bonnie Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Good questions. Something to think about. in Christ, Bob The problem with the questions is those that support gay marriage or at the least claim we can't discriminate refuse to answer. If a man wants three wives, what is the problem? It would not directly impact my marriage and I am sure there are many decent people that claim to or think they love all three women. What right would I have to deny them? If gay marriage is legalized and I believe it will be,then I don't have any problem with the legalizing of plural marriages Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. joeb Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I've come out in favor of bigotry marriage because my wife's uncle is a bigot. I don't want to be seen as unloving towards him so I have decided in need to celebrate the marriage of two bigots.... How about, I've come out in favor of theft because thieves are discriminated against? How about, I've come out in favor of murder because murderers are discriminated against? How about, I've come out in favor of corruption because those who are corrupt are looked down upon? Does anyone see where I'm going with this? How about, we are to love the sinner and hate the sin? Just because I accept a person does not mean I need to accept non-scriptural behavior on their part. Should I just accept the behavior that comes from meanness, cruelty, hatred, bigotry, etc... in myself because I need to be tolerant of myself? If I shouldn't tolerate that in myself why should I tolerate the corresponding behavior in others? All that said, I don't look at gays and feel revulsion, hatred, etc.... I just think a little discrimination, in its good sense, is needed here. Sin is sin, no matter what the behavior involved. And I have to say I have a whole lot less tolerance for bigots, thieves, murderers, liars, etc... than I do for homosexuals. Members phkrause Posted March 21, 2013 Members Posted March 21, 2013 Excellent post joeb, especially: How about, we are to love the sinner and hate the sin? I've said that in a number of posts throughout these threads. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
bonnie Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Excellent post joeb, especially: How about, we are to love the sinner and hate the sin? I've said that in a number of posts throughout these threads. Unfortunately many determine hate when it is not. Being opposed to something automatically makes you suspect as a hate monger. Look throughout this forum,if you do not support gay marriage you are a bigot and homophobic. If you are pro-life you do not care for those already born. If you believe that our welfare system is broken beyond repair you want children to starve. If you believe as a SDA the ten commandments are relevant today you are a legalist. If you are a conservative SDA somehow that gets tied in with long dresses and certain types of hymns, whatever they are. If you have a problem with certain programs in our schools you are denigrating teachers universally. The only given acceptable way to not show hate is to accept anything and everything, except that which says "I don't believe in this" then of course tolerance and love go out the window Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. BobRyan Posted March 22, 2013 Author Posted March 22, 2013 Very good point. Just making the claim that it is now "inconvenient" to stand up for what God calls truth and righteousness - does not make it right abandon such principles. Inconvenience was never the lasting test of the validity of truth and right. It is just the popular one. Those who confuse popularity with a lasting standard for right and wrong will always find a great disappointment awaiting. Give me the Bible AND the Words IN the Bible. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." COL 316.

Good point. The idea of spinning all opposition to the destruction of marriage and affirming the Bible definition - as just being "hate mongering" is a transparent trick - intended to appeal to those not inclined to pay paying attention to the details. in Christ Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." Ted Oplinger Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Agreed, Bob. Blessings, Quote "As iron sharpens iron, so also does one man sharpen another" - Proverbs 27:17 "The offense of the cross is that the cross is a confession of human frailty and sin and of inability to do any good thing. To take the cross of Christ means to depend solely on Him for everything, and this is the abasement of all human pride. Men love to fancy themselves independent. But let the cross be preached, let it be made known that in man dwells no good thing and that all must be received as a gift, and straightway someone is offended." Ellet J. Waggoner, The Glad Tidings "Courage is being scared to death - and saddling up anyway" - John Wayne "The person who pays an ounce of principle for a pound of popularity gets badly cheated" - Ronald Reagan
bonnie Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Agreed, Bob. Blessings, The tendency to adjust your beliefs, especially when it concerns your children is very common. Many reasons can be found "why this time" your beliefs aren't as important as you thought they were and are adjustable. Just another way in the continuing trend to make God in our image instead of the other way around. You can see that throughout this forum. To hold fast to a belief makes you a narrow minded legalist. As if some "really out of the box" thinking should take priority and become the new norm. If "lesbian bondage" seminars in public institutions are objected to it is done out of ignorance. If you do not agree that "any old thing(belief) is good enough for the Lord, you are one of those "right wingers" that drive people from the church. Drug addicts, prostitutes etc have primarily one group that bears the burden of their lifestyles. Ask any "non-judgmental liberal" The non-judgmental crowd is so busy judging those that disagree with them, they neglect to look closer to home at their own continual judging of others Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make.
