(BTW, I corresponded with him, and always found him to be a gentleman and a scholar. Literally.)

Yes, he was also very kind, or he would never have been able to sell so many books. And he actually did me some kind favors.

There were no rude questions asked. Only questions to clarify what he was saying. Repeatedly I pulled his sleeve to get his attention. When I got it and asked him to pay attention to the questions asked, he'd say:

- Yes, yes, but still keep on talking about his pet ideas in a way that nobody could understand.

In writing it was a lot easier to get through to Sam.

I am only stating this to show what kind of personality one was dealing with.

This might give an insight to understanding his changing hermeneutics, which have made such a great impact on many Seventh-day Adventist, and remains widely today.

I can assure you there are two sides to that story. Unfortunately, we can no longer get his side of it. That he seems a little distracted when he has people all around vying for his attention doesn't seem all that unusual. Perhaps he was a better writer because it allowed him to focus more without a lot of distraction. I miss his End-Time Newsletters and wish there was another scholar of his caliber to pick up where he left off even if I didn't agree with every single one of his views.

I only mentioned this to show that I had personal dealings with Sam Bacchiocchi, and I corresponded with him, including telling him why that interview was never published. The newspaper was not interested in his personal views or perspectives, but wanted that interesting story that a Seventh-day Adventist college professor had a gold medal from the pope on a dissertation about the Sabbath and the change to Sunday. Sam did not want to give this woman any replies to her questions. Perhaps he had his own reasons?

But our main concern here is the hermeneutics introduced to the Seventh-day Adventist church by Samuelle Bacchiocchi which seems to be the reason we have this disagreement about the male headship. I would say that his hermeneutics have never been officially accepted by the Seventh-day Adventist church, although some people think so. When you use his hermeneutics both the Bible and the writings of Ellen White are read in a different light and look different. To them that even seems to change the context.

I might add that the journalist called me after that "interview" and explained to me that the story could not be used because of Sam's unwillingness to answer the questions she asked him. She added that she was very grateful for all the interesting SDA people I had brought her in the past for interviews which had been published in the paper. This included a former Roman Catholic acting bishop who had then been a SDA missionary in Africa.

Pastor Kirkpatrick used to be the pastor of the Mentone SDA church, about 15 miles east of Loma Linda. I think he left there about 2 years ago.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Perhaps any further discussion should end on this very positive note!! Surely this is as newsworthy as any WO debate!!

PS. Potluck at Woody's next Sabbath!!
