Hair Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 You got that right! I appreciate him and that's cool. He's done well it seems. However, one time there was this new preacher who was all fired-up and he went to his first church assignment and it was a cold snowing day and no one showed up for service. He waited around and finally about 20 minutes late one old SDA farmer strolled in thru the snow for Sabbath service and sat on the front pew... he was it. The new little preacher said, "Well, do you think I should still preach?" The old farmer said, "Well, if I went out with a wagon of hay to feed and only one old cow showed up I'd still feed him." So the little preacher lit in to a fiery sermon and rambled on for over two hours and finally he looked down at the old farmer and asked, "Well, how am I doing?" The old farmer said, "I said I'd feed that one cow... but I wouldn't make him eat the whole wagon. I'm going home!" Quote
8thdaypriest Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Wow! Nice lively debate. There is a study at my website titled "The Book of Life." Since I don't want to cut and paste the whole thing here, I will just invite you to go to my website: www.prophecyviewpoint.com. I'm sure you can cut some of my comments from there to counter with your own arguments. RE: The types are not indicative of how long events last. REALLY? The lamb was chosen on the 10th of Nissan. Jesus was marked for death at the triumphal entry on the 10th. Four days later on Nissan 14, He was nailed to the tree and died at the time foretold - 3PM. On the Feast of First Fruits, He rose from the dead and was presented in Heaven. On Pentecost, He was glorified as High Priest and poured out His Spirit upon His waiting disciples. Isn't that day for day???? Interesting point: The Pharisees and the Sadducees had a disagreement over which day should be the Feast of First Fruits. The Pharisees said it was the day after the Feast of Unleavened Bread (so Nissan 16). The Sadducees said it was the day that followed the first 7th day Sabbath that followed Passover - sooooo - a Sunday, not necessaily the 16th. Now - the ONLY way for the LORD to get all of the Pharisees and ALL of the Sadducees in the Temple at the same day for Pentecost, was if Passover fell on a Friday. THAT is the strongest argument against the teaching of a Wednesday or Thursday crucifixion. And all of THAT is BECAUSE the Spring types were fulfilled day for day - event for event. The LORD does have a sense of humor. If you line up the appointed times with the events, you see that if Christ was crucified on a Wednesday (the 14th) and you back up four days to the 10th, that puts the triumphal entry on a Sabbath. But there is no objection at all from the Pharisees about its being Sabbath, and why is he riding an animal on the Sabbath, something strictly forbidden, or why has he journeyed 2 miles from Bethany on the Sabbath. If you put the crucifixion on a Thursday, then the triumphal entry would be on a Sunday, but the problem with that scenario is that Christ journeyed 12 miles UPHILL from Jericho to Bethany the day before the triumphal entry - something an observant Jew would NEVER have done. I think you get my drift. Day for day is VERY important when we are talking about the appointed times. Abraham fed the visitors unleavened bread - and four hundred thirty years later - "to the day" - Israel left Egypt on the Feast of Unleavened Bread. That means the LORD visited Abraham on "an appointed time." www.prophecyviewpoint.com Blessings Rachel Quote 8thdaypriest
8thdaypriest Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 I am trying to reply to joeb's question asking why sin has been so successful. I haven't learned how to do those nice boxes and copy from your post to my post. The Bible just calls it "a mystery". There is NO logical reason. God chose to create beings with free will, which means that HE knew the possibility existed that they would choose selfishness. That's what sin is basically. He says that "in all their affliction He was afflicted." So He has felt ALL of the pain - from the very beginning. Wow! Knowing that he would feel the pain - he chose to created beings with free will. He really wanted a family!! Now - it depends on how you define successful. Two-thirds stayed loyal. That might be defined as a win. WHY did Eve sin? Because she was deceived - by the snake. That's what it says. Adam sinned because He could not bear to live without Eve. He chose EVE over the LORD. But THAT is the reason why they were given probation. I think you are asking WHY will sin not rise up again. How can we be assured of this, unless God is going to use the easy button, and instantly install a perfection chip into our brains. I can only tell you how I see it. You know the REASON that people who have survived alcohol addiction give for NOT going back to drink? It is because