Members phkrause Posted August 15, 2013 Members Posted August 15, 2013 I watched television from the time I can first remember. My intellect did not suffer because of it. I was also a voracious reader of books. You don't need to disavow one activity in favor of the other. You certainly can do both. And as far as the brain "shutting down" while watching television, yes - parts of it do get "numbed" .... but the same thing happens during sex, while exercising, when you eat, when you sleep... Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Members phkrause Posted August 15, 2013 Members Posted August 15, 2013 Not only that, but if I recall, radio was also taboo at one time just like TV. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted August 16, 2013 Administrators Posted August 16, 2013 It really is sad that there has been such a tendency to condemn the medium rather than the message, and to create absolutist rules that put one so far from the venue of possible sin rather than equipping the saints with real discernment to be able to critically evaluate and distinguish things of value from things not. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)

LifeHiscost Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Quote: but the same thing happens during sex, I find no biblical ideas suitable to answer the spiritual mind, without seeming to have joined league with the prince of darkness. May I suggest it was one of the most beautiful gifts given to man and woman for each other, making it the most severely attacked by the enemy of souls. That could be one reason why that specific gift will not continue in the Kingdom. " Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. " 1 Corinthians 10:31 NKJV God cares! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
