12tribes Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Why don't you create a poll? Quote Galatians 3:29(29) And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted October 21, 2012 Administrators Posted October 21, 2012 The wide variety of answers beg the question - What is a theologian? In other words, how does one qualify to be considered a theologian? And then there is the subjectivity and definitional difficulty of "best" and "smartest"... That point is most evident in the diversity of opinions expressed here that seem, with only a few exceptions, to be more about identifying "favorites" or those with which one is most likely to agree. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
Gibs Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 If they don't speak the truth as it is plain in the Word there is no light in them is the only way to pick one you could recomend or hold out to others. Gibs Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Woody, It just shows that we have differing opinions. We shouldn't though I think you will agree, we read the same Word from our God. Yes there is a reason, we have one to contend with, hia angels and many men with him who also have words. We all don't sort them the same do we? 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Gibs Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 For true theology among men for an awful lot of yrs as to whether or not a theologian I don't know, but EGW is the one I read most of all and the scriptures, I take no real stock in the rest of men only as I find they agree with the Word and Sister White is proven over and over. We must test the teachings of all men, letters in front of their names mean nothing to me. Just because the majority holds one in esteem means nothing to me. EGW said "the truth, the truth. Folks forgive me but I must post this statement by her here, "I can write but little now. I have written so much for the last mail that I am too weary to write. In the night season I was speaking to you in the visions of my head upon by bed. I said that the company of believers were neglecting their God-given work. They have been in the condition which Christ represents by the salt without the savour. They need the Holy Spirit, and they will not have it unless they arouse themselves and do the works of Christ. They are to give to the world the light the Lord has given them. Unless they shall practise the truth, the truth will not sanctify their own souls nor the souls of others. With hearts full of earnestness and light they are to communicate to others the light given them. “I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.” {TSA 70.2} Here is your work — leading souls to the fountain of the water of life. All who have the truth in their own hearts as a living principle, an all-pervading influence, will have a living testimony to bear to those who are in the darkness of error. There is, thank God, an ever living Spirit to guide us into all truth. But it is to be communicated, not shut up to our own individual selves. This Spirit, who will guide us into all truth, must be made known to others, and will guide them. The Word, the precious Word, is to be eaten as the flesh of the Son of God. Let there be no listless, sleepy testimonies. {TSA 70.3} If ever there was a time when we needed faith and spiritual enlightenment, it is now. Those who are watching unto prayer and are searching the Scriptures daily with an earnest desire to know and do the will of God, will not be led astray by any of the deceptions of Satan. . . . We want the truth on every point. We want it unadulterated with error and unpolluted by the maxims, customs, and opinions of the world. We want the truth with all its inconvenience. The acceptance of truth ever involves a cross. But Jesus gave His life as a sacrifice for us, and shall we not give Him our best affections, our holiest aspirations, our fullest service? {HP 350.5} Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Gibs Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Yes Gibs - but you need a theologian to interpret what EGW is saying. Man, Woody, that'd be bad if I did! She speaks clearly to this ole fellow. olger Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 After the harsh meeting with Bell and other church leaders, and near the end of Tyndale's time at Little Sodbury, John Foxe describes an argument with a "learned" but "blasphemous" clergyman, who had asserted to Tyndale that, "We had better be without God's laws than the Pope's." Tyndale responded: "I defy the Pope, and all his laws; and if God spares my life, ere many years, I will cause the boy that driveth the plow to know more of the Scriptures than thou dost!" Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Woody Posted October 22, 2012 Author Posted October 22, 2012 All I know peeps - is that when I quote Ellen White - I get all these weird and harsh posts in return saying - "She didn't mean that" "You have to take context into account". "Time changed". "The meaning of words changed". "Well she meant it this way" My goodness - One needs to be a brainiactrical historlogical and theological nerd to be able to accurately get in her mind. Gibs Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Woody she knew the time would come that many would work to make the SOP writings of none effect. Woody Posted October 23, 2012 Author Posted October 23, 2012 Yes Gibs - I have noticed that exact thing being done when I try to quote her. So, it is tough. Each person has their own interpretation of her. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
