Will the real Romans 8:1 please stand up!

So according to you, yes - there's condemnation to those who are not living Christ's life, right?

But Paul, after writing of the struggling sinner whose faith is in Christ, states that "there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus". So either Paul is lying or you are!

Doesn't that just bring it down to what "In Christ Jesus" means? I'm sure you think it means doing your own thing, as long as you claim Jesus is your saviour. right?

I know you wouldn't word it that way, but that's basically what your theology is, when you boil it down.

As usual you spin off into a round of name-calling at the mere quote of Bible texts that do not agree with your preferences.

Why keep doing that?

Yeah Robert, why?

In Romans 8 Paul does not say "there is no condemnation to those in rebellion against the Law of God".

In Romans 8 Paul says that those who are lost are enslaved to sinning and they "do not subject themselves to the Law of God neither indeed CAN they" - Rom 8:7.

What part of this is hard to get?

having said that - I do not believe that the saints are lost each time they sin - and so have to be re-converted again.

As John says in 1John 2:1 - "these things I write to you that you sin not - but if anyone does sin we have an advocate with the father".

When Peter asks to be washed head-to-toe Jesus says that the one who has washed once - only needs to have their feet washed. We are informed that this is a reference to Baptism and then to subsequent foot washing - recognizing the need for continued forgiveness of sins that we have committed. So not re-conversion, but continued forgiveness.

Yet even this does not proclaim the "non-stop rebellion gospel" of some.

I think Rob fails to see the difference between rebellion/living-in-sin and obeying from the heart but still falling short.

Romans 8:31-39 also gives me great confidence that nothing - not even my sin or my unworthiness - can separate me from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

But Joe, how do you reconcile your statement with this?

ESV | ‎Is 59:2 but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.

With statements like:

For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! (Rom. 5:10)

All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation (2Cor. 5:18)

But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation (Col. 1:22)

In some models - sin is not stoppable no matter the Word of God and power of God, New Covenant, New Birth - to the contrary.

In that model every breath you take is sinful - no matter that you are born-again saint with the Law of God written on the mind and heart. Thus - no escaping non-stop sinning until you die or the 2nd coming. That means the very idea of "obedience" is at best "a relative term" -- like fish talking about "drying out" - it is not going to happen while they are swimming in water.

Thus nobody really obeys - at most they sin less.
