Would like to hear opinions of others on the "two witnesses" of Revelation Chapt 11.

We know that a person could not be condemned to death, except on the witness of at least 2.

I have heard:

1. Old Testament and New Testament

2. the witnesses "turn water to blood" - that would be Moses

and "shut up heaven, so that no rain falls in the

days of their prophecy - that would be Elijah

The Jews were told to expect Elijah to come before Messiah, and they still set a place for him at the Passover table. When Yeshua was hanging on the cross, someone mocked Him says, "Maybe Elijah will come and save him." obviously making fun of HIS claim to be Messiah.

Malachi 4:4-6 "Remember the Law of Moses My servant ... Behold I will send you Elijah the prophet Before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD."

3. The two witness are called "the two lampstands standing before the God of the earth." Rev. 11:4

There were 7 lampstands. 5 were warned to repent "or I will come to you suddenly and will remove your candlestick from it's place." Seven minus five is TWO = the two witnesses = Smyrna (the maryters) and Philadelphia (brotherly love).

Yeshua called John the Baptist - Elijah. So maybe this could mean that the two righteous churches will BE the two witnesses in the last days.

They prophecy for 1260 days - then are killed - then 3.5 days later they hear the voice of God calling them, "Come up here." They repeat the time period of Christ's ministry, including a maryter's death and then resurrection. I wonder if the "come up here" is the resurrection and translation of the saints at the voice of God.

4. I have also heard that the LORD may actually send Elijah and Moses back to this earth to preach the last warning. Can't say that I really believe that one. But I'm open.

Anyone out there have any thoughts on this???

I understand that you all will need to share EGW writings on this, but I'm really looking for Scripture.

Thanks

The spirit of Prophesy notes that the 2 witnesses are indeed the OT and NT. Any other speculations do not fit the 1260 day prophecy. Also, anything other would violate the chasims which exists.

To presume that God would send Elijah and Moses as the 2 witnesses that would spew fire from their mouths is something straight out of science fiction.

Logically, why would God decide to send 2 prophets providing such blatant proof of His exisitence when He wants the world to love and believe in Him by faith? Although the S of P does stated that Lucifer himself would impersonate Jesus, this action still leaves room for doubt as the world has always had false Christs. Just my two cents.

Before sending the 10 plagues on Egypt, the LORD sent Moses and Aaron - 2 witnesses.

HE is about to destroy the entire earth, with billions of his own created children. I think HE will send dramatic warnings. The trumpets are warnings - that Judgment Day is approaching, just like the plagues of Egypt were warnings before the final doom.

The trumpets destroy 1/3 of things, but the 7 last vials are universal.

That's the way it reads in Revelation.

I don't know that Satan directly causes the trumpet events, but He may use them.

He may deceive people into thinking that they ARE the 7 last plagues, and then make his appearance

in a rebuilt Temple on the Mount, claiming to be Christ come.

Christ Himself comes at the 7th or "last trump."

There is a study at my website titled "Millennium." Some might find it interesting.

It does agree with the SDA position that the earth is desolate and uninhabited during the 7th millennium.

And to add to your comment:

Before the plagues and the end; God has already sent two witnesses to deliver us again: the New and Old Testament, the double edged sword out of his mouth.

Those who follow those witnesses will be saved from the plagues cast upon the Egyptians (wicked) - those who force work on us and attempt to cause our rest (Sabbath) to cease in the last days just as they did the Hebrews etc... Same typology; that's why God gave us that stuff.

The whole world is looking for a rebuilt temple. This will never happen. Christ prophesised that the temple would never be rebuilt.

I do undertand that Israel is making strides to that effect, yet there is one HUGE probelm. Putting aside issue that the Muslims currently occupy the temple mount, there are no Levite priest.

Dispensationalist have fell into a trap sprung by the Counter Reformation - This theology is indeed a product of Jesuits Fransico Ribera and Emmanuel Lacunza who attempted to thwart the efforts of the Reformers that were pointing to the the Vatican as the Antichrist by placing the Antichrist in the future.

I don't disagree with ANYTHING that you said, I just have one question... Did Christ say that "the temple would NEVER be rebuilt"? Do you get that from where he told the disciples that one stone would not be left upon another, or is there something else I'm missing, EGW or something?

