Three words, American, Free and Independent, are all that is needed in a Title, Website, OpEd or Blog, to grab the attention. For many, way to many, all further thought as too truth, accountability or veracity is not needed. It is not a new idea but has exploded in to use and become more acceptable with the politics of the last numbers of years. Even mainline media in its desire for readership and headlines will quote from such sources. Scientific thought and work has taken a beating in the conservative arena when threats are seen in the economy or religious systems. Truth seems to be a word that now has to be always challenged and defined because of the various reality's that people choose to live in. Relative truth is the norm even by those that claim absolute truth is their guide!

I don't see how you come to that conclusion about what CoAspen said. I understood him to not be say whether or not there is an objective external truth, but rather that relativism is very much alive and well even among those who do firmly believe in and claim that there is an objective external truth, an absolute truth. It is just that they are loathe to admit it or recognize it in their own ideology and practice.

Good point DaVID. For instance, the many ideological ACGW devotees who cling stubbornly to the notion that the earth is some sort of deity.

As to "relative truth", auto-developed subjective truth is not truth at all. In fact, the whole idea makes Jesus an inconsistent Savior for it is He who claimed to be Truth personified. Truth is a property of assertions that correspond to the real world.

If you would like to incorporate relativistic thinking into your life, go ahead. People can believe what they want..

You've missed it - I was describing and clarifying, not advocating. On the contrary, I am someone who cares deeply about truth and is not relativistic about it.
