Administrators Gail Posted March 28, 2013 Administrators Posted March 28, 2013 Gregory, I'm waiting with bated breath to see you enlarge on where you are headed with what EGW meant by secret vice. *cheeks puffed up and face going red* Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
ClubV12 Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Ha Ha, you know, there is counsel that this is a subject "not one in ten" of our MINISTERS are equiped to talk about. Great caution in time and place is warranted so as, and this is what she meant in my opinion, that the cause of health reform will not be injured. Obviously a big controversial subject. I will add this and wait for Gregorys take on the subject. "Secret sin", the term, to me encompasses a wide variety of issues and may not always be solitary. "Solitary vice", on the other hand, is a bit narrower in it's scope. Quote

Please begin to breathe. I do not intend to state publicly what some others think was EGWs reference. I do not want to get that discussion going which would draw many comments. My major point is not what EGW actually meant. It is that sometimes we need to study what she said in depth and we should not simply make a simplistic observation without the in-depth study. As a second part, we should not simply reject people who maly disagree with us as being those who seek for ways to evade her counsel. Quote Gregory
ClubV12 Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Gregory says, "As a second part, we should not simply reject people who maly disagree with us as being those who seek for ways to evade her counsel." This is really an important point Gregory and I'm glad you mentioned it. It has also been my experience that is fundamentally what legalists and fanatics do. It is the other side of the coin to finding an excuse to avoid the counsel through the use of context. I am ever seeking to not only find the balance in all things but learn how to communicate that without falling into either of the ditches on both sides of the narrow path. It aint easy and is impossible without maintaining a close connection with Christ as the eb and flow of life go on minute by minute. The minute I fall away from that, I fall into a ditch. I also concur with your idea that this is not the time or place for an indepth discussion on the topic of "secret sin" and other similiar issues that are close to it. Quote
Administrators Gail Posted March 28, 2013 Administrators Posted March 28, 2013 I like that, too, what Gregory said about balance. There is something to be said for keeping common sense about us! AND I think that EGW was a common sense person. The more I read about her life and the circumstances around certain testimonies the more I am convinced of that. joeb Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 What is so tough about defining "secret vice"? It is some sin, it doesn't matter what it is, that a person has been able to keep other humans from knowing about. It doesn't matter if it's related to sex, appetite, or whatever.