I've always thought that maybe rebuilding an earthly temple would be one surefire way for the devil to suck all the people into the whole pre-tribulation rapture - 7 year mess and perhaps even appear as the messiah and deceive many. It's like a rat trap setting there waiting to happen. Then again, thousands are waiting to "get right" when they see this temple being built, so either way it works pretty good.

Funny how so many people are so against anything regarding laws from the Old Testament but are looking for an earthly temple to be rebuild before Jesus can return.

I like to say "never say never". While I believe that a new Temple MIGHT be built, I don't consider it a prerequisite for the 2nd coming. Nor do I consider the "papacy is antichrist" as the only possible scenario. IMO militant Islam fits the antichrist model much better than the papacy. Who knows? It could be a joint effort!

The Jews had a universal preconception of who Christ would be at His 1st coming; and they were wrong! If we hang on to a preconceived notion of the end-time scenario given by EGW to the exclusion of all other potential scenarios, we might be very surprised and disappointed. I ain't saying EGW is wrong; but her writings ain't scripture; and shouldn't be accounted as equivalent to scripture.

As I proposed in a previous post, just cuz the SoP says something don't make it so. SoP does not equal scripture. Why couldn't Moses and Elijah be the 2 witnesses, for example? It makes revelation a lot easier to understand if the 2 witnesses are actual people/saints than 2 collections of esoteric writings. People die and are resurrected; not books.

I have not come across any position of EGW that states that the temple will never be built. It is a logical supposition deduced from scriptures visvis the current political climate. From prophesy, we understand that the world will not form a successful confederation and if we study the occult and secret socities, its associations e.g. the UN etc, it is no secret that they are attempting to unify the world in a NWO with the Vatican at its head - an agenda which Daniel noted would never be accomplished. With such an insurmountable task such as unifying the world, why would the powers tha be want to anger over 1.6 billion Muslims if indeed the Temple is taken away and then given to the Israel?

Scripture states that the whole world will wonder after the Beast Rev 13:3. This is profound in the sense that the world, the entire world will , which includes all relgions and peoples- not just Christians. As such, there has to be a unifying force that bonds all the world to embrace one another and not one that divides. Although what this force is, we can only speculate. Yet, if we undertand that Marian doctrines are now influencing Hindus and Muslims, we can only speculate, that it will deal, in some form or another involve religions. I don't know exactly how but I strongly believe that the visions of Fatima (named after Mohameds daughter)will play some part.

An error that dispensationalist which is approxmiately 90% of the Christian world make is, that there will be a power that will persecute ALL Christians. This is not so. If we understand from the Spirit of Prophesy that apostate protestanism is the false prophet, why would the false prophet persecute its own? Revelation tells us that it will be those who keep the commandments of God and have the Testimony (prophesy) of Jesus which will be persecuted. From this, we can deduce that somehow all religions including apostate are bonded and this bond is that of spiritalism. Every religion, including Christianity are worshiping a false God. Just like Catholicism, dispensationalist are now worshiping the Holy spirit as a mediator and has indeed replaced Jesus as the sole mediator between man and God especially charasmatics- whether they know it or not.

Dispensationalist contend that they will not bow down to a future antichrist, when in fact they are already by excepting the many Roman doctrine. What they are waiting for are quite apparent doctrines which are contra to Christianity such a mandatory declaration to renounce Christ, when indeed they have done so through their destruction of God's laws and scripture - they just don't know it yet.

Lucifer doesn't care how you worship him as long as you do. Lucifer and the Vatican don't really care about people becoming Catholics, or Christian for that matter people can embrace their doctrines as long as you are a spiritalist which is the foundation of all Pagan religions. Ecumnenicalism Ecumencialism Ecumenicalism. Kathicos means the Universal church. THERE IS ROOM FOR EVERYONE!

What about "the abomination of desolation standing in the Holy Place"? That's the Mount.

I know that even EGW says that Satan himself will appear, claiming to be Christ come.

Where do you think he would appear, but on the Mount in Jerusaelm - Holy Ground.

