A friend's company ordered to stop work today..

Well, we've managed to find two sensible solutions so far. Great minds think!

Couple clarifications. This crane company has worked for the college before (three times). This is the first time that the woman got in an uproar over the "men working" sign.

Three hundred yards away, I-75 is under a major reconstruction operation at the route 35 interchange. The construction corridor is laced with "men working" signs.

The fellow who quit is quoted as saying "this is the last straw." There must be a history. And he wasn't just a laborer. He was the project foreman, and a good one.

It cost the crane company thousands of dollars to have a $500,000 piece of equipment mobilized on the jobsite, and just sitting idle. There were also a lot of men (yes men) who were made idle at a tremendous cost (when the weather was perfect and we are running out of good construction weather in ohio). I know this, because my company just finished installing a new roof on the tallest skyscraper in dayton (couple blocks away). Sinclair college is in the shadow of the Kettering Tower, and we were all trying to get the projects done in this last good week.

There are no other signs readily available, they usually have to be ordered. Vandalia Equipment rental only had men "working signs." Even the ultra-liberal politically correct college didn't have gender inclusive LOL construction signs. And the sign was correct, there were men working until the ridiculous man-hater made the project stop. The sign was also a safety issue. Were there to be an accident with pedestrians, lawyers would be quick to blame the crane contractor for not having adequate warning signs. You can't win..

I believe the real issue here is that political-correctness is a religion for this woman, and she is propagating forced evangelism. Forerunner of the beast power...

Blessins to all,

It does sound like there must have been a "history".

Does the I-75 reconstruction operation have a contract with the college?

Now would be a good time to order new signs so that none are offended in the future.

Why would a college have construction signs to use?

Just tagging onto Cricket's questions.

Why does a construction company only have "men working" signs? No "hard hat area", "under construction", etc.?

Why did the contract not have a delay clause?

Neal Boortz told the story today on his radio show.

Dayton channel 2 reporter called me yesterday trying to get the scoop. Told her to call the crane company..

Channel 7 was down at the college with cameras yesterday interviewing anyone who would talk - about the incident.

It's always enlightening to read the comments sections under Internet articles. Although many of the comments posted elsewhere are not repeatable here, I thought I might just spend a moment recapping some of the descriptive language from this Christian thread:

This topic reminds me of my friend's encounter.

He went up to the receptionist desk in a doctor's office. The receptionist gruffly said, "I'll be with you in a moment. Take a seat."

He could see that she was "busy", so he took a seat. The receptionist went from one thing to another and 15 minutes passed.

My friend went back to the receptionist, who said, "Keep you seat, and I will be with you in a minute."

My friend replied, "I came to fix your copy machine. My time started when I entered that door. If you want to continue to pay me $100 an hour to sit and wait on you I will wait."

The receptionist made time for him immediately. (She apparently had thought he was a walk in or a salesman and she had brushed him off until she was made aware that she had misjudged the situation.)

The person who stopped the construction work got her 5-minutes of fame, but didn't do any more for her employer than the "busy receptionist."

Great point cricket, than we wonder why some don't want anything to do with Christians, because where not any different than those that don't claim to be Christian, let alone SDA Christian.

“She” female

Man hater (she is)

Liberals are too stupid (some aint too bright - that's for sure).

Liberal Morons (stopping work for this purpose is indeed stupid). Perhaps you think she did the right thing).

Asinine (INDEED)

Unfriendly (ok)

Kindred politically-correct spirit (Absolutely).

Seemed evil (words of a young anabaptist man)

The Devil herself (words of a union pipefitter who just got out of a meeting with "her")

Ridiculous man-hater (man hating is just as ridiculous as woman hating).

Forerunner of the beast power (You betcha. See Great Controversy, chapter 35).

I wish I had gotten a photo, but this morning as I was heading to drop off my car for a maintenance check I passed by a sign at a construction site that said,

"Slow down! My mommy works here"

I've seen a few signs that say: "Work Area," "Hard Hat Area." and of course old reliable: "Men Working."

That sounds like a politically-correct emotional appeal fostered by an illogical partisan left who clings stubbornly to the idea that it is possible to pick up a feces by the clean end.

On the surface, political correctness sounds ludicrous. And it is. In this strange muddled world the homeless are called under-housed and pirates are called seafaring entrepreneurs, the bald are folically–challenged and the fat are horizontally gifted.

But at a deeper level, it is an ideology at war with the Biblical principle of honesty. For many, it has already become their religion and "evangelism" is accomplished by force and control (see Great Controversy chapter 35, a wonderfully straightforward book).

And some seem obsessed with a their own counter religion of insensitivity, stubbornly perfecting the art of superiority and rudeness. Ironically, their professed criticism of the hyper-sensitivity of political correctness is expressed by their own hyper-sensitivity to political correctness. In the end it is simply an expression of their view of the correctness of their own political point of view.

A Capitalist would start making these "Crew working" signs and charging a "special order fee".

A Communist would declare the business owner an enemy of the state, imprison the owner, put the workers on welfare, and then borrow the money to start a bureaucracy to make sure that no other business was allowing "men at work" signage.
