Administrators Gail Posted September 25, 2012 Administrators Posted September 25, 2012 is today. Just heard that on the radio. Can someone say, "Cars," by Gary Numan? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Members phkrause Posted September 25, 2012 Members Posted September 25, 2012 "Cars" Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
JoeMo Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 How about "Green-Eyed Lady" by Sugarloaf? Or "Dream Weaver" by Gary Wright? Or "In A Gotta Da Vita" by Iron Butterfly? Some trivia - Who was the opening act for the Monkees in their (and his) first American tour? What was the original name of "In A Gotta Da Vita" ? Quote

Administrators Gail Posted September 26, 2012 Author Administrators Posted September 26, 2012 Oh, yeah, the Monkees question- I knew that! I think it was Jimi Hendrix, if I'm not mistaken. I know it was preposterous... Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted September 26, 2012 Author Administrators Posted September 26, 2012 I fought the law LOL a lot of good THAT did!! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted September 26, 2012 Author Administrators Posted September 26, 2012 Yes, I wonder how our world today might be different if the Archies had had a string of hits and influenced the young of America. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
JoeMo Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 More and more Christian bands are going mainstream - maybe not recording formal Christian music; but music with a positive spiritual message in the lyrics. My favorite has been U2 for quite some time. The Fray is another good one. Quote
Administrators Gail Posted September 26, 2012 Author Administrators Posted September 26, 2012 I love the Fray- their lyrics are quite thoughtful! My daughter has seen them live. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Some trivia - Who was the opening act for the Monkees in their (and his) first American tour? What was the original name of "In A Gotta Da Vita" ? Before we were married my wife once paid a cab driver $50 to let her finish listening to Dream Weaver on the radio in his cab. In A Gotta Da Vita In the Garden of Eden Quote
JoeMo Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 MT- You got it! They changed the name of the song to "In A Gotta Da Vita" cuz nobody could understand what they were saying. About your wife - LOL! I'm pretty old; but I listen to some of the music I used to like (and hate) in the 60's and think "what was I thinking?" I was crazy about the Bee-Gees and hated Jimi Hendrix! M. T. Cross Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 We all make mistakes that we regret Joe, most of us not quite to the extreme of liking the Bee Gees and hating Jimi, but in the spirit of friendship I will not hold that against you. I might laugh at you a bit over it tho, just sayin. Quote
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted September 28, 2012 Administrators Posted September 28, 2012 A few days late... But here are a few more one hit wonders that I recognize when going through a list for the 1960's. If I listened to more of them I would likely recognize more. Ally-Oop by the Hollywood Argyles from 1960 Rhythm of the Rain by the Cascades from 1963 Girl from Ipamema by Astrid Gilberto & Stan Getz from 1964 Green Tambourine by the Lemon Pipers from 1967 Judy in Disguise (With Glasses) by John Fred & His Playboy Band from 1967 McArthur Park by Richard Harris from 1968 (Much better known for his acting accomplishments) Harper Valley P.T.A by Jeanie C. Riley from 1968 Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye by Steam from 1969 In the Year 2525 by Zager & Evans from 1969 And then there are the 1970's... A much longer list that I would recognize, I am sure. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)

JoeMo Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 <<SNIFF!!>> It usually makes people feel better about themselves when they can laugh at other people's shortcomings. If you think that's bad; I used to own vinyl by Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, too; but I have deeply repented. As long as I'm confessing my sins, I once won a disco dancing contest, too Quote
JoeMo Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 Great list, Tom! Did you have to google that, or did you just remember it? They say if you actually remember the 60's, you didn't participate ... just sayin' Quote
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted September 29, 2012 Administrators Posted September 29, 2012 No I found a site that had lists by decade of a whole bunch of one hit wonders. These are the ones I recognized and remembered. If I listened to them all I would recognize more. The 70's would likely be a much longer list for me. Gordon1 Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 On the other hand, I would rather those jingles had never taken a place in my head, and avoid them when I can. Many of them idolize illicit affection or promiscuity, along with drugs & alcohol, and sentimentalize lower passions. Especially degrading to women, and this degrades men as well. In this sense it's all soul music, putting a hook in one's soul. Hard to get unhooked. It's safe to say these tracks greatly shaped our culture, returning to sell us cars, pharmaceuticals and financial services. Many are hooked, but not by the Holy Fisher of men. Quote
Administrators Gail Posted September 30, 2012 Author Administrators Posted September 30, 2012 Believe me, some of those I wish I had never heard, either!! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted September 30, 2012 Author Administrators Posted September 30, 2012 Case in point- The Night Chicago Died. That one always made me feel like banging my head against a wall. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Guest Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 How about "Green-Eyed Lady" by Sugarloaf? Sugarloaf was not a one hit wonder. They had another hit called: "Don't Call Us, We'll Call You" Was one of my favorites. Quote
Guest Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 And let's not forget this one, if nobody has already mentioned it. 867-5309 Quote