they know the PAIN of withdrawal, and do NOT EVER want to go through THAT again. All of us, who survive this painful process ("great tribulation") will NEVER want to go through that again. Hence we will NOT even think of sinning again. After Gog-Magog, (See Ezekiel 39:11-16)special teams of people are assigned to gather up all the bones of those who died by the fire of God. It takes 7 months to clean up the weapons and remains. The bones are taken to a valley named Hammon Gog, where a memorial is set up at a City named Hamonah (meaning multitude). See - I don't think the LORD plans to wipe out our memory of what happened. THAT memory is what will keep the universe safe from sin for eternity. We remember what sin costs. The memorial is to remind us - in case we forget the cost of sin after we have spent a few million years in a wonderful kingdom. Quote 8thdaypriest
Hair Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 If we do day for day exactly as you say we must, then the Day of Atonement was fulfilled back during the year that Jesus died and has no future fulfillment at all. Quote
8thdaypriest Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 If you see the calendar as linear, then yes. But the calendar was a circle, like the orbit of the sun. If you fold the circle in half, then the Spring appointed times overlay the Fall appointed times. The 10th day of Nissan then overlays the Day of Atonement. The 15th to 21st of Nissan overlays the Feast of Tabernacles. Only Pentecost does not have a matching day in the winter. Anyway - I believe that a massive asteroid will impact earth. Isaiah says the earth will be moved out of its place, and real to and fro. Only 23.5 degrees of tilt changes Spring to Fall. Soooooo I believe that BOTH Spring and Fall types will be repeated at the Second Coming. The people of God will cross the sky on Nissan 10, (like Joshua + Israel) AND it will be Day of Atonement for the lost - who are "cut off." The people of God will celebrate the Passover "new" with HIM in "My Father's kingdom" while the wicked are dieing in the last plagues back in "Egypt". It was the SAME when Christ died. Christ was offered as the Passover Lamb. AND He was offered as "the LORD's goat - He was "cut off" ON THE SAME DAY The appointed times overlap. The scenario will be repeated. [i believe the people of God will be gone from earth BEFORE the 7 last plagues are poured out. That is what FITs the type. Noah was inside the ark BEFORE the rain started, and LOT was pulled OUT of Sodom BEFORE the fireballs hit. I know that EGW thought that the plagues she was shown were the 7 last bowls, but I think she was actually seeing the trumpets, BECAUSE she wrote "These plagues are NOT universal." If you read the 7 last plagues in Rev. they ARE universal!! It's the trumpets - that are NOT universal.] I know that some of you will throw up your hands and run screaming from the room. I actually DO believe that EGW had the gift of prophecy, and received visions and messages from Christ. I also believe that she was a little woman with disabilities. The people of her era BELIEVED that Christ would return very soon (7 years) after 1844. She and others interpreted her visions in ways that the LORD had not given. Like Oct. 22nd 1844 being the start of the final Day of Atonement in Heaven. I think the LORD tried to tell them that it was NOT YET - because He gave her a vision - and showed her that Christ was still dressed in the daily garb, NOT in the clothing required for the Day of Atonement (Lev. 16:4). But they didn't "get it." We know that "all judgment is committed to the Son." That is BECAUSE He receives the dominion of earth. With dominion comes the right to decide everything within that dominion. When does HE receive that dominion?? It is at the CONSLUSION of the judgment in Daniel 7. He cannot legally judge anything UNTIL He receives the dominion, and WHEN He receives it, He immediately shares that dominion with the "saints of the Most High" AND the time has arrived for the saints to POSSESS the Kingdom. THAT just puts it at the end for me. Daniel 7 tells us what is happening on the earth WHILE this judgment is going on in heaven. The saints are being persecuted. The 4th terrible beast is ruling. The Little Horn is speaking blasphemies. I understand the pioneers need to have all those prophecies fulfilled in the past. They believed Christ would come in 1844, or within 7 years of that. They NEEDED all those prophecies to already be fulfilled. We can now look at those prophecies and realize that they also apply to our day. They are NOT just ancient history. Quote 8thdaypriest
