cooldude Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Imagine it's sermon time in the Divine Hour. Your pastor steps forward to deliver his Sabbath sermon and almost immediately, not only starts using profanity himself, but calls upon the whole congregation to join him. And before you can gather your wits to process this, the brethren all around you spring to their feet and blend their voices in a chorus of swearing. Read more... Quote

Moderators Gerr Posted August 18, 2012 Moderators Posted August 18, 2012 P.234] Let all things be done decently and in order. 1 Cor. 14:40. The things you have described . . . the Lord has shown me would take place just before the close of probation. Every uncouth thing will be demonstrated. There will be shouting, with drums, music, and dancing. The senses of rational beings will become so confused that they cannot be trusted to make right decisions. And this is called the moving of the Holy Spirit. {Mar 234.1} The Holy Spirit never reveals itself in such methods, in such a bedlam of noise. This is an invention of Satan to cover up his ingenious methods for making of none effect the pure, sincere, elevating, ennobling, sanctifying truth for this time. . . . A bedlam of noise shocks the senses and perverts that which if conducted aright might be a blessing. The powers of Satanic agencies blend with the din and noise, to have a carnival, and this is termed the Holy Spirit’s working. . . . Those participating in the supposed revival receive impressions which lead them adrift. They cannot tell what they formerly knew regarding Bible principles. {Mar 234.2} White, E. G. (1976). LifeHiscost Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Like it or not, the pastor in that video is mega-church material. I wouldn't be surprised, but the church he leads might be getting him and those who follow him, where they don't want to go. Could that possibly be as described here? "Indeed I will make those of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews and are not, but lie—indeed I will make them come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you."Revelation 3:9 NKJV God blesses! JoeMo Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Don't take this wrong; but isn't "cussing" a relative thing? I know in my family; the word starting with f meaning passing gas was considered a cuss-word. I hear 3-year olds using it all the time now. C-rapp is a censored word on this website; but I hear it used in sermons all the time. If it is disgusting to cuss in church, shouldn't it be disgusting everywhere? Isn't God just as present in the park and the home as He is in the sanctuary? At the very least, cursing is a poor witness in many circles. Quote
Administrators Naomi Posted August 22, 2012 Administrators Posted August 22, 2012 Certainly we all surely agree that God is everywhere, but the church is a designated house of God. Personally, it matters not how others worship ... For example, I love praise songs and I love the quiet heartfelt inspirational songs, and old hymns. But I don't want a steady diet of any of them...as for language, I suppose if one gets their kicks from using or listening to one speak using a limited vocabulary than so be It. Personally, I would walk out. A study which was presented at a State Convention of Municipal Judges & Court Clerks supports what I have been taught in the business world for years ... cussing is unprofessional and will often prevent a person from being promoted, receiving the job initially or be otherwise censured by the company. As for the exact study, I will have to do some research to find it's source, etc. My point being: If it is considered rude and uneducated in the public sector, how much more should it be in the house of God? JoeMo Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Naomi, I agree with most of your points. I certainly agree that the church is hallowed ground; and things that may be acceptable outside of church are NOT acceptable inside the sanctuary - it goes beyond the words we use. IMO it should include the way we dress and the way we carry ourselves. It could be argued that even those issues are subjective. The study to which you refer on bad language in the office is strictly academic. While foul use of foul language may be limited in large meetings, my 35 years as a business professional show that many people (including senior execs) are quite proficient with their colorful language in small or department meetings; and those who complain about it are the ones who are usually shunned. JoeMo, I certainly agree that while all may not be able to afford to dress in good clothing when attending church, clean appropriate dress shows respect ... as it does in the professional world. I have also heard probably every foul word known to man in the business world, on many levels. Certainly those who complain are unpopular within the circles of cussers. Never, would i even acknowledge their abuse of the language. Moreover, IMHO I feel it would be quite unacceptable and politically incorrect to call out the abusers on their language, any more than publically correcting a person's other habits. However, cursing is most unacceptable in a board meeting of exec's or other public meetings. Just think how much more unacceptable it would be in the house of God. I think we are saying the same thing in different ways Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God

Members phkrause Posted August 24, 2012 Members Posted August 24, 2012 GP, personally I have no problem with Pastor Wright. And who are we to judge? Have those that are negative to him been to his church and listened to his message? Besides God will determine who will be with him in heaven, and I bet there will be a very unlikely bunch there, and we will all be surprised!