Where does Christ say that the Temple will never be rebuilt?

I know He says it will be thrown down - but where does He say it will never be rebuilt?

The Hebrew Roots people, and the Messianics are ready to march up to the Mount to offer up animal sacrifices.

I know that EGW said that Israel would never again be a nation. - But it is.

This is a good lively discussion.

The Muslims helped Hitler in his extermination of the Jews, and the Vatican approved.

Soooooo the Vatican and Muslims have long been on good terms.

Rev. chapter 11 says "the courtyard will be given to the Gentiles." Another word for "Gentiles" is "nations."

I think the Temple Mount will be taken over by the United Nations after another Middle East War.

The whole world is tired of that conflict putting everyone on the planet at risk.

I think the UN will declare Jerusalem to be an international city, and the Temple Mount to be for all the nations. The Muslims can worship on Friday, the Jews on Sabbath, and the Christians on Sunday.

"His house will be called a house of prayer for all peoples." (Isaish)

And since the Vatican is already in control of the Holy Sites in Jerusalem and Palestine, the Pope is the logical one to oversee this "courtyard" - given to the Nations.

All it needs is another (nuclear maybe) Middle East war.

Part of the Herodian Temple remains standing to this day (the Wailing Wall); so this prophecy either refers to :

1. The destruction on the existing Wailing Wall

2. The destruction of a new Temple yet to be built

I think either one is possible. God gives us prophecy as a view from the future. He's been there. I like to keep my mind open to all reasonable possibilities for prophetic fulfillment. Whether it's EGW or 8thdaypriest, if their interpretations are reasonable, I will file them in my memory as possible events to look for.

@8thdaypriest...about trumpets

Solemn events before us are yet to transpire. Trumpet after trumpet is to be sounded, vial after vial poured out one after another upon the inhabitants of the earth. 3SM 426 (1890). {LDE 238.1}

Great balls of fire were falling upon houses, and from these balls fiery arrows were flying in every direction. It was impossible to check the fires that were kindled, and many places were being destroyed. The terror of the people was indescribable Ev 29 (1906). {LDE 24.3}

I saw an immense ball of fire fall among some beautiful mansions, causing their instant destruction. I heard someone say: "We knew that the judgments of God were coming upon the earth, but we did not know that they would come so soon." Others, with agonized voices, said: "You knew! Why then did you not tell us? We did not know."--9T 28 (1909)

One effort more, and then Satan's last device is employed. He hears the unceasing cry for Christ to come, for Christ to deliver them. This last strategy is to personate Christ, and make them think their prayers are answered.--Ms 16, 1884. {LDE 165.1}

Satan claims to have changed the Sabbath to Sunday,and commands all to hallow the day which he has blessed…GC 624 (1911).He declares that those who persist in keeping holy the seventh day are blaspheming his name. 4SP 441, 442,{GC88 624.1}

The temple being rebuilt was addressed by Daniel in the book of Daniel when there was NO temple. Later, AFTER Daniel's vision, a temple WAS built just as predicted. The Temple that was rebuilt, the one Daniel was referring to, was rebuilt and existed in Jesus' day (Herod's temple). If there were another earthly temple to come, then surely Daniel would have mentioned two temples. In order to believe that an earthly temple must be rebuilt again is to completely ignore the facts of prophecy that have already been fulfilled.

The courtyard given over to the Gentiles is the earth. The earth was given over to them for 1260 days (538-1798). The courtyard of the true Heavenly temple is the earth, the lambs were slain in the courtyard, Jesus was slain on the earth, the earth is the courtyard.

The real altar is in Heaven where the real High Priest is and the real mercy seat is and the real angels are etc. That's the whole purpose in having a temple - to be a teaching tool, a school master so we could understand, it had no REAL significance other than teaching. The blood of animals can not really forgive sin (Hebrews).

On the Day of Atonement when the work was done the earthy high priest came out of the holy place and all Israel rejoiced because they were cleansed. Jesus (High Priest) is in temple (Heaven) now, one day he will return and the world will be cleansed. The complete vision in Daniel was to last 2300 days and then the temple would be cleansed. The temple was decreed to be rebuilt in 457BC. Adding 2300 days to that we come to 1844. So we believe that 1844 was the beginning of the cleansing (the beginning of the real Day of Atonement).

