It must attach itself to something else to survive. Trisha Famisaran is an assistant professor of Religion and Philosophy at La Sierra, the "HMS Richards School of Theology." You will note that Ryan Bell at the Hollywood church has adopted the liturgical calendar and this is Lent, time to repent of our sins. You'll also hear that at the Hollywood church they're referring to God as "mother" now. In the bulletin, Ryan Bell has quoted Anaïs Nin the French-born authoress most famous for her erotica, and Trisha quotes her approvingly in the sermon. Her other sources are Job, as interpreted by a Benedictine nun, Joan Chittister, and Lady Gaga, a pop star noted for raunchy lyrics, whom Famisaran sites as authority that God made gays gay. HMS Richards would drive these people from a building bearing his name if he were here today. Or probably just remove his name. G Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Gibs Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Yes I know old HMS Richard Sr. would have, but of the son I don't know, seems to me he slipped in the true theology of more than one thing. Will the church turn around with such promoting the theolgy. If it does it will be a death blow to present day Adventism! 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. G Well, this is sort of nitpicking, but you know how we "liberals" are.... Her sermon title doesn't use the term heterosexuality. It uses the word heterosexism which means: discrimination in favor of heterosexual and against homosexual people. Now, I know the difference is slight, but she isn't saying repent of your heterosexuality, but of holding the idea that heterosexuality is how God created us to be, and that homosexuality is a perversion of God's intention for all of us with regards to sexuality. In other words she's saying repent of holding the Biblical view of sexuality, not of being a heterosexual. I find it hard to tell which is a more unBiblical position. olger Posted March 10, 2013 Author Posted March 10, 2013 I like the light you shed on the definition of 'discrimination' Joeb. It reminds me of the two biblical meanings of judgement. Discernment and condemnation !! g Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted March 10, 2013 Administrators Posted March 10, 2013 So if we can find any definition of the word we are free to use it indiscriminately... or the good judgment to know when it's not... Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
CoAspen Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Quote: So God made people at variance with His own word? Be careful there, you are making God the author of sin. That is my point! Christians want to make God the author of some 'sins' but not others! Trials and tribulations are not in the 'sin condition' category? Yes, I have often heard disease and sickness put into the 'T & T' category! But back to the topic........ Quote: I never realized it was 'liberal' to repent of discrimination or prejudice. Quote
Administrators debbym Posted March 10, 2013 Administrators Posted March 10, 2013 I am surprised the sda conference over this church has not done something. ryan bell has a long history of issues, these developments cannot be really surprising. i can imagine this congregation being displaced from church property, maybe they are in avoidance of ugly publicity. to compare the sufferings of Christ to the suffering a woman may have endured because she is female is well... really sad. like saying if you have suffered anything in this sinful world, you have shared Christ's suffering... sorry this denies the nature of the suffering of Christ. Quote deb Love awakens love. Let God be true and every man a liar.
Windsor Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 I wish I could find the text in the Bible that says it's ok to sin if the sin is too hard to overcome. Sure would make things a lot easier that way and would make grace abound even more! Quote Remember Adventists Online?

Gibs Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 To discriminate between what is right and what is wrong one must have the Holy Spirit and all others crucified within. Only God is Good and so we need Him, His Spirit in us to discern right from wrong. And Know God is Spirit, Jesus told us so, John 4:24. Christ in us us that Spirit, as the Father dwelt in Him Fully. Christ in you is the Father in you. Eph 4:6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. olger Posted March 11, 2013 Author Posted March 11, 2013 I would only add this Gibs: "How that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work" (1 Timothy 3:15-17). Gibs Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 So much has come in through La Sierra that it is vital we look well into what is put out there! This thread is a wake up call to that! 1Jo 4:1 ¶ Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Trying all things to the True Word of God! 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. olger Posted March 11, 2013 Author Posted March 11, 2013 Amen. La Sierra recently named their economic center the "Edward C. Allred Center for Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurship." In 1980, Dr. Allred bragged to have performed a quarter-million abortions. Christianity Today picked up on the story and ran this article on the debacle on February 4. http://blog.christianitytoday.com/ctlive...bortionist.html La Sierra is bringing shame on the Seventh-day Adventist people. JoeMo Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Why can't we just agree that "if you are not gay or lesbian, never enter into a homosexual relationship." The Bible seems to indicate that homosexual BEHAVIOR is a sin. I've never read that attraction to the same gender is a sin. I know a few people in the church who are former practicing homosexuals; and are now in healthy heterosexual relationships. The are still afflicted with temptation, though. But I think we can all agree that temptation is not sin unless you give into the temptation. And when we do sin: Quote: we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.(1John 2:2-12) Quote
olger Posted March 11, 2013 Author Posted March 11, 2013 Temptation to sin is not sin. On that we agree. Choosing to sin by indulging in lust is very much sin and will result in eternal loss if not repented of and forsaken. Praise the Lord for His ability to deliver people from the lion of lust ("Is your God whom you serve able to deliver you from...?" Daniel 6:20). If heterosexual marriage is to display to the world the beauty and holy character of His relationship with His bride, then homosexuality is the sacrament of paganism. M. T. Cross Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 If heterosexual marriage is to display to the world the beauty and holy character of His relationship with His bride, then homosexuality is the sacrament of paganism. olger Posted March 11, 2013 Author Posted March 11, 2013 Lust is the sacrament of paganism. Homosexuality is the sacrament of one-ism. Loving as Christ loved the Church and married for life is the sacrament of Biblical marriage. peace, G Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
M. T. Cross Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Oh lust is now? Hmm......... odd to me then that there are so many deities of marriage as well. Seems to me you base your whole view of paganism on ancient Roman and Greek models, which oddly enough are the birthplace of Christianity. Quote
