Moderators lazarus Posted October 15, 2012 Moderators Posted October 15, 2012 Lol. It's piece from the Daily Mail. Let have some context. Here are some headlines from the same "rag"........ Moderators lazarus Posted October 15, 2012 Moderators Posted October 15, 2012 Don't like results.Attack source. Too easy. G In your case Og, like the results, ignore the source. On its blog, the Met office refuted some of the key assertions made in the article. Would you now accept that this source is questionable at best? This might help you decide........... An article by David Rose appears today in the Mail on Sunday under the title: ‘Global warming stopped 16 years ago, reveals Met Office report quietly released… and here is the chart to prove it’ It is the second article Mr Rose has written which contains some misleading information, after he wrote an article earlier this year on the same theme. http://metofficenews.wordpress.com/ Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. Moderators Bravus Posted October 16, 2012 Moderators Posted October 16, 2012 This graph that shows last year was the hottest year ever on record, you mean? Quote Truth is important
Moderators Bravus Posted October 16, 2012 Moderators Posted October 16, 2012 Draw a proper trend line, taking *all* the data into account, on *any* of those graphs and it shows constant, though slower, warming since the mid-90s. What's the headline of this thread, again? Simply, objectively incorrect. Quote Truth is important
Moderators lazarus Posted October 16, 2012 Moderators Posted October 16, 2012 From the Met itself..... The linear trend from August 1997 (in the middle of an exceptionally strong El Nino) to August 2012 (coming at the tail end of a double-dip La Nina) is about 0.03°C/decade, amounting to a temperature increase of 0.05°C over that period, but equally we could calculate the linear trend from 1999, during the subsequent La Nina, and show a more substantial warming. As we’ve stressed before, choosing a starting or end point on short-term scales can be very misleading. Climate change can only be detected from multi-decadal timescales due to the inherent variability in the climate system. If you use a longer period from HadCRUT4 the trend looks very different. For example, 1979 to 2011 shows 0.16°C/decade (or 0.15°C/decade in the NCDC dataset, 0.16°C/decade in GISS). Looking at successive decades over this period, each decade was warmer than the previous – so the 1990s were warmer than the 1980s, and the 2000s were warmer than both. Eight of the top ten warmest years have occurred in the last decade. Over the last 140 years global surface temperatures have risen by about 0.8ºC. However, within this record there have been several periods lasting a decade or more during which temperatures have risen very slowly or cooled. The current period of reduced warming is not unprecedented and 15 year long periods are not unusual. Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. Einstein
BobRyan Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 You are looking at spikes - I was looking at the smoothed annual average - blue line that shows parity between the mid-to-late 1990's and recent years. Olger's chart makes the same statement. As for this year in my area "Mean temperatures were near normal to below normal across much of the Southeast region in August. The greatest departures were found across northern and extreme southern Florida, central sections of Alabama and Georgia, northern South Carolina, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, where monthly temperatures were between 1 and 2 degrees F (0.5 and 1.1 degrees C) below normal. Key West, FL, tied its lowest daily August maximum temperature of 81 degrees F (27.2 degrees C) on the 25th of the month (period of record 1872-2012). Over 200 daily low maximum temperature records were tied or broken in August across the Southeast, compared to only 30 high maximum temperature records." Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." COL 316.
BobRyan Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 BTW Bravus - your chart appears to show data going out to 2020 - how are they doing that? Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." COL 316.
CoAspen Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 If the warming has stopped.......why is the ice cap melting so rapidly? There is so much data manipulation going on that some people ignore the reality of what is happening to the weather world wide and all of the life that is being effected, in the water, in the air and on land. Whether it is a cycle or not, it is happening. But then, an Ostrich does have the best defense mechanism....pretend...pretend!! Quote