He would not leave the REAL temple, REAL altar, REAL mercy seat, etc. and come to, or in anyway have use for a feeble man made earthly temple at that point.

Somewhere in this I saw something about some messianic Jews and "I think" I read that they believe nothing has been done away with. That is incorrect, while there are a few different variations of them, they basically believe that ONLY the sacrificial parts of the ceremonial law have been fulfilled and therefore we must keep everything EXCEPT the actual sacrificing of animals.

We SDA's (the majority anyway) believe that these feasts were for the PURPOSE of the sacrifice, not the opposite, and so because the sacrifice has been fulfilled there is no need to have a celebration for the purpose of sacrificing. No sacrifice = no feast occasion.

Ceremonial laws were nailed to the cross, but sin is still sin: transgression of God's law I John 3:4. God's law is eternal just as he is eternal.

I'm going to stop here before I ramble on forever :)

By the way... thanks textus

JoeMo,

I'm curious how you think that a person whose mind is at enmity with the law by it's own nature, and is based in selfishness, can, of it's own volition, obey a law based in a love that is the antithesis of selfishness.

Anyway, that's how I read your post as you say God offered this as a way to heaven.

I would be extremely careful in dividing the two concepts. Most of the world has divided faith and works for reasons that clearly are not biblical. When we study scripture, we understand that what the world calls works is really out of obedience - obedience and works are not synonymous.

Some churches, especially Charismatics have put aside the Decalogue, and have replaced it solely with the concept of ‘Love’. In doing so, they have single handedly destroying the concept of Justice. They justify this apostasy by taking 2 scriptures to the extreme - Col 2:14 (nailing the ordinances to the cross) and Jn 13:34-35 believing that Jesus provided the world a new commandant (to love one another as I have loved you) which renders all others moot.

Yet, they never seem to ask the important question: if we rid ourselves of the law, what criteria will God use to judge? If the answer is that salvation is a result of believing in Christ alone, then what they are truly suggesting is that salvation is a process of works of ‘Love’. This belief, however, creates a paradox, which no amount of creative theology can rectify. Jesus stated in Jn 14:15 that "if you love me keep my commandments. Jesus understood that one cannot truly love Him or the Father without obedience to His father’s will.

We know from scripture that the definition of Love is God, 1 Jn 4:8, and that Jesus was speaking of the 10 commandments Matt 5:18. In effect, if the law is destroyed, then equally, our love for God is also destroyed. From scripture, we can understand that our love for God is intrinsically intertwined with keeping the Law. Then, if we truly love God, to be obedient is not work, but a privilege. The book of Isaiah also sheds some insight in Is 58:13. In this respect, churches which only tout the love of Christ, may indeed love Christ, yet they do not understand His love in totality as a consequence of disregarding the law. For it is the Decalogue which reveals God’s character, mercy and love. Furthermore, those who attempt to separate the two are indeed falling into a Luciferian trap.

Many of these churches have minimized Jesus to the point where He is only a catalyst for the Holy Spirit. They have relegated Jesus to the background rather than the foreground. You hear terms such as being a “spirit filled” church, or a church that is baptized in the Holy Spirit and anything contra is a “dead church”. Yet, what these terms actually reveal is that they have removed the centrality of Christ – something that a Christian church should never do. It can be said, that these churches are not being led by Christ but an imposter disguised as the Holy Spirit. But which spirit, and to what purpose?

Perhaps Eliphas Levi provides some answers:

"The Mysteries Of Magic pg 428 by Eliphas Levi Premier Occultist of the 19th Century. Albert Pike used many of Levi’s writings in compiling Morals and Dogma which is given to 33 Degree Freemasons.

"What is more absurd and more impious than to attribute the name of Lucifer to the devil, that is, to personified evil. The intellectual Lucifer is the spirit of intelligence and love; it is the paraclete, it is the Holy Spirit, while the physical Lucifer is the great agent of universal magnetism."