Hair Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 I know that some of you will throw up your hands and run screaming from the room. Are you watching me on a web cam or something??!! How did you see that? Asteroid huh? Fold the circle over huh?... and you think we're far out? I think your probably a fine feller, I just like to cut-up Noah was saved THROUGH the flood, not FROM the flood. Meshack Shadrack & Adednego (I know not spelled right) were saved THROUGH the flames. Lot was out of Sodom before the plagues and Noah was in the ark before the flood, we will be shielded and separated from the plagues just as they were, just as Daniel's three friends were, but THROUGH it, not OUT of it. I guess it all depends on how you look at those stories. And do you know that you're saying that you understand EGW's visions better than she did and can interpret them more accurately? Seems to me like you've spent a lot of time on this and I don't think you're crazy or anything, pretty interesting actually, and makes me ponder some things. But I think I'm going to stick with the standard SDA interpretation. Quote
8thdaypriest Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Thanks. All we can do is to keep studying, and keep praying. While I absolutely respect the pioneers, and Mrs. White, I don't think that they were given ALL of the truth that will be know to the people of God before the end of things in this age. The first apostles absolutely BELIEVED that Christ would return in their lifetimes. They kept writing that "we see the day approaching." But THEY WERE WRONG - relatively - and Jesus did NOT correct them. It would have taken all the wind out of their sails to tell them he wouldn't be back for 2000 years. If God saw Ellen White didn't "get it," why didn't God give her a vision in which He would make sure she understood the message God had for the church? We know that God often repeated visions to Ellen White because she was unable to remember exactly what she'd seen. I think on this basis, we can be sure that if God saw she wasn't understanding a message He intended for the church, He would have made sure His messenger got it right. Moderators John317 Posted July 15, 2013 Moderators Posted July 15, 2013 .... In 1844, the Adventist pioneers used the correct method of calculating the feast days (Hillel I calendar), which used the new moon AFTER the spring equinox to determine the correct Day of Atonement for that year, as the two calendars differed that year. Therefore, the Day of Atonement was October 22, 1844, the end of the 2300 day prophecy of Daniel 8. Thanks very much for that, Jackson. I would be interested to know what your thoughts are about the OP and about the Bible study that was posted. Is the Investigative Judgment supported by the Bible? I agree that they weren't given ALL of the truth, yet the truth that God showed Ellen White was all truth. You make a good point about why Jesus didn't tell the first apostles that the Second Coming would not take place for over 2,000 years. But I think there are at least 2 things that we need to keep in mind in this regard: 1) There's a real sense in which the judgment, and the return of Christ for us, occurs at our death; and of course our death can happen at any moment. Therefore, no matter how you look at it, Christ is coming "soon" and "quickly," i.e., we don't have long to prepare and it will happen when we're not expecting it. Apparently the angels of God always speak of the end of the world as something that could happen very soon. So when Ellen White says the Second Coming is "soon," it is not evidence that she's a false prophet. Such an argument would make false prophets of a large number of the Bible writers. 2) Christ could have come shortly after 1844. He apparently could have come in the 1850s, and then again, He could have come about 1893,4. This means that the Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, etc., none of it had to happen, and none of them would have happened if Seventh-day Adventists had done what God planned for us to do. God isn't the one to blame for the long time that's passed since 1844. It's we who are to blame. It's much same as when the children of Israel failed to go into the Promised Land but had to wander in the wilderness for 40 years. God intended for them to go right across the Jordan to their news homes, but they rebelled against God's leadership and against His prophet. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Hair Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Very good comments - I agree. I think obviously God knew (he knows all) that we would prolong his coming. It all fits into the 7,000 year grid. Israel in the wilderness, it all fits, God knew and planned ahead of time that his coming would be later. Just like he had the plan of salvation prior to sin. God knows the day. When I hear this, it always gets put like God is out there waiting and hoping that we will get perfect before he is ALLOWED come, and if we fail to do what is required he'll just wait for eternity... I think there is a deadline, and God will come, and he knows when that day is. God determines the day, not man by man's behavior. Quote

