Gordon1 Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 What's the annual operating budget of the entire Canadian Union - salaries, churches, programs, camps, etc.? Quote
Stan Posted October 27, 2012 Author Posted October 27, 2012 What does that even matter? They usually do maintaining... pensions, legal advise, employee health care, leadership, governance etc etc Unions are not designed to be rainmakers.. individuals are.. and should Quote If you receive benefit to being here please help out with expenses. https://www.paypal.me/clubadventist Administrator of a few websites like https://adventistdating.com
Gordon1 Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 Let's phrase it another way Stan: How many individuals (full & part time) are on the Canadian payroll? And are you saying these are excluded from being 'rainmakers'? Quote
Stan Posted October 27, 2012 Author Posted October 27, 2012 I do not know how many are doing the functions that need to be done. What are you doing? Stan Posted October 27, 2012 Author Posted October 27, 2012 rarely do rainmakers come from institutions. Quote If you receive benefit to being here please help out with expenses. https://www.paypal.me/clubadventist Administrator of a few websites like https://adventistdating.com
Gordon1 Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 This is true Stan. Paul was a rainmaker, after he left his institution. If you want to inspire others to make rain, you may need to set the example yourself. It would be a brave move, but that is a Christian's calling. Then you will get rainmakers. Quote
Stan Posted October 27, 2012 Author Posted October 27, 2012 AND you will notice that Paul spent time building a movement, not trying to impersonate the old one, or even using the same name. The Adventist Church is a rainmaker, and we need rainmakers inside. Administrators Gail Posted October 27, 2012 Administrators Posted October 27, 2012 Reminds me of the CCM worship songs that pray for rain: "> " type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"> Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
LifeHiscost Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 rarely do rainmakers come from institutions. Perhaps it is informally ordered but I find the institution of the family of God, when they gather together for sharing in worship, one of the bulwarks of my family's continuing growth in grace. Even when, for various reasons, that venue might not be available for me as a 24/7 caregiver, my prayers for those in the body of believers is an aid to my recognition that even if I'm only a cuticle in the body of Christ, my looking forward to reuniting in the new creation is a constant source of spiritual renewal. And as I recall my experience in early motivation towards being a disciple of Christ, it was two individuals from the institution of literature evangelists who invited my family to join in worship with the institution of Seventh Day Adventists, a decision that has not been proven Biblically unsound. "I have other sheep, too, that are not in this sheepfold. I must bring them also. They will listen to my voice, and there will be one flock with one shepherd." John 10:16 NLT God blesses! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
LifeHiscost Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 Quote: Gail "So rejoice, O sons of Zion, And be glad in the LORD your God; For He has given you the early rain for your vindication. And He has poured down for you the rain, The early and latter rain as before."Joel 2:23 NASB God blesses! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
olger Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 This is a good thread: Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Neil D Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 If God wants it, and we act, why should not funding come? Tis a vicious cycle...if you want new ideas to get the funding, they have to have a proven track record....no track record, no funding...VOP is a case in point... Perhaps, if the institution were to finance small ideas, and do the tracking, we might get somewheres on our evangelism in North America.... Different church structures, open discussions, cafe church, schools for intellegent kids from average familys, et al... Just thinking outside my limited box... JoeMo Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Gail, Great song - I love it! I took out my guitar and learned it. Plan on using it it worship next Sabbath! Quote
Administrators Gail Posted October 28, 2012 Administrators Posted October 28, 2012 Mark Johnson used to say that Adventists are good at starting things but not so good at maintaining them. The problem is that the people who start projects have a vision. In order for the project to continue the ones who take up the torch must also have vision. Much of the time a thing will die out with its founder. With our generation of short-term attention spans that thrives on the new, I don't know how in idea will have longevity like it used to. Come, Lord Jesus! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted October 28, 2012 Administrators Posted October 28, 2012 But on second thought, perhaps that might not be a bad thing. We just need to keep current and innovative. Ideas change, but the yearning in people's hearts for peace and acceptance will always be there. God's remedy for souls is timeless. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Gordon1 Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 It's unlikely Christian Rainmakers would be tolerated within the organization. Why? Because their predecessors were not welcomed by the politically correct organization. Never have been. Think of all the old prophets - many were slain between the porch and the altar for heralding truth. The organization is comfortable ("lukewarm") with its condition and agitation will only raise hackles. The Whites, Jones & Waggoner - these were progressive Christians, but rejected by the church proper. David Gates is a mover & shaker, but had to do his rainmaking outside the SDA Church due to strong opposition of his unorthodox methods. So in one sense I can agree with Stan - rainmakers are needed within the Church. But I doubt they would be tolerated for long. Quote
JoeMo Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 I tend to think all of us are rainmakers whether we are conscious of it or not. There are two types of rain we can make - "showers of blessing" or devastating, destructive floods. Quote
whatisthis Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 I like that Joemoe! That first kind of rain you mentioned, the blessing kind, comes from the Spirit. Is praying for the Spirit actually praying to be a rainmaker? Quote more later