This is a quite revealing statement by Levi. Levi clearly states that spiritual Lucifer is love vis-à-vis intellect. Yet from scripture we understand that the definition of God is love, and it is through God that we understand love. Yet, Levi in stating that the intellectual Lucifer is love, in essence is really claiming that our intellect has provided humanity the right to self-determination – in other words the right to decide what is good, a gift directly instituted by Lucifer. This of course is contra to what we find in scripture. Scripture points the fact that the law is good and still quite valid as we read in Romans 7:14-25. Moreover, Jesus previously had alluded to the fact that when we speak of goodness, we speak of the Father through the Decalogue. It is the Father and through the Decalogue which is good.

“So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Do not defraud,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’” And he answered and said to Him, “Teacher, all these things I have kept from my youth.” Mark 10:18 -22.

It is man’s intellect which has destroyed the law through suppositions and the fanciful idea that the law is no longer bearing for those who love Christ. So again, whose holy spirit is leading these churches? As Eliphas Levi has clearly stated, The intellectual Lucifer is the spirit of intelligence and love; it is the paraclete, it is the Holy Spirit...” A 'spirit filled', loving church which has abandoned the law.

If you have never searched through the materials published by The Third Temple Institute, you have a real treat coming. The TTI has reconstructed every article and fabric for the Third Temple, except the ARK. They are READY the moment the Mount falls into Israli hands again.

In a very recent poll, 30% of current Jewish citizens of Israel said they would favor rebuilding the Temple.

I personally believe a Mideast war will destroy the Dome on the Mount. The world will hold it's breath --- Is this WWIII???

That is when the international community - the UN - will internationalize the Old City of Jerusalem. You do realize that Jerusalem "sits on 7 hills," that the LORD called Jerusalem a "harlot."

I believe the Temple WILL be rebuilt. I believe the animal sacrifices will be restarted. AntiChrist will "take away the daily sacrifice."

I believe SATAN will make his appearance in THAT Temple. One of the world's largest earthquake faults runs right through the Temple Mount. (It could be an earthquake that brings down the Dome. The Muslims will accuse the Jews - bring the world to the brink of war.)

Anyway - I believe Jeremiah hid the ARK in one of the caves which honeycomb the Mount. He couldn't exactly sneak it out of town. The LAW said you have to sound a trumpet in front of the ARK to warn the people to get back. The ARK will be "discovered" and brought into the rebuilt Temple.

I believe that Satan may put his hand on the ARK, and then say - see - I am not killed - because I'm the one who gave these commands. So I have the right to change one of them. And I'm commanding now that all men honor Sunday, in honor of me.

When Satan puts his hand on the ARK, THAT IS THE MOMENT when he will step over the line. That is the moment - just like Belshazar using the articles from the Temple for his own aggrandizement, when the LORD will declare "Thou art weighed in the balances."

I AM saying that many prophecies are dual. We site prophecies of the destruction by the Babylonians, or Assyrians, and quote them as applying to the destruction at the Second Coming. Mrs. White did this quite often. These were dual prophecies!!

The Hebrew Roots people dismiss these, and say they are ancient history, and pointed only to the destruction by the Babylonians, etc. They just don't see that they apply to the complete destruction of the whole earth at "The Day of the LORD."

You might enjoy a study at my website titled "Millennium." It goes over the 7 trumpets, and 7 plagues.

DNA analysis now allows for identification of males descended from the Cohen.

The problem with dispensationalist is that in order to justify their brand of prophesy, particular chasms must be violated. For instance, Jerusalem may indeed sit on 7 hills, however, this is not the end of the prophecy.

The prophesy also states that it must be a ecclesiastical and governmental authority that: 1. Persecutes the saints, must have global authority, thinks to change times and laws. The Vatican is the only power in the world that fits these criteria. You cannot disregard any part of the prophecy in order to make it ‘fit’. It must be taken as a whole. When we take into consideration the other parts of the prophecy, the Nation of Israel falls tremendously short for fulfilling the prophesy.

One egregious and tragic error that dispensationalist make is attributing one of the most beautiful prophesies of the bible to the antichrist. Daniel 9:27 is not speaking of the Antichrist, but that Jesus sacrifice will put an end to the ‘daily’.

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 2 Peter 1:20
