him complete nutrition. I do not think it is possible, but am prepared to be amazed if someone would. Quote

nuff sed Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 There is absolutely NO REASON to serve meat at church potlucks nor at any other Adventist Institution. What you do in your own home is your business but if we are to follow the counsel that has been given us then when we are together in a 'corporate body' (IE. church) we should 'adhere to counsel" and 'lay off'. I don't know of anybody who has been attracted to the church because we capitulated because we didn't want to offend. . One of the workers at our lunch in the Forest Lake Church thrift store remarked after eating the "Fri-Chik Cacciatore" that my wife had prepared, "Boy if I had known that the Vegemeat could taste this good I could have become an Adventist sooner." <gg>.....Let the stoning begin......Nuff Sed Quote

cricket Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 There's only one place to get healthy food--an organic garden. For people who cannot survive on vegetables alone (persons such as my husband), an organic garden and a free-range, organic farm is a good second choice. Quote

Sorry to say but what I have seen at the potlucks I have attended, they were not all that healthy. There is always some salads and a few veggies but overall, it is mostly pasta and potatoes. Of course, one must never forget that the dessert area has lots of stuff. I have eaten more healthy than most of the SDA's I have met because the average person does not really know what proper nutrition is and what their body honestly needs to make it run properly. Quote

Windsor Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 When I've seen non vegetarian food at Adventist institutions, it hasn't surprised me why. The vegetarian food at such places is usually pretty awful and so they probably get complaints. Loma Linda Medial Center, for example, serves only vegetarian food in their cafeteria and the place is packed. Patients, however, have the option of getting meat dishes in their room. Gibs Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Cricket, I know that people with extreme alergies have to be very careful. There is some very good natural practictioners that might have some answers. I have read of some that have taken fresh raw bee pollen, start one little pollen bundle as the bees bring in and if no reaction in a few days step up to two etc until a goodly amount can be tolerated. It was stated the pollen needs be in your local. But beware one pollen bundle could cause a strong reaction. Do you live close to Superior Mt.. I know a Dr. Ron Greene there and he is one of the best herbalists around and whether he is into dealing with such alergy situations I don't know. I would look into how many totally raw foods he can tolerate and add to that somehow what he needs for nutrition. Vegans biggest fall down is not knowing the things to get full nutrition but the fact is it is easy if one isn't allergic to them. A totally raw food diet will clear up most problems of heath if full nutrition is achieved. Alfalfa is your king of foods and contains more protien than beef and of much higher quality and is not second hand. Do go carefull and keep looking around and asking questions, world of knowledge on the internet but it must be weeded and sorted out for worthwhile info. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
