Guest Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 By Jerald Taylor: Our republic, in its current form, cannot continue forever. The old adage that once the peasants learn that they can vote themselves bread is rapidly proving itself to be true. Any but a fool can see that no government can continually spend more than it takes in can last. We can see it… the fools can’t. The point is that we must desperately attempt to educate them before they run the entire American experiment into the ground. Otherwise we will go the way of Greece, into insolvency, massive inflation and turmoil. Whenever enlightened people gain control of our government or in the next republic, if it comes to that, the vote must be restricted to those who pay taxes (which will be most people) and the government should be required to balance its budget except in time of declared war. The idea that all men are created equal and should therefore be able to vote is baloney. All men should be treated fairly and with compassion, but only those who pay some amount of tax, regardless how small, actually have some skin in the game and should be able to decide how much they are willing to spend. Government should be limited to military, judicial, police, education, maintenance of public parks, regulation of commerce, infrastructure and very few other things, none of which should include charitable purposes, regardless how worthy. Unemployed persons who want money from the government should be given something called a “job” performing projects related to some purpose within the governmental functions, similar to the Work Projects Administration or Civilian Conservation Corps of the depression era. Those who are truly unable to support themselves should be objects of charity. Anyone who believes that other things “ought to be done” should feel free to donate their own money toward the causes which they espouse. That would result in much greater efficiency, as we would not waste money fighting over those things which one group or another wants to force others to fund. http://conservativebyte.com/2012/11/shou.../#ixzz2BpwusFyD Quote
bonnie Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 I would be very happy to see some new guidelines on voting. If you do not pay federal taxes, you don't vote. The amount should not be a factor but you should at lease pay something or forfeit the vote. Kind of silly to think of those demanding federal dollars and voting themselves a raise at the expense of those that do Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman
bonnie Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Exactly! Maybe if they would stop to consider that God had a pretty unbeatable plan. 10% period.Trash the many deductions and all the other nonsense. If I purchase a house why should I have other taxpayers helping with that,If I can't afford the house without the tax deduction, perhaps I shouldn't be buying a house. If I can't afford my children without the child tax credits it may have been a good idea not to have them. Personally I would love to see a 10% rate for every wage earner and the only allowable deductions would be that for business and charities as that is money that does not go into your personal bank account for your own use Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman
OzarkWoman Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Ya know, back when the country was first going under the new constitution only landowners were allowed to vote. Quote
bonnie Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 I am preparing a genealogy book for my grandchildren for Christmas. It is so interesting to compare today with what we are dealing with and then. And before anyone goes off and running about wanting people to starve it is the attitude. Somewhere we lost something very essential. My paternal grandparents lost everything in the depression as many did. They had a small piece of property 200 miles north. They were left with a hay wagon, two horses,a cow and some chickens and a small dilapidated chicken coop. They loaded the hay wagon and walked every step of that two hundred miles. My grandmother redid the chicken coop into a home from salvaged lumber from other abandoned properties. My older brother was born in the converted chicken coop and my other brothers and I teased him endlessly about being hatched like a chicken. My grandmother rummaged wherever she could for discarded clothing, sweaters and scarves.Took them apart and made new.It went a long way in clothing various members of the family. A story concerning a extended, extended connection to our family was a family of seven children that lived thru the worst of the depression in a abandoned bus.The social services of that time became involved and made noises about removing the children. Their report was a little humorous when you read it today. The children had "comely manners, appeared to be washed" "clothing was worn and faded but patches were applied with a meticulous and fine hand",have made suitable provisions for wood heat' melting snow serves the families cleanliness needs" Compare that ATTITUDE with many of those living in far better living conditions in subsidized housing today. They are excused because they are poor. My grandparents worked at whatever they could get. They were never technically hungry but supper might be the same as breakfast and lunch had been.No fast food or food stamps. Regardless if it was a nickel or a quarter they were able to tuck away, after tithe that came before anything else. If that attitude could have been maintained along with our current federal assistance how much better off would everyone be? Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman
bonnie Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 As for our voting mess, extensions for this group and provisions for that group. My maternal grandparents lived in the same area.Their farm was reached by roads that carried warning signs. In bad weather travel at your own risk.More than once they went to vote with heated bricks and blankets and braving rainstorms that turned the roads to mucky clay. But vote they would ATTITUDE,ATTITUDE,ATTITUDE. No I would not want to see that today Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. I don't know anyone that doesn't pay taxes. That does not mean that they federal income taxes and that happens to be what bonnie is talking, at least that is the way I understand it. That sounds like the excuses people use for allowing illegals' children to attend our schools that WE pay for and not them. Quote

That is the old standby argument.OW,if you support me I will pay taxes with your money that you give me.Great.I will be very happy to pay my phone tax with your money.Wait a minute tho,if I am on assistance you are already paying for my phone and phone tax.I can pay gas tax when I fill up with your money Little different to pay taxes with money you actually earn by labor. Many college students. Many clergy. Many senior citizens on social security would also lose their right to vote. Those in the military serving in a combat zone are not taxed on their pay. And even a few rich people pay no income taxes. I am not just talking about the "working poor" If college students understood a little of the adult world there wouldn't be those intellectual children asking "What is a Benghazi" and when asked why they were voting Obama they would be able to say something, not get this glazed look in their eyes and speak like Obama does when someone takes away his teleprompter. Why should any clergy be exempt? I am talking about all who don't pay federal income tax. From those that live off the labor of others right down the line with the exception of the military. If you happen to be "working" in a place where you can get your head blown off any minute you are paying the ultimate in federal income tax. As for senior citizens include them.I am one.Senior citizens are another special group that must be courted and smoozed,if you don't please that non paying group they can keep a candidate from office Yes if the rich are not paying federal tax they should not vote either. And even a few rich people pay no income taxes. Of course that is not what she is saying at all. Me, I would just like to have everyone take a small test before being allowed to vote. Too many in this country can't even name their own senators and reps. They should at least have a modicom of knowledge about how this country works and the constitution and such. Quote
bonnie Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 We have all these special little groups that can have such a great impact on an election. The needs of this one is this and there is that one we have to cater to. Why should clergy for example vote if they don't pay federal taxes. College students that most are going on with borrowed taxpayer money vote for there free phones, birth control and foodstamps that others pay for. Senior citizens are somewhat different in that they have spent their entire working years paying into federal income tax. We not only exempt the working poor but pay them a reward for having children thru the child tax credit. Anyone that benefits in that way has their own little group that must be courted.Doesn't do much for a president that wants the same for all. Freedoms, available jobs, college if you pay for it,the ability to have a decent home and care for your family.A reasonable and short term safety net for those that can work and take care of themselves That pretty well covers it,but a president is usually voted in,especially in a tight election by prostituting himself Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. That goes for plenty of the Republican voters also. Quote

OzarkWoman Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Tom, everyone knew what she meant. All of us make typos in the forums and on the net. The fact that you felt the need to point out such a trivial thing shows just how small you are. Such a shame. Quote