You came up with at least part of what I believe the answer as to why sin has been successful, and why so many people and angels have fallen for it. To me it's because the devil is such a good liar. He is so good at making lies sound like truth that 1/3 of the angels couldn't figure out that he was lying to them about God even though they had spent their entire lives in contact with God. And when we look at our world, well, the devil's lies are accepted almost universally. Even among God's people there is still distrust of God. We just don't trust Him like a little child trusts his parents. We want to trust our own judgment. Our own ideas. Our own thinking. And all of that "thinking" is usually tainted by the devil's lies about God. The devil is so much smarter than we are, and has so spent so much time planning his every deceit that we are bound to have some kind of doubts as we have all accepted at least some of his lies about God. Thus, the need for a judgment. So we can all see just how truthful God has been about everything. Like you talked about the addict/drunk we have to know without a doubt that we will never again accept a doubt or have any mistrust of God and the actions He's taken or the judgements He's made about who is, and who isn't, in heaven and/or what has gone on here on earth. God never works through coercion, thus He's going to open the records of everything/everybody to us so that we can decide for ourselves if God is truly 100% just and fair. We need that so that we will never doubt again. God doesn't need it to decide who is good and who is bad. We need it as we are going to spend an eternity living with God, and having all the knowledge of what sin has done to everyone, and how God worked to defeat it and redeem us is what will keep sin from rising a second time. Anyway, that's the reason I see that we need the judgement process that God is going to provide for us. Guest Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 I believe that too. It's kinda hard to say "I believe she was a true prophet" and then in the next breath say "but she was too stupid to understand what God was showing her." That's a little bit like saying God was stupid for using her. As if He couldn't pick the right one, or make her understand. Quote

o2bwise Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 The sanctuary is our minds. The blood that needs sprinkling is sprinkled in our minds and is not physical. 1844 is the capstone to the old covenant where redemption is understood to be through Jesus, but the means is largely understood to be through shadow and not very image. Physical death, physical resurrection, physical blood, physical sanctuary. There is a death, resurrection, blood, and sanctuary that are very image. Jesus did not go into the "very image" Most Holy in 1844. When He does, the veil is rent. The mind of man is completely revealed, as it must be. Tony Quote Iconoclasts Anonymous Self Help

You speak of wishing to focus on "the greater light." That is wonderful. We should all want to focus on Jesus more. He is the greater light. If only He were here among us now and we could speak with Him face-to-face as the disciples were privileged to do! For now, I must content myself with focusing on Him through the "glasses" of the lesser light, namely the Bible and Ellen White. As Paul said, "now we see through a glass darkly, but then face to face." Jesus also counseled us to look for Him through the scriptures: "Search the scriptures, for in them ye think ye have eternal life, and they are they which testify of me," He said. Until the day He appears, and we have the Greater Light which rules the day, our eyes must enjoy those truths reflected from Christ to us through the prophets, the "lesser light" which rules the night. Praise God the day is coming when we will have no more night! Regarding "Aaron's holy garments," where did you find that they were white? I have looked at all of the texts I could lay eyes upon in the Old Testament to find the colors that the priests would wear, and I have yet to see any mention of "white." (I use the KJV, so perhaps you see this in another version?) When do you think the 1260 years begins? Blessings, Green Cochoa. Quote

Guest Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 If you throw out the 2300 days, which also includes the 70 weeks, and say that it somehow applies to some other time. Then you can't even prove that Jesus was the Son of God, using scripture. It is the only time prophecy that points to the exact time when Jesus would come. Without that you have now real basis for being a Christian, using scripture. I guess you can say you believe on some other basis, but the 2300 days, and the 70 weeks is the solid proof. It shows that He came right on time, according to scripture. Fulfilled prophecy is irrefutable. Quote
